Can’t believe we have manager that has an actual song with his name in it and there’s pages of suggestions for other songs to sing 😀 there has to be a variation on that.
‘Nathan Jones ... you’ve been gone too long’
Actually kinda works in itself.
Could do ‘Nathan Jones ... making city strong ... so good he’s got his own song
Yea, it’s tough init

Evening both,
Do you believe that Moyes (should he get the job) be able to get us to the playoffs with the current squad or does he NEED more players in?
If the only way to fund more signings in Jan was to sell Jack Butland would you sell or hold out till summer ?

Earlier on in the season I heard many people stating that we should have gone after top Championship players. Yesterday on radio stoke I heard many people state that we should have bought more premiership players if that where we want to get back to.
What’s the answer?? Or better question, would you take us adding 1 more player to the squad with prem quality or sell Butland and Allen for around £50 million and buy 3/4 top championship players ??

I go down with a group of 10 lads and decided not to get a ST this year on the basis that there is always the odd spare ticket available plus got new born baby and wanted to see how things panned out.
There have been tickets free every game this season, some of them literally cba going ( these are guys that have had STs for 15 + years ). Not asked how many will be renewing, but this might be the year that a few of them give it a miss. TBF a long way to travel for us as well but still, very depressing times

Not a fan of Rowett at all, but I still am not sure that he is 100% of the issue. We have no consistency up front, very little creativity in the midfield and an up and down defense. Not sure Pep or Klopp could get the current batch of players looking good. It's still very clear that the changes need to be made higher up in the recruitment and board level. ‘Not sure that he is 100% the issue’ ‘We have no consistency up front’ - due to his formations/tactics/line ups ‘very little creativity in the midfield‘ - he signed 5 new midfielders

This has happened a few times this season, players gesturing to the supporters... have never seen it as much as this...also sly digs from the manager in post match interviews... yesterday’s was ‘ no matter what substitute I make I get criticised, so I may as well not make one’...
Disconnect between players and fans at an all time high, not what is needed for a promotion push !
We have some idiot fans, but they pay their money and they can express their frustrations at the games, players and manager need to be a bit more bloody professional, show some more effort and desire ( or at least more than 2 shots on targets against bottom of the league) and the crowd will get behind them.

Lively start, full house and both sides look like they'll be there or thereabouts at the season end. Grealish proving you need that bit of creativity in this league. Got to admire Dean Smith, did great work at Brentford and now doing well with Villa... gets his players forward in numbers and shoot on sight (hence there goal, OG from long range effort). Will conceed goals but always fancy them to score more ... Quick summary of villas first month under Dean Smith: - Wins: 4 - Draws: 1 - Losses: 0 - Goals scored: 17 - Goals conceded: 7 - 4 players in Championship Team of the Month - Tammy Abraham nominated for Player of the Month - Dean Smith nominated for Manager of the Month.

The news actually makes me feel sad, not that I have any sympathy for Hughes, it just emphasises to me how badly our club is being run. Southampton have acted decisively, timely, and it would not surprise me if they make an appointment no one was expecting. Hughes will have a break and then get a nice little earner in the new year to save someone else from relegation. He saved QPR and Southampton and he will always argue they and Stoke would not have got relegated had he stayed in charge as he can prove he saved two of them. The irony is he was get more points per game than Lambert achieved with us last season, and whilst we still might have suffered some more 3 and 4 goal drubbings earlier this year, he might have also won the extra 2 games (Watford, Burnley, Palace?) and avoided relegation. Hughes record at Stoke will go down in history as one of the all-time best managers at Stoke (I'm aware the young generation are not interested in history) after Waddington, Pulis, McGrory, & Durban. I never thought I would ever see players like Bojan, Shaqiri and Arni at Stoke, which i believe is down to Hughes Sorry chap I can't let that one go unchallenged. Hughes was NOT one of our all time best managers. He won us neither promotion nor silverware. Yes there was a period of attractive football but there was also a period of relentless thwackings against pretty much anyone in the top 6. Hughes came into the club at the time that it was receiving the most generous funding in it's entire history and attached a few sparkling baubles to a solidly grown Christmas Tree. When that tree started to rot knew nothing about how to fix it. A great manager can put together more than one squad (as amongst your "greats" Pulis did for survival, promotion, and survival a division up, and Waddington did for the 60's and again for the 70's). Hughes hasn't got a clue how to do that as he's shown at more places than Stoke. Spot on

www.stokecityfc.com/news/rowett-laments-referees-decisionRowett clearly not prepared to admit Reading had numerous chances to equalize. I said to my better half that we would sit back and let them attack us when we went into the lead. She said "They always do don't they?" I said repeatedly in the last quarter of on hour, "We are on a knife edge here", as Reading had free kicks, corners, and near misses. The equalizer was what we all feared and and many expected. Lambert rolls into town next week, so that's going to be end to end stuff!!! I expect we will win and lots of people will think we have turned another corner. You really couldn't make it up, and there are still posters saying he should stay in post. Presumably the same posters who said "Wait till the proper games start" in pre-season, and "Wait till 10 matches" during the opening games, and "Wait till January, we are only a few points off the play-off positions" after a quarter of the season. Even tonight they are still defending him and we are 17 points off a play-off place. I resolutely defended Hughes and I was never critical of Lambert; those men had records of achievement, albeit mixed. Rowett has achieved nothing and I'm quite sure he never will. The crying shame is, we actually have a very talented squad of players. I was very complimentary on here of Wednesday's victory, a much improved performance, but, as I secretly feared, it raised false hopes, just as the wins over Watford, Swansea, and West Brom did last season. There is no way now we could persuade a manager to leave another club to sort us out. The Board have to go for one of the current out of work managers, if they will accept. Again there are people on here slagging them off, just as they laughed at Roy Hodgson's appointment at Palace last season. We need a manager who has shown he can get a team promoted and the presence and character to impose himself on our seasoned internationals. If the Board stick with this man, I fully expect us to lose most of our best player, those that remain will be even older, and next season we will be relegated. This season has all the omens of Hughes penultimate season that I was not bright enough to see, but others on Oatcake were. Spot on

The negativity on this board is unbelievable Yes I’m really pissed off that we conceded in the last minute and yes Rowett tried to shut up shop(just like Pulis every week) but did he miss the chances created 1st half.We should have been out of sight and now and again good players have to take some blame also. Keep the faith because it will turn But the manager was in a position to make positive subsitutions with the knowledge that Afobe missed chances in the first half...you cannot look at a game of football with a 'what if' mentality. Its also fair to say that we haven't had a lot of luck this season, but that bad luck didn't affect Rowetts negative subs in the second half

The pathetic thing is, I'm just a fan watching the game with my old man on a stream and we are both saying the same thing...bring on fresh legs up top to stretch them, don't go defensive (as if we can rely on our defence!). Don't allow Reading to finish the game strong by throwing balls forward...best form of defence is attack, especially us...our attacking has been one of the few positives this season !!
Sad that we can all see it but not the manager.
Not even going to begin on the dropping of Bera and Williams

So high that they managed to finish higher than the great man himself ever could. Why couldn’t he do that himself? The team matured through the strength of continuity and the blossoming of one youth/reserve keeper who became England's nearly number one, supported by signing players that no other manager had even considered, such as Bojan, Arnie, Assaidi, and others. So both managers had worthy input but the players gelled in a way that would have happened anyway if Denise herself had managed the team, as long as the socalled dna wasnt interfered with. Once it was, we were always going to suffer, and we did. This. Nobody can deny Hughes made some brilliant additions early on that Pulis would have never taken a gamble on.. Ireland, Arnautovic, Muniesa etc.. blended with the Pulis signings of Whelan, Walters, Butland, Shawcross, Nzonzi, Adam etc ... that’s what brought about early success. When the Pulis signings were sold or got to old they were never replaced adequately, and then Hughes started selling or dropping his own stars like Muni , Bojan, Arnie etc He truly lost the plot, just look at saints currently for evidence. P.S Rowett wank also 😀

Nope, joke of a competition. We can't lose, they have everything to lose. When the likes of Gareth Barry, Sam Clucas, Fat Charlie etc get given a game it makes the whole thing a mockery. Great days versus Stockport and Bristol City. The competition now deserves a Swansea under 21v Norwich Under 21 in front of 2'138 at Wembley. just popped on onevalefan and there is a post on there where its saying the same thing..you post on there or are you a vale fan.. Gareth Barry?

This is certainly true when going forward. When a defender has the ball they look to play it into Allen/Woods feet who are constantly getting closed down and end up passing straight back to the defence. Sometimes Woods drops almost into the back line, turns and finds a pass, fair play to him, but we can’t do this every attack.
As the defenders carry the ball forward, we need a player to drop for a short pass and the other 2/3 players move in between the lines for a ball played through... too many players hiding and not wanting the ball!
Major lack of team work & low confidence

Yep. Movement and speed of play, big problem at the moment.
Too many players jogging around - as soon as we inject a bit of pace and clever movement something happens, that was evident when we had our 10 minutes after first goal on satdee ... unfortunately, 10 minutes was all we had.

Enjoyed that half ! Not said that in a long time.
Ince, Etebo and McClean look decent, Jack a couple of great saves.
Shawcross looks fit and more agile.
Also nice to see bit of passion and fight when towards the end of the half. Shawcross, McClean and Bauer all getting involved.

It was said then by the commentators that the foul began outside the box but the player was still fouling Salah inside the box - so a penalty.
Is that right, I would have thought it’s where the offence initially took place??

Bet365 are offering 4/5 (1.8 decimal) for Shaqiri to have a "shot on target" during the game - so £18 back from a £10 stake. I'm pretty certain he still takes their free kicks so that should be a pretty solid chance shouldn't it? What a waste of money that was 😀

100%. The fact we conceded so many with the group of defenders we had last season is the perfect showing of Hughes' stupidity and lack of tactical nous. The lack of a settled back four didn't help.... Shawcross, Bauer, Indi, Pieters, Wimmer, Zouma, Edwards, Johnson, Stafylidis, Cameron.... Were all playing in the back four/five at some point, for much of the season!!! Wasn't until the last couple of months that we got a settled back four of... Shawcross, Indi and Pieters (with just the acception of the right-back position, of either: Bauer, Johnson or Zouma) that we started to look somewhat tighter!!! Add Diouf as well to those playing in the back 4/5 last season... as you say, looked much better when we had a settled defence towards the end of the season.

Just watching the Serbia game at the moment and realised that Mitrovic is still contracted to Newcastle, albeit probably off to Fulham this summer. Then if there’s something in Gayle to us, would Newcastle be willing to let go 2 strikers, perhaps 3 if Joselu leaves ( don’t think he did that well there last season ) - Are they getting linked to other strikers ??

If you carry on like this mate, you're going to need a JCB pretty soon ... With this sort of thing, you’re best just making a statement like “It’s all got a bit too rich for them.” then running off. Trying to justify it with too many words just leaves you in the ‘needing a JCB’ position. Quit while you’re behind would be my advice to stokie23. 😎 Haha fair enough....I agree...got to love the oatcake...only here can you begin a thread with 'Lets get one thing right, I'm not suggesting that the owners wanted us to get relegated' and then be bombarded with comments stating how stupid I am suggesting the owners wanted us to get relegated - Ill get me coat, I'm fuckin off up the vale.

Mate you are completely missing the point, and ignoring the fact I proceeded everything I said with 'Lets get one thing right, I'm not suggesting that the owners wanted us to get relegated' ! There is no conspiracy of planned failure - Im saying its more than plausible that he weight up spending another 30m in January and almost guaranteeing staying up or spending a very respectable amount of money, as he did, and giving it a good go - knowing if relegation came from it we could still be in a strong position with an opportunity to even make more money. Premier league isn't everything, financially stability of the club he loves is very important too !!! On the recent savvy business we have done, I can't wait for next season ! Generally, when you use the word “but” it negates anything preceding it. The thrust of your post was that the owners were to some extent, okay with relegation. I dismiss that and (not that I know him) I feel insulted on behalf of Peter Coates. Sorry you feel that way, and that you believe me saying 'but' negates anything that proceeds it.... I really like vanilla ice cream but I love mint choc chip....doesn't mean I don't like vanilla Joking aside though, I suppose I'm saying, there not okay with relegation, but they certainly didn't see it as the end of the world. As its not. They had a contingency plan and so far that plan is looking good - if we can bounce back at the first time of asking (big IF) ... I believe there is a potential to make more profit than in a standard premier league season.
