Enough to stay up comfortably - not enough to make the play offs

I can't see Clarke going straight into the starting XI, I expect he will replace Ince as the option on the bench but hope he can be fairly quickly challenging for a starting spot. Agreed. Too much disruption to the 11 wouldn’t be good for morale either. Also, unlike Matondo, this lad will have had 1/2 sessions with us before the game on Saturday. The left back is different in this as we are desperate for one and have no alternative. Reckon our front three need a shake up - young and hungry players or Vokes 🤔. Not sure changing our attackers is such a bad thing

Nananaanananana The purists such as Bayern will hate it. I really dont care if we have to win ugly, its way better than supporting a Mowbray team - play nice and lose. Great defence performance after nicking the early goal. Take a bow lads Will happily take that Wednesday night - anyone else?

He's currently got the shirt, so far me it's his to lose. After the first couple of games his confidence and the back four's confidence in him seem to grown. He looks to have a very good command of his box, quick off his line. Hope he keeps it up - can only see him improving. Kudos to MON for sticking with him. Could have easily put an experienced keeper in after conceding 6 in two game

Was always going to be tough when you are missing a player who has had a hand in 50% of our goals and gives the opposition a lot to think about. Not excusing the terrible performance, just taking to adjust I guess.

The injuries have forced us to play a lot of younger players and they are all stepping up. Not always perfect, but the experience will be invaluable. Given where we've been the last two seasons did anyone really expect a promotion push? In and around the play offs maybe. If it's not going to be our year this season (it may still workout to be) imagine the squad strength with a full season of competitive championship footie for the likes of Souttar, Collins, Tymon, Verlindan, Cousins, Campbell, Bursik, Tashan et al. For the first time in awhile the future is looking brighter

Yes, and Stoke is in Manchester. BM Ah the good old holiday explainer ‘Where are you from?’ ‘Stoke-on-Trent’ ‘Where?’ ‘Stoke, you know Stoke City?’ ‘........’ ‘Near Manchester mate’ ‘Yes! Manchester! Manchester United fan? I love Manchester United’ At least once. Every. Single. Holiday. I tend to go for near Alton Towers - that usually works

21 points obviously, but based on O'Neil's record should be 12. 15 would be a decent rerurn

Mad wages in the Championship, and we also could do without all of them right now (sorry Ryan!)! Kevin Wimmer 27 CB 37,500 2022 Ryan Shawcross 33 CB 50,000 2021 Moritz Bauer 28 RB 20,000 2023 Tom Ince 28 RW 32,500 2022 Sam Vokes 31 CF 30,000 2022 Lee Gregory 32 CF 17,500 2021 Benik Afobe 27 CF 27,000 2022 Badou Ndiaye 30 CM 25,000 2022 Oghenekaro Etebo 25 CM 30,000 2023 Bruno Martins Indi 28 CB 42,500 2022 Important players for us, but still on very high wages! John Mikel Obi 33 DM 32,500 2021 Sam Clucas 30 CM 35,000 2022 Joe Allen 30 CM 57,500 2022 Angus Gunn 24 GK 24,000 2021 Doubt we are paying any of Afobe, Etebo, Ndiaye or Bruno's wages which makes it more frustrating we couldn't shift Wimmer and Bauer

Now we’re discussing whether the M1 - M6 or M1 - A50 is quicker home on commentary. M1 - A50 is 26 miles longer than going M1-M6 Maybe, but it does mean you avoid the M6. Always my chosen route from London. 😂😂

Let's look at facts: Since MON arrived last season we were the 8th best team in terms of points. We were the =3rd best team in terms of goals scored, but we were very poor defensively and conceded lots of goals. We needed a LB (done), we needed a defensive MF (done), we needed some pace (one in). We need more, but we have a huge roster of players and have to off-load; partly done, but long way to go. MON is operating with his hands tied by the loads of signings by the previous 2 managers. We have to be patient while he turns things round; he has done extremely well so far. The Championship usually has one or two outstanding sides that compete for the top slots. Then there are usually a dozen or more sides competing for the play offs. We are not in for a relegation battle. We will be in for a shout at getting in the top 6, but it is far from a given and a long, long way to go. Yesterday's loss will be a wake up call for everyone. As for getting beaten, I lost count many, many years ago of the number of times I have gone to a match full of optimism, only to slope off home dejected; I'm a Stoke fan. Superb post - top 10 going into second half of the season with a play off push is very doable

Bold, but I really think next year will be Campbell's year. I think he'll get at least 15 possibly more depending on how he's utilised Not that bold - his 9 goals have come every 180 mins. Given we've not had a settled side and played with an awful lot of pressure all season that's a good return. Over a full season should be in the 15 to 20 goal bracket

I reckon he’ll sign Chester on a free and he’ll turn him and Batth into a good pairing. Chester seems to play much better as the right centre back and his strength is tackling players who are running at us. Calm and useful on the ball too. He’s not great in the air but if we’ve got Batth and full backs who are over 6ft we should be okay. Smith is playing much better lately. He’ll continue to improve defensively and he’s useful going forwards. OUT: Butland, Ward, Diouf, Lindsay, N’Diaye, Etebo, Woods, BMI, Federici, Wimmer, Bauer IN: Left back, back up GK, midfielder Davies Smith Chester Batth New LB Allen Clucas Powell Campbell Vokes McClean/Verlinden Subs: New GK, Collins, Souttar, Cousins, Ince, Gregory, Afobe Afobe ahead of Vokes for me, but you may not be far wrong

God,it feels so nice to know that we're safe. Busy month or two ahead though, in a somewhat unusual transfer landscape. Here's what I think we need to do squad-wise. GK Jack Butland has to go, to anyone daft enough to pay money for him, or even take the useless clown off our hands. We should try to start a bidding war by sticking him up for auction, perhaps on e-bay, and see if we can get more than about 25p for him. Hopefully, some daft Premier League club will bid for him based on his name and England caps. Have a little respect for someone who actually saved our skin on many, many occasions, even if not of late. He will probably go and rediscover his form with another club. I hope he does go and recover his form, but am not convinced he can do that with us. He's been a good keeper for us, but his confidence is shot. I think it's best all round if he moves on.

If we do stay up wouldn't it be down to us picking up more points than 3 other teams 😋 Yes, I just can't bring myself to give them any credit for that though Can see your point, just stay up is all that's needed 😋

If we do stay up, it will largely be thanks to good fortune at how the fixtures fell, eg Hull and Luton drawing on Saturday, not through our own ability. If we do stay up wouldn't it be down to us picking up more points than 3 other teams 😋

Seeing as Luton have to Hull it means that both of them cannot finish above Stoke and a draw would mean neither of them could. Huddersfield play WBA and Millwall. It will be difficult for them. If Wigan get a twelve point deduction they need to win and draw. There are other teams like Charlton who need a win and a draw. I can clearly see light at the end of the tunnel even if we do not get any more points! Yep Luton and Hull draw. Barnsley lose one game Stoke are safe on goal difference on 49 points. Beat Bristol tomorrow the above is academic as Hull, Luton and Barnsley can't catch us. 😊

If you would excuse me having a 'senior moment' - if it becomes impossible for Wigan to finish in the bottom three (ie they finish OUTSIDE the bottom three), the 12 point deduction is applied this season. What happens then if the 12 point deduction TAKES them INTO the bottom three this season? Or is it time for my medicine? Apologies for butting in but hopefully this explains it. "If in the event the Club is relegated by virtue of their final position following the conclusion of the Championship season, then the deduction will apply in League One in 2020/21. However, if the Club is not in the relegation places following the final game of season, the sanction will be then be applied to their season 2019/20 total and final league standings amended as appropriate." www.efl.com/news/2020/july/efl-statement-wigan-athletic/The rules changed a few years ago when an already relegated Leeds went into administration, took the points deduction and started the following season clean (well cleanish). There is a timing issue, if you enter administration before 3rd March, I think, the points are deducted immediately. If after league position dictates whether it's applied to the current season or next.

Leeds a Birmingham h Bristol C a Brentford h Forest a We are more than capable of losing all of those. Wigan may ultimately rescue us as we are effectively 5pts off relegation currently. And at the same time more than capable of picking up points in all them games
