Overall I think the last two games have been a massive positive for us and shown we do have the squad to challenge for promotion.
We have beaten one of the toughest sides in the league really comfortably and the only downside was we didn’t do it by more. We’ve then played what people will consider a play off contender and had the most comfortable 65 minutes I can remember in a while against them.
All of this with Cousins and Tymon in the midfield. And credit to them, they’ve done well.
We have the squad to go far in this league. We’ve been ravaged by injury and the players that have come in have been as good as the ones they replaced or offered something different to negate the loss of that player. Bar one obviously.
We have a good squad of players, we just need to believe in them and that goes for the manager too. I fully expect us to get a result at Derby even with a makeshift side. We’re good, let’s starting acting like we are.

We are perhaps 2 or 3 quality signings off being a genuine top 6 side pushing for automatic. January is massive. If we can offload some more dross and replace with quality players we can have a real push.

Sadly I don't think the dross will be going anywhere though and, yet again, that will hinder who we can bring in.

Chester has been a positive too, I had written him off based on his performances last season and wasn’t happy with us signing him, but he really has been excellent in the past two games.

I have to agree i quite enjoyed the games in respect to the midfield for a game and 60 minutes they had movement upfront and options and also controlled the games. We do have a deeper squad depth than most would have said at the start of the season and players with different talents to allow change in playing styles. The team spirit is also helping. We have a chance to challenge for a play off spot as most teams in the division at times are are suffering injuries and fatigue. This is testing squads and a positive to me is teams are having to blood their younger talent earlier than they may have been the planned but a chance to shine, further i think it may help the younger develop whilst their is a small or no crowd at all at games.

I was just fuming with Vokes and MON last night but I really do think that bigger picture wise both tell us we actually have a good squad. And definitely re team spirit, they clearly have faith in one another and the manager and it shows. They dig in when it's needed and show the signs of being a really resilient side. The injuries are crap for sure but they are and have been an opportunity. These last two games against two sides that will be in around the play offs have been so encouraging and I honestly don't think we've missed anyone.

The injuries have forced us to play a lot of younger players and they are all stepping up. Not always perfect, but the experience will be invaluable. Given where we've been the last two seasons did anyone really expect a promotion push? In and around the play offs maybe. If it's not going to be our year this season (it may still workout to be) imagine the squad strength with a full season of competitive championship footie for the likes of Souttar, Collins, Tymon, Verlindan, Cousins, Campbell, Bursik, Tashan et al. For the first time in awhile the future is looking brighter

I’m actually enjoying watching the games! And looking forward the the next. For the most part, we’ve got players who I adore, which hasn’t been said for a few years!
Tyrese is also god.

With the right subs we'd have still won it last night which is a positive in itself given who we're missing, its on the management team and players not to mess it up from here imo, we've always had the squad they've just been used appallingly in previous seasons. This season its been much better MON has finally seen how this squad should be set up and the results have followed.
My only gripe, as you mention, is his trusting them more, if they're winning and comfortablely there's no need to change it with 20/30 mins to go, maybe that'll come when he has more of his own players in, fingers crossed anyway.

I kind of understand where you're coming from but I think it has also emphasised just how much we rely on our 20 year old striker. If he's out for any prolonged period we simply haven't got an earthly chance of going up.

We controlled the first half and we were in complete control v Boro and Wycombe.
I just think Campbell going off was 1 injury too far and obviously his replacement is not up to much.
But if he had of scored that penalty we wouldn’t have lost last night.

With us still trying to massively reshape the squad it was always inevitable that any injuries would lead to us having to rely on Rowett and Jones' misfits though unfortunately.....

Must agree with the positive tone of this thread. Whatever the outcome of this season we are moving forwards. The team has structure , the defence looks generally organised , there is some creativity in the midfield and attack , the squad has depth and for the first time since Adam was a lad the young players are up to the mark. Give it a bit of time and as long as we can hold on to a few of the youngsters who will be in demand we could get where we want to be.

Positives for me have been Collins at RB. Very solid.
Brown in the centre looking much better than out wide and done a decent job filling in for Fletcher.
Cousins staking a claim to be a regular starter (would like to see him and JOM play few games together).

I had put this on another thread but I feel it belongs here, copy and pasted sorry.
If, in another 6 games, with the horrendous injuries that we have had, we are still in that top 8, it is huge progress. MON has said we will be doing business in the window, a new year push and watch us go. We have some top players at this level to come back. We have made massive strides since MON came in. When Rowett and Godbotherer were here there was no affinity between the fans and players, speaking for myself I just couldn't take to the players, the togetherness from 08-18 had gone. Now, I love this squad and their determination, there is a will to win and seeing the youngsters doing well is a huge bonus. Promotion this year is not a must, a season of competing and putting this club back together again is, roll on August when I believe the stadiums will be full again for that first game, be it in the Championship or Premier League.

Need another twelve months of rebuilding this team,no good going up this season on a wing and a prayer with this squad, all we would do is what West Brom are doing now!!

Need another twelve months of rebuilding this team,no good going up this season on a wing and a prayer with this squad, all we would do is what West Brom are doing now!! Think of the extra £ we'd get from promotion, that would certainly come in handy for a rebuild even if we were to come straight back down again, and it would mean new parachute payments too.
I agree we need more time to gel, and we need new faces, but that rebuild is going to be far easier if we go up (provided it doesn't result in MON losing his job if were to come straight back down again).

The other side of that is if we did get promoted, there would be a possibility of still losing O'Neil to a bigger club on the basis of what he has achieved here....he has mentioned himself on numerous occasions that it is still work in progress, that seems to me that this season he his happy to finish at the top end of the table, and not ready for the premier League just yet.

Don't go up and we will inevitably lose Campbell, maybe Collins and possibly Souttar. It's too risky so I'd wholeheartedly take promotion and trust we can build on what we have and use some of the money to strengthen.
