If you're classing Wycombe as London then we also won at Luton.

Was that our 1st. win in London since Moses was a lad? Good geographical knowledge. Nearly as good as someone who thought Torquay was in the Caribbean "because it sounds like it should be".

Sam asked Dave "Where did you go on your holidays?"
Dave replied "Ibeza".
Sam said "Where's that?"
"I don't know" said Dave, "We went by 'plane."

Slightly off the subject but this is honestly true. Friends of ours who live in York were taking the family to Kenya for a holiday. While waiting for the plane at Heathrow on of his daughters asked what time it was in Nairobi so he told her. her very thick boyfriend then asked him what time was it in York. typical yorkie.

BM Ah the good old holiday explainer ‘Where are you from?’ ‘Stoke-on-Trent’ ‘Where?’ ‘Stoke, you know Stoke City?’ ‘........’ ‘Near Manchester mate’ ‘Yes! Manchester! Manchester United fan? I love Manchester United’ At least once. Every. Single. Holiday.

When I ws a student I was in digs with others from Rochdale and Dudley, who used to argue.
The Rochdale one saying Stoke was in the Midlands, and the Dudley one saying Stoke was in the North.

Also, the potteries is north west not west midlands 👀 If you look at a map of England. Not the UK, just England, then Stoke-on-Trent is just about halfway between the south coast and the border with Scotland. If anything it's slightly closer to the south cost. We're definitely part of the Midlands.

I can beat that with a conversation in a fitness class on holiday between the fitness instructor and an American lady: Lady: where are you from? Instructor: Bosnia Lady: Boston, Massachusets? Instructor: Bosnia not Boston Lady: Oh where's that? Instructor: In Europe. Lady: Near Paris then?

When I was in RN an elderly lady said that her grandson was also in the navy and asked me if I knew him. I asked her if he wore a white hat......"that’s him" she replied. Think we’re getting a bit off subject here

Off on a tangent here, but I sometimes go to watch Plymouth Argyle as it`s local to me and I think their fans are the thickest in any league. I`ve heard them chant " Cockney Wankers" at Portsmouth, " Dirty northern bastards" at Bristol City and Exeter and even a " Jock twat" at Carlisle without a trace of humour or irony.

Mate of mine went to Texas (Houston I think) and was asked how come his English was so good "Because I'm from England" Than asked how he got there (i.e. to the USA) "did you drive across?".

Some years ago whilst in Tenerife I bumped into a lad wearing the Red and White stripes. After a bit of a discussion about our teams performances I explained that I used to live in 'castle but had moved to Scotland many years ago. "Where's that then?" was his reply. And he wasn't taking the piss!

We're definitely part of the Midlands. Hmmm. I'm not so sure. I don't think anybody would say that Crewe was in the Midlands but it's actually further south than some parts of Staffordshire such as Biddulph and those parts and just about level with Kidsgrove. Linguistically I've always thought the Potteries dialect has more in common with those from the North - phrases like "HEYUP" being quite regularly used by Stokies. Myself I've always thought that the Midlands started, in this area, somewhere between Stone and Stafford

In my student days I worked nights for a call centre operating Yellow Pages type business telephone directories. If a caller wanted information and contact details for advertised customers you would do an appropriate search and point them towards relevant businesses in their area, and if, as often happened on night calls, especially for things like Fast Food outlets and Pizza delivery, no one was available locally you extended your search outwards to cover a bigger area, as long as you could continue to promote listed advertisers.
I remember one girl who was asked for a link to Taxi Services in Southampton, but they were all busy and couldn't take calls. So the poor lass did an ever expanding search, and eventually as she couldn't promote a business in Southampton she triumphantly gave out a listing in Northampton instead, believing the two must be close.
I also heard of a motorist whose vehicle had broken down, and gave his location as being near Leeds Castle, which is in Kent. Sure enough the guy ended up being given contact information for Garage Services in Leeds, Yorks!
