Didn't look like 63% Barnsley to our 37% to me but the result what matters

Always found that goals win games not possession

from what i watched, we had the ball most of the time, i don't know where they seem to get these numbers?
anyway, main stats > we won & 3 points

Always found that goals win games not possession Exactly. I dont care if the opposition has 99% of the ball as long as what we do with the ball is effective particularly in a fight for survival

I'm not saying Barnsley were anything like the Arsenal of a few years back but they did seem to play it along the back four quite a bit.

Must admit, I was bemused by the stats. However, that's what wins elections I suppose.

It didn't seem like they had that much possession but then again in that Reading game we hammered them on all the stats but during the game it felt the other way round.

We’ve won quite a few games with less possession

Almost irrelevant
Haven’t we often had the majority of possession while getting pasted

You can play the ball sideways and bacwards numerous times and that stat will look OK, but I tend to look at chances created and goals.

Luton had 62% possession and 1 shot on target against Reading & lost 5 nil.
As said many times, the only stat that counts is the goals scored.

The ‘Stats’ look a bit odd. This game I see we had 4 shots, 4 on target, and of course four goals. I recall the Powell shot in the 2nd Half which was tipped around the post. I’m guessing there were other shots, on target or otherwise.

Well we usually have the bulk of the possession when we get smashed. Could this be a shift In thinking from O’Neill? Hopefully it was as I think a lower possession often converts into more direct play which is what we all want isnt it? Couldn’t be happier with the result and performance. For me we looked so much more attacking and direct, who cares about possession stats🤷🏻♂️

There looked like a specific game plan to cut out the ball from keeper to back four then along the back four and back to keeper etc. Don't think we did it once. I think moving forward we will mix and match more, but until we are safe we will play this no nonsense style.

Remember once, for a while , teddy sherringham had the worst pass completion stats in the entire league , despite being good enough to play for man utd and England
It was his Job to play the killer ball , which he was trying to do five or six times a game ( and actually succeeding in doing maybe twice a game )
Basically , the guy could be brilliant and have 50 per cent pass completion at the same time
You just had to ignore the stat and say , well he is obviously a good player

Most of the possession was at kick offs

It didn’t feel like we didn’t have the ball for that amount of time to me at all. Usually it does. I didn’t get the feeling we had loads of possession but I’m genuinely shocked we had so little.

The possession stats are usually just the number of completed passes as a ratio.

It matters more in the Premier League because players have the quality to unlock defences and score from range, they are good enough to keep the ball well and eventually get it into dangerous positions.
In the championship I don't think that's the case however, possession means fuck all because there's nowhere near as much quality in the sides.
