The inability to score has been our biggest failing this year. We have played well and created chances dominated games and then lost to a breakaway goal. Next season will stand or fall on the signing of a quality striker. One that can hold it, head it and stuff it in the net consistently

His biggest problems are he's lazy without the ball he cannot hold it up and poor in the air. He doesn't press like an Ennis or Jacob Brown but he has still got a bit of pace and an eye for a goal when the balls played in front of him. Would keep him to use as a sub later in games where there is space to run in behind. He's not a main striker and we till desperately need one.

VAR is just an attempt to bring some objectivity and certainty to marginal calls. Should be time limited to 30 seconds Objectivity and Certainty? By what measure, whos doing the measuring? The very people that crave an all Manchester Final. Yeah right!

I like to see two players on the post when defending a set piece. Not only can they clear it off the post they are in a great position to clear any second balls. Also I would leave my quickest player on the center line.

Up to half time the game was relatively even & Million was totally ineffective with the full back beating him for pace, million losing the ball every time it was played to him. Then out of th3 blue Hoever scores on 45 minutes - goals do change games, we were then all over them andMillion has a shot - only positive thing he did all half - and scores - good goal took goalie by surprise really. Second half he was better bu5 still play broke down when it was played to him, because he is really too lightweight and gets knocked off the ball like a 15 year old novice. Needs to learn to protect the ball and drawing a foul when muscled out, which is how the clever slightly built good players manage the game. Thompson, Cundle, Juno top players and defence looked solid, Laurent contributed well and of course Burger class when he came on. Well done Schumacher getting to know his best team and how to set up. Yes we’re safe now. What game were you at? We were all over them hit the bar and post first half. I thought Million was excellent

No over reaction at all it was an appalling performance driven by an appalling selection and planning and thinking from the latest all fur coat and no knickers progressive coach . he has done it before regularly too sunderland , Norwich cardiff , to name 3 he is abjectly erratic and out of his depth we have no choice to stick now but it was an error nt to remove him and it’s likely to cost us the ultimate price Yes because removing managers always works for us doesnt it? Here's a thought let's stick by one for a change? Oh and you conveniently forget to mention Boro, Preston and Hull all wins following losses. The manager is not the issue, the ability and confidence of the players is. What did they expect bringing in 18 strangers and expecting them to perform as a team against other established sides, was never going to work. If we can survive you will see how good he is next season.

I agree with you he can only work with what he has and they are clearly low on confidence and consistency. But we have managed to get a result each time after our last 3 losses so let's hope for the same on Saturday, though I cant help feeling that Plymouth will be massive given the former connection.

The reason fans of relegated sides look horrified on the last day is that many of them genuinely believe they can’t go down. I think that will be us on the last day. That performance Tonight was an utter disaster at the perfectly incorrect moment of the season. I think we will crumble on Saturday and Huff and Puff to Division One. We deserve it. Deserves got nothing to do with it

Just think about it,Sheffield Wed.could do the double over us. I went through the fixtures and our results against those around us are absolutely shocking. Blackburn did the double. We gave 3/6 to Brum. 2 draws with udders .. Etc etc. We are so bad. On the other hand, last 3 games we have lost we have won the next one? Lost at Cardiff away 2-1 then beat Middlesbrough at home 2-0 Lost at Leeds 1-0 then beat Preston away 1-2 Lost at home to Norwich 0-3 then beat Hull away 0-2 Lost at Swansea 3-0 ??????? I think we will squeak by

Maybe even goal difference I think we will lose Saturday but in the unlikely event we beat Plymouth we might just stay up The last games we lost Lost at Cardiff away 2-1 then beat Middlesbrough at home 2-0 Lost at Leeds 1-0 then beat Preston away 1-2 Lost at home to Norwich 0-3 then beat Hull away 0-2 Lost at Swansea 3-0 ???????

Manager making a lot of tactical errors at the wrong time…… Thompson at DM should have been nailed on Away from home with burger along side ……. Maybe baker in front of them, Josh Laurent …a Fanny who won’t tackle …. Wrong side ….. hope he gets it right Saturday 🤞 Not the managers fault, the players clearly are not capable of back to back performances. The last 3 times we have lost we have won the next game, lets hope that bodes better for Saturday.

I’ve ever seen from a Stoke side Sorry but if you think that then you were not there the night Birmingham put 7 past us or when Blythe Spartans beat us at home 3-2 so don't be ridiculous!

Yep, it was definitely up there. I could half-accept it against Norwich and even Leicester, but this Swansea side? Nah. The gulf in class was huge. We'll be in League One next season. Sorry but that logic just doesn't work in this league how many times have you seen the results go exactly the way you expect them too, we didn't turn up tonight and neither did the ref. We will probably go on and win on Saturday

So if you look at our record over recent games we win a game lose a game or two draw a couple then lose again. In other words we are not a very good side we are inconsistent due to a combination of too many new players, some poor existing players, lack of confidence etc. Your solution, sack yet another manager, how's that been working out for you so far lads?

You sure? 1998 Birmingham City beat Stoke 7–0 at home which sparked ugly scenes from some angry supporters. Bates and Peter Coates left as Stoke headed for relegation. Chris Kamara came in but was sacked after winning just one of his 14 matches in charge. Former manager Alan Durban returned for the final few matches which saw Stoke needing to beat Manchester City on the final day to stay up. They lost 5–2 and fell into the third tier.[1] And that team would batter our current team. Unlikely

How can it be a poor decision if it works out? It's a huge gamble, a club our size shouldn't need to be taking such risks. Walters has never had to help a manager build a team before and there is no proof he can. I'm all for Walters working under someone who has experience in the role first but he's been thrown in the deep end as it looks. If Walters weren't an ex Stoke player nearly every message here would be very critical of this decision. Every decision is a gamble, how can you not see that? Every player signed, every manager appointed is a gamble. Nothing in football is assured, nothing guaranteed. Luck plays a massive part otherwise unexpected results would never happen. It baffles me sometimes the comments on here they really do. We should beat them because they are bottom. He's shit because he hasn't scored in ten games. We win a couple of games and we are going up, lose a couple and we are down.

Eight teams chasing 6 places, based on last 5 games Plymouth and Blackburn would go down but its so tight anything could happen. Strap in.

As bad as we have been, 2 wins in the last 5 games repeated over the next 10 would see us safe on 50 points?

Post by stokeoptimist on Mar 5, 2024 21:38:51 GMT
If we only match the last 5 games we would stay up with 50 points. We are playing far better than that, just need to keep it going.

Changing the head coach now would be stupid. But he needs to change the playing style to one that is more defensive and direct.I know its not his style but it worked in that last 1-0 game at home. We just need to survive then he can fill the gaps in summer and go again.

Remember when we sold Walter’s and Whelan in 2017 and thinking, shit, this could go badly wrong. Brown leaving was reminiscent of that, the last of our hard working, run through a brick wall, players. I remember they were also referred to as a headless chicken and a sideways crab, go figure
