Just baffles me why teams have a player lying on the floor behind the wall. If the ball goes over the wall and comes back off the bar, or post, or keeper then the player on the floor surely will hinder those in the wall needing to track back. Just looks wank and counter productive

Just looks wank and counter productive I have seen goals scored with daisy cutters when the wall jumps. His name escapes me but I certainly recall an Everton defender doing this.

There's been maybe 5 in the last 20 years It's not worth it, rather have that player marking a player or standing on the half way line

How teams set up for free kicks and corners annoys me. Why don’t we just put Million on the half way line? He’s rapid. If the ball comes up to him, he will likely outpace any of their defenders. They’d have to push their team back and be careful.
This ultra-defensive nonsense at set pieces is boring.

What is.. The lying down, or the futility of it.. The act itself… Why don’t we sit one player on another’s shoulders for extra height just on the off chance… Load of bollocks

It's ridiculous - solving a problem that was never there. As Lordb says, it happens so infrequently that it's not worth it.

Alan Stubbs scored a winner V us in the Cup putting one under the wall. If they jump in unison it makes sense

Be funny to see Alternatively have them jump in a Mexican wave style. 6 in the wall, left to right player 1 jumps, player 2 jumps a nano second later, and so on and so on. Would look awesome.

It closes off an option (Daisy Cutter) and leaves the wall free to jump.
It therefore has the effect of making the wall 'bigger' which makes sense to me.

The point is it never really happened in the first place. Probably first done against someone who'd actually put one under the wall before, and all of a sudden it's there for every single free kick around the box.

I'd like to see the five in the wall doing the macarena with the player lying down performing the worm. It would certainly put the player taking the free kick off and the crowd could hum the tune.

Back in the good old days 😉 there would be a player on both posts for corners and some free kicks. As soon as the ball is cleared the entire defence would move out as fast as possible. Still think it would work at our present level.

I recall Ronaldinho doing this in a Champions League game some years ago. Remember thinking that was exquisite intuition. Lying down at free kicks seems to have become more common since then.

I like to see two players on the post when defending a set piece. Not only can they clear it off the post they are in a great position to clear any second balls. Also I would leave my quickest player on the center line.
