Today just papered over the cracks, for me Hughes's time is up, I sincerely hope he can prove me wrong but I doubt it. A very welcome 3 points but anyone who thinks it was a great performance over an average Watford team is only kidding themselves. Gouranga. An average Watford team who were in the top 6 prior to kick off? An average Watford who played Arsenal off the park a couple of weeks ago and who were much the better side against Chelsea last week and were very unfortunate to lose? This was a fantastic victory away from home against a very decent team this season. No two ways about it. We completely shut them out and got our tactics spot on. They didn't have a shot on target. Yes it wasn't flowing end to end football but it would've been a very stupid decision to set your team up like that away from home when you're so low on confidence and under that much pressure. Give the manager credit where credit is due.

I'm more pleased that we're above the "bigger and more ambitious" West Ham.

I really didn't expect us to win and I very impressed by the amount of control we had in the game. Really didn't give them a glimpse of goal. 9 from me.

The manager is fighting for his job and the players are 100% behind him.

We were comfortably the better team for the entire 90 mins. Butland didn't have to make a single save. And we played some decent football today as well.

Spurs have been much better team. But I think united will win 1-0.

Seriously some questions ought to be asked of Butland as well. In the last 3 premier league games, we've faced 15 shots on target and we've conceded 12 goals. That's a woeful stat for a goalkeeper. Of course the defence must help out but if I were him, I'd swallow my pride and focus on my game.

People on here are mental. Walters was an amazing player for us ... period.

With the squad we have, I suspect there will be few managers in the world who can significantly better what Hughes has achieved in his time here in Stoke. Managers like Klopp, Pep and Wenger would, if anything, do worse.

I am amazed that so many think the Crouch substitution was the correct one. I thought it was diabolical. At that time we were comfortably 1-0 up. Southampton were having to take chances and we they were leaving gaps at the back. At this time we needed pace that could exploit these holes. It wasn't the fact Crouch came on. I thought Choupo should have been the one to come off. From the moment Hughes made his change we were seriously under the cosh. We could easily have conceded more than one goal. We had a break and regained the lead. It was a tap in in the six yard box made by Choupo. I was not impressed with the way we played in the second half. Hughes obviously asked Choupo to play deeper and this gave licence to Cedric to keep running forwards. Pleased we got a result! We were under the cosh long before Crouchy came on. Just check the matchday post for proof. The reason Crouch was brought on was to hold the ball and bring others into the game because we weren't able to hold on to the ball. Not only did you not want the goal scorer to come on, you wanted to take off the player who assisted the goal. It's a good thing you're not the manager.

Could potentially be an interesting game. Don't want Geordies to win cause they'll be really far ahead of us but I hate that cunt Klopp

Interestingly this (along with the 2014/15) has been our best start to a premier league season. Both cases we had 8 points from 7 games but we've had far more difficult fixtures this time around, especially at home.

Can't see them going down with that squad to be honest. I think they'll have a run of 10 games or so where they'll be really good and that'll keep them up.

We had 30%!possession at home to a very ordinary side, can't say I was that impressed. AFter an alright first half, we just became a shambles. Southampton always dominate possession. They had 65% possession against Man United last week. But we seriously limited their attempts on goal. And the fact the we were so nervous is entirely understandable. We lost 4-0 in our previous home game so obviously confidence was low. And the crowd sure didn't help as they jeered everytime someone misplaced a pass.

Shake it bloody up! Get Jesé on? Try to win the game. He'll settle for the point as he's scared. Jese is not in the squad.

If we play with the same intensity going forward with which we played at chelsea and if we can cut out some of the basic schoolboy defensive errors, we are a very decent team to watch. None of those teams have a defence anything close to what Chelsea have got and we were all over them for much of the game.

I think BMI was injured. After the long run to win the ball back from Morata, I think he was signalling to the bench. So why not bring on Souttar? What's the point in him being on the bench if he's not going to be brought on in a situation like this? Beats me !

Not surprised. Martins Indi has been waving at the bench for the past 10 mins.

This is the right substitution. We have been putting in a lot of good crosses in the game and no one has been getting at the end of it.
