Despite today's shocking result we are still closer to the Champions league spots than relegation ???? We are 15th at the moment (equal 10th on points but inferior goal difference)? Both Everton and West Ham could go above us with wins this weekend ? And 4 points above bottom 3 and 3 points of 4th ?

I've said this so many times that I'm sick of even thinking about it... The first job of a defender is, and always will be, to defend. Never mind long balls, through balls, dribbling and Cruyff turns. That sort of obsession is why England struggle against any team with a sniff of quality about them. From what I've seen Ryan Shawcross is certainly one of the best, if not the best, English centre halves. Instead we have Gary Cahill showing the balls of a primary school kid. Just look at his defending against us at Wembley and the Assaidi goal last season to see what I'm getting at. Finally some sense. Has everyone forgotten the 60 yard ball to Annie at Villa last season let alone the fact that a decent proportion of his diagonal balls to the big lad up front actually hit the big man up front.

It's going to take time to completely evolve from our neanderthalithic past. Wish everyone would chill the fuck out. Indeed. Yes the first two games have been woeful, but to go writing off talented players is so OTT. Give Diouf the right service and he'll score goals. The only time he had that the ref incorrectly ruled against him. Roll on Man City say I

Everyone needs 3 touches it seems. Need to get back to playing with pace. A point is a start but so far off where we were at the end of last season is frightening

Against a villa team that had a game plan and took advantage. We were always going to lose 10--15 games a season add to that the expectation that we will win all the time. A good kick up the arse that may be was needed. And a bit of a reality check Regroup and onto hull hallelujah!!!!!!!

'A crowd which sees everything - and I mean everything - through red-and-white tinted glasses may not be everyone's cup of tea, but there's no doubt it boosts the team's chances on the pitch'. BOOOOM! Superb comment

Any starting 11 that may include Jones Evans Cleverley and Smalling is going to struggle Cleverley hasnt been anywhere near the starting 11 in pre season. The other three have shipped one goal from open play in all of pre season, and that was a punt from the halfway line that the 3rd reserve GK let in. Still wouldn't change any of them for our back four

Annie - surely it's about options for positions. Sidwell in would see Palacios move on. A couple of better quality wide men for Kightly and Pennant/Shorten. More options at the back with Bardsley as we were a bit light there with Huth's injury. Finally more firepower up front seems like great business to me

I'm gonna hazard a guess that our main admin jumped the gun, and that the deal is agreed but Bojan needs to ok it - as the Sentinel said. (For which we apologise) So we're a tad red faced this time in fairness, but let's hope it sorts itself out next week. Nicely put

This has been a classic oatcake transfer thread, it starts off with a player being sighted at a location that isn't at the stadium, then everyone gets excited because it's not from one of the usual ITK'ers, then FM will magically pull an obscure link from the doldrums of the deep web which links us with said player, national papers start picking up on it and tweeting about it, odds start appearing on betting websites making us favourites to sign them, then everyone gets their cock out because a completely different ITK'er will come online and claim it's a done deal, even though we've heard absolutely fuck all about it until a couple of hours ago, everyone then sits there all day hammering the living shit out of the F5 button, productivity levels among the office workers of Stoke-On-Trent absolutely plummet, up until the evening when nothing is announced then everyone starts kicking off at the original poster, "Bullshitter, lying cunt" etc, whereupon more evidence appears of either another club being in talks with the same player or that we aren't, and never were in for them in the first place, at which point everything descends into a reenactment of the Khmer Rouge until a mod locks the thread and the same thing happens all over again a few days later. I fucking love it, the only thing missing from this one is interest from West Ham. It's a bit severe to raise Pol Pot in a transfer thread but like your thinking

I'm looking at this from a slightly different perspective. If he comes here on loan and fails, nothing lost; if he comes here and succeeds, not only do we gain an excellent player for a season and potentially beyond but we gain huge respect from the likes of Barca and others, with the possibility of further business. Everything to be gained from this. Exactly it would certainly make a statement

Out of the spotlight of a major European club maybe just what he needs to concentrate on just playing - here's hoping anyway

Unless he's guaranteed to start it would do his career no good to sit on the bench. Look at the likes of Rodwell and Sinclair

If he goes so be it as long as the money is right. As for replacements the last person I'd want is Cleverley, no improvement on what we have in my view. He is only considered for England because of who he plays for.

Before my time! I was only 6! Fingers crossed I'm Stoke's good luck charm, I only started following Stoke (and football) at all at the start of our promotion season and even that I hardly remember! Only followed Stoke closely and became a 'true fan' after the FA Cup Semi Final, it converted me essentially from a rugby fan to a football fan! Football is one of the things in my life that brings me great joy, I owe Stoke so much for being the reason I discovered it God that's made me feel really old
