This is going to be a loooooooonnnnnnnnnnnnnnggggggg summer!
On a serious note, I'd hope we wouldn't stand in Ryan's way. He's integral to what we're doing - yes - but if any of our players deserve a shot at the 'big time', it's our Ry.

Would he play much or just be an English body for the Champions League? It could be a really poor move for him if they were interested.

That is the worry for me, they will be looking for English players to bolster their squad and Ryan fits this criteria and would be good enough to slot in when needed. The saving grace is that Caulker has been linked to, he would surely be a cheaper/more likely option.

Not for less than 20m. We've gone from a team full of players no one wants to a team full of players top clubs are after. It's Suprising how much finishing 9th has raised our stock. Bego, Ryan, Arno and NZonzi could all be in demand this summer. Well do well to keep hold of them. I have a lot of confidence in Hughes and I'm sure he'll do the right thing.

Also propels him into the England setup as well.

That would take a lot of explaining for Woy as he's not apparantly good enough for England but good enough for Premier League Champions with more money than most banks.
Wouldn't be at all suprised to see both Liverpool & Man City in for him this summer, if both we could be looking at abt £20million for him.
We have to be careful that Pulis doesn't come sniffing for Huth aswell and we are left with Wilson & Muniesa. Although it looks like we are interested in that Luisao from Benfica who is a good defender as well so there might be some substance in Shawcross going this summer, he must realise now aswell that if he's ever to play for England he has to play for a someone other than Stoke.

Maybe it would boost him into the England squad but we're talking about the same Ryan who turned down a new contract at Man United to join us, simply because he wants to play every week. Also the same Ryan who was considering leaving us when left out of the team for quite a while during our first season in the prem. He was more than happy to drop back into the championship for first team football at the time. I genuinely don't believe for a second he would leave us for a place on the bench anywhere.
Man City are lacking at centre half though so who knows if he was offered first team football there but they do have a habit of buying English to fill their quotas and have stalled the careers of Rodwell, Sinclair etc. I don't think Ryan would be foolish enough to follow suit. He certainly seems to have his head screwed on.

As Ryan is contracted till June 31st 2018. It make no difference, if any team wants him or if Ryan would like to play for them, if Stoke don't want to sell, he won't be going anywhere. And with such a long contract remaining, he won't be going anywhere on the cheap. Man city do need to up their homegrown talent, Caulker would be the obvious choice as Cardiff cannot turn down a move, as he had a clause in his contract if they got relegated

According to sky, none of man city's targets are english, as they have been quoted transfer fees that are too high.

Shea's agent Spencer Wadsworth told MLSsoccer.com: "There was a discussion going on but that was a couple months ago and it just didn’t work out.
"We couldn’t come to terms. There was interest from all parties but it just didn’t work out at the end of it.
"Right when all those rumours started, there was contact. We couldn’t come to terms and that’s pretty much it. It didn’t work out and all parties were really interested, it just didn’t work out.
"A lot could happen, but it’s not like a closed door completely. It wasn’t a bad fallout. It just didn’t work out.
Do we assume then, that it, erm ... just didn't work out?

Toronto want a loan with a view to a perm move at the end, Stoke did not want to sell, as they want to view him with a proper pre season, as injuries have affected his time here. Toronto wanted to buy, we will see what happens after Shea does a pre season, he has that time to impress

The move wouldn't make sense.
To get around FFP, Man City need to stuff their squad with cheap English players. We are under no pressure to sell Ryan and we could easily hold out for a huge fee if we needed to, so it's a non-starter.

They've only got 49 mill to spend so if they want him just demand half of it. That should put them off.
Seriously tho, bad move for shawcross, he will only play about 6 games a season for them

Replacing Ryan terrifies me more than any other player in the squad. He's so influential to us.
We wouldn't just be replacing his defensive ability, but his leadership too. I rate Lescott and Caulker, but they just wouldn't cut it as a Shawcross replacement.
He certainly isn't a natural born captain but he's living proof, that you can create one.

Didn't Stoke have a spotter at wherever he went on loan (can't remember now!) he got enough game time there for us to have a look at him surely? Has he been involved with the U21's since his loan finished?

He went on loan to regain fitness, and some confidence, he won't know what he is like until he plays in a team that plays out style of football.

I think that cameo at West Ham last season he showed a bit of potential won the pen and had the only shot other than the penalty.
Lets see what he is like in a good team.

I think Shawcross is good enough to establish himself in the first team at Man City, he's definitely a better option than Demichelis or Lescott. I hope he stays at Stoke for the rest of his career, but if he's got ambitions to play international football then he needs to move to one of the top teams and I think everyone would wish him well.
