Bayern is right, this window shows if nothing else, our transfer policy and the club in general, seems to be emerging from the dark ages. It might not all gel and come to fruition immediately, but a step or large steps in the right direction. And all this progress has come with John Coates at the helm

Played for us for a short time in a modest way without exactly pulling up any trees. I just put MOTD on for the first time since we got relegated, have spent 5.1 seasons in denial, but wanted to see how the other half live. West Ham v Chelsea, I think Potter was Chelsea manager for a few short and disatrous months. Dining out on his record at Brighton I thought he might get one last chance at a big gig after the Chelsea debacle but he still seems to be on a 'career break'. Next stop Saudi? Missed a sitter (header) against Leicester in play-off final if i remember correctly?

Basically his logic is because people complained about the puns it made people (including him) want to do it more.... based on his logic lets hope he never sees anyone complaining about violence or such things. Thanks for that Joe wondered what the **** he meant.

Summer holidays, monkey dust, pissing down have a effect. Whereas grown men losing their shit over some daftness that they've helped to perpetuate is entirely acceptable. What do you mean ?

Not being funny guys but the shite that's posted on here, particularly on the 'Burger and Stoke Squad 23-24' threads is now getting tiresome and boring. I don't know how others are feeling but I'm finding incredibly frustrating with having to trawl through loads of crap, which quite frankly isn't funny or informative. Maybe I'm being miserable or have lost my sense of humour but I just don't get it! The Oatcake used to be so much better and it seems to be rapidly going downhill in recent weeks. Admin, please feel free to remove this thread but I think your time would be better spent by removing the pointless posts in the threads that I'm referring to. Rant over but I feel that many others are becoming increasingly pissed off with the nonsense. Sorry guys, but get a grip. Summer holidays, monkey dust, pissing down have a effect.

Too much positivity for thr knicker wetters, as Neil says judge us when the window shuts. Shouldn't that be a few games after the window shuts? Pedantic?

You can say what you like about Nigel's short comings, but what he did well was to paint a picture. Wether that was representative of what was actually unfolding on the pitch or not seems almost irrelevant now. The new guy isn't a patch on Nigel and I find it a hard listen, it's almost devoid of any description of the action taking place. And he also made sure the microphones were plugged in,i was again yesterday listening to crowd noise for most of first have then had to listen to Ipswich commentary for most of second half.

Don't get too down hearted folks, we played a very good team today. I can see why they only lost 4 times last season and scored over 100 goals despite no class strikers. They have superb understanding and romped through our MF, created loads of chances, and they will with lots of other teams. We are still just assembling a team and there is a long way to go to build that understanding. We need to give Neil till October to get them organized into a team. Too much positivity for thr knicker wetters, as Neil says judge us when the window shuts.

www.stokesentinel.co.uk/sport/football/football-news/stoke-city-transfer-alex-neil-8666445Stoke City’s busiest transfer window has been given a twist with the expected exit of key man Jacob Brown. The Brown situation adds a new dimension. It was only on Monday that Neil was talking about the importance of his ‘know how’ at this level, as well as work rate, goal threat and tireless ability to press, harry and hurry. It would be a surprise if Stoke were not tempted to find another forward who can make an immediate impact. Perhaps Neil was trying to raise the offer price?

Well we seem to have gone from bad to worse. Last season was amateurish with Nigel coming to an end and making many many mistakes with his age/memory but with passion in abundance .And as far as Angela goes lets just say nice try just not good enough. ell last night was my first experience of the new commentator and and not entirely sure who was with him. But christ was it moribund to say the least. No passion whatsoever in the guys voice ,just a monotone drone, passionless and utterly boring to be polite. Such a shame but it is what it is, just terrible to listen to. Think you will find Mr Moribunds sidekick was Andy Griffin, i paid for radio pass and all i heard for 30 mins was background noise from the crowd so to hear any commentary was welcome.

You do know they let you leave before the end BTW 🙂 I do but I hate it and with the new bullshit time rules I’ll miss 10-15 minutes which I really don’t like. It will give you less to moan about.

Fantastic title and agree with virtually all of what you have said. Only few bits: Whilst it's fantastic that the approach is now changing its a pity it took them so long to realise the old model wasn't the answer but onwards and upwards as they say. I feel the club has always tried to get best deal in terms of transfer fees and if the deal is right for club but made some bad choices such as not letting players go when offers came forward, most recently Imbulla mentioned and when we players such as Butland were at the high or even when we got relegated. I hope we have learnt from this. I thought the Collins and Souttar deals were good for club but these were needed for FFP. I really hope this new approach pays off and as you said it is now over to AN to bring it together. I'm extremely excited for Saturday. I think the mistakes made in first 2 years after relegation limited greatly what they could do,big player contracts on players who had no real interest in playing for Stoke and who could not get a permanent contract really dragged the club down. All mistakes which with hindsight could have been avoided but the desire for a quick return may well have clouded judgment. Just pleased that we seem to have put F.F.P. behind us for now.

Hasn't featured much for Burnley at all since they singed him. Looks like he was first choice for Coventry from January onwards though last season? A singe takes along time to recover from, very painful,if he has fully recovered worth a punt?

Can someone change the thread title to his actual name I can understand someone spelling his surname wrong but a 4 letter first name..... In all fairness the original poster got the first and last letter correct which having witnessed some spelling on the Oatcake is no mean feat

Yes and so did Liam Delap, who we all thought would propel us to promotion You win nothing with kids as Alan Hanson once said 😂 Delap couldn’t score for Preston (or us), Cannon could. Cannon needs the ball to achieve anything.

Looking at the squad, we have a number of young players who have either come through our academy or been signed as young players. Very few of them make it into the first team by the age of 21, so at what point do you write them off and get whatever you can for them? Tom Edwards at 24 is one I think we should definitely cut ties with. He did look very promising when he was 18 or 19, but seems to be a classic case of 'too much, too soon'. I can't see him having a career above League One level now, and I don't think he's good enough even as a back-up for us. Connor Taylor is also being written off by quite a few people on here, but at 21 I still think there's more to come from him, and to me, he looks to be in a similar place that Harry Souttar was at his age. That's not to say he'll develop the same way that Souttar did, but I don't see what good can come from flogging him for peanuts now. The lad had a very promising loan spell in League Two and surely the logical step is now to see how he does in League One for a season. That's exactly what we did with Souttar, and he came back an absolute beast. Taylor is a bit cumbersome, but he's also shown glimpses of ability. DWP is probably a bit behind Taylor in that he hasn't really done anything on loan to suggest he'll make it, but there's definitely something there- he's another who needs the right loan before we make a decision on him. Basically, we need to make sure we're not going to regret turning away a potential star, or even just a useful first-teamer, because they don't look quite ready at 21 (Ben Brereton Diaz, anyone?) There's a difference between those players who have shown a bit of something at that age (Taylor, DWP) and the ones who haven't (McCarron for example). Between 21 and 23 is a crucial time for a player, and we should be loaning players out between these ages rather than cutting ties with them if there's a sniff of potential there. Like Ben Brereton Diaz,

If Gayle is on 20k it would be a pretty big saving. Only if someone else is daft enough take his contract on. If we could get someone interested and pay a percentage of his wage it is a saving?

Loan is what you'd expect as I can't imagine he is cheap. Which is why Chopper and MC being so certain it was a permanent shocked people. Unless things changed over night. Perhaps they need to save the money they would have paid buying him to help pay for the striker. 😉 And then buy Travers next summer. 👍 I am no expert but with F.F.P. would it not be better to loan for 1 year then purchase at the end of loan?

Both in Croatia. The reason they go is because it’s a cheap market. Fleetwood market is cheap but unless you want to buy Y-fronts, 100g bags of fishermans friends or 1970s beige shower curtains it's a total waste of time. What price are the fishermens friends?

Dont get signing Travers on loan* unless we need the money that had been used to sign Sarkic to go towards another permanent signing. * only because the club have suggested their preference is permanent. Could we loan Travers and get a possible permanent deal included? A bit surprised we walked away from the Sarkic deal! I wonder if Ben Pearson had a word with the "boss" ?

Nobody comes to work to do a bad job at some point you have to question the leaders if it’s everyone’s else’s fault But they have done a bad job…. If nothing changes,no new ideas or concepts are added things do tend to stagnate, not sure if all the changes were needed or wether all the changes were made by the club but change was needed.
