Just a reflection, that the new guy is very young! He wasn't even born when Stoke had their 70's glory years and we beat Arsenal 5-0 and won the League Cup. Neither did he live through the excitement of the Macari era. So he is hardly going to be inspired or motivated by memories of our illustrious past. However there could be new dramas waiting to unfold . . . .! The last time we raided Plymouth worked out o.k.

What do we think then ... wednesday ish announcement ?? I see Carsley isnt being discounted by the Sentinel ... but i dont think anyone knows anything 🤔 I am not sure that JC or Tricky Ricky know anything either! 😅 I get that we have a process and we need to get the right man, but why are some other clubs so quick to make appointments? Alex Neil was a quick appointment?

Hard to get a deal done when it never existed. If this is true I have at least enjoyed imagining it for a while……… What if any actual thread of evidence can anyone provide and verify as true regarding any names on the new manager list? i have not seen or heard anything that i would count as evidence ,the club are keeping this hand tight to the chest, just hope the wait is worth it.

Yeah it seem obvious that the club have put this line out to try and deflect. Its a no win for them really if they came out and admitted he had been interviewed people are left wondering why he didn't get appointed, if they explained it was due to FFP the new manager is already 2nd choice. Some things are best handled in this way when everyone knows the truth. Just like Lenny and his dog. Second choice you say when in reality they will be best achievable under current rules.

Don't subscribe to this going up to early malarky. If we go up we go up and you deal with it. We're going to struggle whenever (if ever) we go up. We need a keeper in January or we cn forget the playoffs. Yep, I'd much rather be trying to stay in the Premier League than trying to be promoted from the Championship. Got to agree, also the 80+ million in the kitty helps?

Yet we still get some calling for new owners? Probably because we’ve spent 7 years in the bottom half of the Championship. They have wound up the club, is that really the best that people hope for? If spending money improving the the ground, the training facilities, the squad(mass clear out as requested by fans) with a much younger squad than we have seen in years, No price increase in season cards since god knows when ,free travel to away games if that is winding up i will show my arse in Burtons window. Mistakes have been made but who doesn`t make mistakes and all this under the constraints of F.F.P.

Can you think of one reason why someone with no links to Stoke would want to invest and risk their money in the club? Chance to own a premier league club. It will never happen as The Family don't need to sell. They clung on for grim death when they had nothing, despite offers of investment, conned the Icelandics with the golden share scam and then bought it back cheap when they made big money. Why would they sell? I tend to think most millionaires achieve that status by investing in schemes which make money, outside of oil rich princes or Russian friends of Putin i can`t think of any that have supported a club in the way the Coates family have, their local club and on top of which they have hugely supported local charities.

Dick swinging mainly. Or property if it's the right club. Or both. This. Owning a football club, for many, is just about ego. There are fewer and fewer owners around who do it for the love of the club And we have and are very lucky.

Don't see the regular callers for the Coates heads in threads like this, funny that ayy? Look at what you can end up with The word 'can' is doing a lot of heavy lifting there. What I can't fathom is the steadfast belief held by many on here of if 'The Family' didn't own us then it'd 100% be someone like this Chansari prick. Why is it so black and white? Can you think of one reason why someone with no links to Stoke would want to invest and risk their money in the club?

I’m not gonna say it but you know what it is How many clubs are now getting plunged into utter turmoil with owners who get bored of it all Good luck to them Yet we still get some calling for new owners?

I remember this conversation after the Cov game and our hoped-for play-off push Sunderland 5-1 Blackburn 3-2 Boro 1-1 Norwich 0-0 Cov 4-0 Bristol C 1-2 Brum 0-0 WBA 1-2 Wigan 0-1 Cardiff 1-1 QPR 0-1 Watford 0-2 Aa has been said, as a general rule, we do always look okay against teams that fancy their chances against us and make a game of it (as the last 3 games have shown)- less so teams that just dig in and make it tough. But we do hopefully have more arrows in our quiver now. Apart from the top 2, the league seems to be much of a muchness as usual. And how many of the players who played in those games are still at the club?

You want to tell other clubs, the extent of our injuries? What advantage does it give to other clubs. It’s not like we’re handing them out our intended team sheet for the next game. It might not tell them who is playing but it does te;; them who isn`t .

Without the family backing we are bust , in administration or liquidation sure they need some help in making these key managerial decisions but there are no more willing owners in all the divisions more capable yes but more willing no . They have done what most fans wanted .search overseas bargains and given time and support not wet knicker waving fans i do believe we will be better.

Changing the subject, I know but I thought I'd just mention that my wife loved the strip worn Wednesday night at Huddersfield. She would like Stoke to wear it all the time! Just saying like. Has she asked to wear it and gone all David Mellor? There is nothing wrong with going Mellor ,ask the wife

Another disappointing result but I think people need to calm down a little and actually take in what has happened in the summer. Of course criticising individual performances is what football is all about but it really is a long term project and there isn’t an instant fix given that many of the players have to adjust to a new country and a much more competitive level of football. I honestly don’t think we can judge the success or failure of the recruitment until Christmas because understanding the strengths and weaknesses of your team mates will take at least till then. We have signed some exciting talent and yes some of the signings will not be what we hoped for, it’s called football. Is Neil the manager to bring the project and squad together, I have no idea but he’s the chosen one of those in charge for now so we have to give him a chance to blend the new squad into a better team. I am neither a fan of his or a detractor he speaks well but so have many managers who sat before us. The only place he will be judged is in theatre of battle. I believe we have more than enough to finish in the top half of the table this season but consistency will not happen overnight. I still believe we will have more enjoyable days than bad ones by the end of the season whether Neil is still manager or not. I am concerned by the lack of competition in the centre of defence and at goalkeeper but hopefully we can improve between now and January and whatever recruits we make in that window need to be in that area. It’s not good losing a couple of very good forwards so early and hopefully Andre and Ryan will be back in contention for selection sooner rather than later. We do look toothless with both of them out of the squad. If we are still misfiring come Christmas then I believe the owners may have to look at someone different to push the project forward but until then I am going to relax and try and enjoy the good days and hope the losses will become less. In reality if we had 3 wins 1 draw and 2 losses it would be a more realistic tally for how we have played so far As you say work in progress and it will take time to gel, only minor criticism of yesterday was not putting Lowe on instead of Gayle with us on top and attacking at will.

www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-merseyside-66745500How the hell did this yob get his touchline ban overturned. Abused a young ref at an under-7s game and then threw punches at a match official who stepped in to protect the young ref. There has got to be strong deterrents against such behaviour. Think the 5 year ban is lenient myself,as for the 150 hours community work should all be done whilst his favourite team is playing.

Johan Bångsbo from IFK Gothenburg, left sided centre half, 20, very highly rated. On the bench for them today, my friend says he expects him to be sold. Would be an excellent signing for us IMO, hope we are in for him. We need a leader at the back not a 20 year old regardless of how good he may be. A captain at the back. Ryan shawcross?

Some games will require more grit in and some will need more quality. Its a long season and it's nice to have some options for once And the opposition will only find out the make-up around 1 hr. before the game instead of knowing we have no alternative but play the same as week before if fit.

Bayern is right, this window shows if nothing else, our transfer policy and the club in general, seems to be emerging from the dark ages. It might not all gel and come to fruition immediately, but a step or large steps in the right direction. And all this progress has come with John Coates at the helm

Played for us for a short time in a modest way without exactly pulling up any trees. I just put MOTD on for the first time since we got relegated, have spent 5.1 seasons in denial, but wanted to see how the other half live. West Ham v Chelsea, I think Potter was Chelsea manager for a few short and disatrous months. Dining out on his record at Brighton I thought he might get one last chance at a big gig after the Chelsea debacle but he still seems to be on a 'career break'. Next stop Saudi? Missed a sitter (header) against Leicester in play-off final if i remember correctly?

Not being funny guys but the shite that's posted on here, particularly on the 'Burger and Stoke Squad 23-24' threads is now getting tiresome and boring. I don't know how others are feeling but I'm finding incredibly frustrating with having to trawl through loads of crap, which quite frankly isn't funny or informative. Maybe I'm being miserable or have lost my sense of humour but I just don't get it! The Oatcake used to be so much better and it seems to be rapidly going downhill in recent weeks. Admin, please feel free to remove this thread but I think your time would be better spent by removing the pointless posts in the threads that I'm referring to. Rant over but I feel that many others are becoming increasingly pissed off with the nonsense. Sorry guys, but get a grip. Summer holidays, monkey dust, pissing down have a effect.

Too much positivity for thr knicker wetters, as Neil says judge us when the window shuts. Shouldn't that be a few games after the window shuts? Pedantic?
