Who needs a single rival ? SCFC is disliked generally including by many of the ‘bigger’ clubs ....... which is nice and proves we did something right back in the day.

If we lose you get a rag bag collection of Vale, WBA, Arsenal, and Sunderland (recently replaced by Plymouth) supporters displaying their almost complete lack of wit. If we win - no one bothers. Generally it’s not worth reading.

Should be a good manager - definitely a football ‘brain’ to coin a cliche. Just hope the Fleetwood set up is good enough to give him a chance to prove himself.

Who remembers the good old ‘transfer tribunal’ - that worked well 😱😱😱 It was only for out of contract players an even worse restriction of personal freedom. It shafted the ‘selling’ club with monotonous regularity.

The problem with that is the bigger clubs can exercise those mandatory fees at a stroke, unlike those in the EFL. No-one is holding a gun to the head of those players signing long-term contracts and in fact for the player himself, it is a guaranteed salary for a large chunk of his career. If one of my players on those 5-year contracts was attracting interest from the vultures after a year or two, I would invite him to sign an extension on a higher salary (again, a rise that the player would be reasonably content with but that doesn't break the bank). It's a thing in some countries the release fee is set by some formula that involves the purchase price and wages and is fair to the registration holder. Doesn't matter whether they have a gun held to their head or anything else every contract should have a release mechanism that allows a parting of the ways without ongoing restrictions. It's simple human decency. Who remembers the good old ‘transfer tribunal’ - that worked well 😱😱😱

I don’t watch it , it’s tedious beyond belief. Wish I did have some sort of say in the matter - it would be back to being a knock out tournament instantly !! Virtually all the most successful tournaments have a round robin element. Straight knockout is pretty antiquated. It’s more exciting and would stop the poor old multi millionaires whinging about how knackered they are from playing too many games. All the European competitions should revert to it.

The whole thing would interest me about as much as the current Champions League does . That’s simple you just don’t watch them then why should people with your mindset get a veto? I don’t watch it , it’s tedious beyond belief. Wish I did have some sort of say in the matter - it would be back to being a knock out tournament instantly !!

On the other side of the coin the Scouse Stoke roll call has some decent members - Pej, Inchy ...... He did. A couple of streets away from me - according to my very observant Window Cleaner at the time. As did Chris Greenacre for a while. Thinks....wonder if Schumie will be looking for a place in North Warrington now... (Edit) - meant to respond to the Sheron post. I might be imagining this but I think he ended his playing career in the illustrious surroundings of Cantilever Park !

What could we have had? Please enlighten us In our current position... Jesse Marsch Roy Keane Steve Bruce Sam Allardyce Slaven Bilic Ralph Hassenuthel Steve Bould Ole Solskjaer Nigel Pearson Darren Moore Jurgen Klinsman Michael Laudrup Nigel Adkins Tim Sherwood Ex frankfurt manager (name escapes me) And a whole host of others I've never even heard of but then it's not my job to have done either. Gloss this appointment up how you want with your rose tinted glasses on, the issues people have are legit. If it goes tits up we're playing Vale next season. Fact remains we've taken a massive gamble at the wrong time which is quite ironic considering we're owned by a gambling company. Depends how ambitious you want to be doesn't it. As a few others have said, last chance saloon for Coates this Totally understand the apprehension about this appointment but in the cold light of day I can’t really see any candidate that would represent anything other than a ‘gamble’ apart from a proven firefighter like Warnock and I couldn’t see that going down too well. As for Coates he can afford to make as many mistakes as he likes (and pays for) - his family fortune remains the only long term hope for the future.

A lot of people would say the same about the Stoke accent. To non Staffordshire folk the Stokie accents a very tame version of Scouse accent anyway. Only a county away I suppose so not going to be a million miles apart! Ive heard this said before and it has always baffled me - I’ve lived in the N.West nearly all my life and spent a good chunk of that time working in Merseyside and to me the 2 accents are not remotely similar. (the posh Wirral scouse is manageable but the Jamie Carragher brand sets my teeth on edge)

I used to have a very pragmatic ‘results are all that matters’ view on these things but after the last 6 or 7 years I will be quite happy if the bloke can just introduce a bit of fun to the experience rather than the joyless grind that following SCFC has become.

It’s a fun read isn’t it - not least for their apparent belief that any Stoke manager is required to move themselves and their family to a two up two down terrace in 19th century Burslem ! It is mate and i remember when Pulis left them as well reading the same forum I’d forgotten about that - we’ve got form here. Let’s hope it works out as well.

I’m very wary about this one. Only got one club on his CV and we all know how much that can give a false impression (hello Nathan). However if nothing else the law of averages must be on our side and we are due to get one of these decisions right.

It depends if you subscribe to the much quoted belief that these players are better than their league position suggests. If you do then the last two results / performances have been barely adequate if you don’t then he’s done pretty well to get anything out of a group where confidence must be at absolute rock bottom.

Think he might (at this level) be one of those players who could win games for you IF the team as a whole was functioning and able to dominate games. As things stand just feels like the proverbial luxury we can’t afford.

I’m at a loss to know what we need. As Gallagher is showing we need someone to organise what we’ve got quickly so we scrape enough points to survive but in terms of building a side that can win games and compete in the top half we are as far away as we have been for the past six years.

Frankly we play like a team that doesn’t expect to win so the fact that we haven’t for so long should suprise no one.

This is good news. He always seemed a very likeable character and an undoubted talent. Another example of the curse that SCFC has become for any player in the last half dozen years.

Would Eustace enthuse people? I just can't see it. We need someone to send a bolt of energy through people. The only people the manager needs to send a bolt of energy through are the players. It's the players who send a bolt of energy through the fans. The social media age has ushered in a bizarre over emphasis on personality - people no longer be just good at their job, they now have to be media personalities as well. There are some jobs where being able to inspire millions of people requires good mass communication skills (like politician). The manager of a football club has to inspire 20-30 people - that's a completely different skillset. What works to inspire millions (or thousands for that matter) doesn't necessarily work for 20-30 people and vice versa. Give me substance over surface every time. And adulation makes me nervous - it's usually symptomatic of a con trick. 1000% correct.

He's another pragmatist just with a fancier name. Don't be fooled by this potential appointment. Ah but the name is crucial here - the people are demanding a foreign sounding title, the longer the better.

Well it might not suit but facts is facts and if people are sick it’s going to influence who can be picked and will , unfortunately, have a detrimental effect on whatever plans had been made. Clark playing again despite being shocking vidigal on the bench Junho being played out of position no Junior in the squad yet again despite being our best player in the 2 games he played being left with Stevens as the only left back so having to play him These are "facts" that don't relate to illness in the camp How do you know Junior isn’t ill ? As for the line ups it’s all a matter of opinion - certainly not fact.
