Before everyone goes into their weekly full on Daily Mail reader ‘shock & outrage’ mode about selection or non selection can we take on board the news that there is illness in the camp. Excuse in the bank already for today's shambles then Well it might not suit but facts is facts and if people are sick it’s going to influence who can be picked and will , unfortunately, have a detrimental effect on whatever plans had been made.

The stand in managers were what they were but there is a case to be made for all the permanent appointments. Why they have not been successful is something that we will probably never really be able to fathom but it certainly wasn’t anything to do with a lack of support from the ownership. Perhaps we haven’t really had the underlying structure correct but even that is a matter for debate. Just as there is no magic wand to provide success there is no glib explanation as to why things haven’t worked. Life is complicated !

Maybe not but we ain’t that bad that literally nothing ever seems to drop our way. When we start playing well/ if we ever start playing well, the luck will follow. You have to be in it to win it and Stoke never put themselves in it. I’ve run out of cliches this evening You resisted the ‘buying a ticket to win the raffle’ and ‘swings and roundabouts’ options so fair play !

I’m reasonably confident that given the rest of the season to work on this Neil and his team will make significant progress. The constant desperation to get rid of managers is frankly tiresome and (as we have demonstrated) non productive. Not a view that’s going to win many friends I know but I think people have to recognise that the difference between success and failure in this league is paper thin. One thing that has been massively missing this season and a few previously is the merest hint of good fortune. Things could turn very quickly if and when a few things start dropping our way. As the old saying goes “you make your own luck”. We don’t do enough to be lucky Maybe not but we ain’t that bad that literally nothing ever seems to drop our way.

What is tiresome is hiring the same type of manager over and over and expecting different results. If you stick with a manager who is not going to get the job done I'd asy it's much worse than cutting your losses and trying someone new. To be honest there have been some very different characters and very different skill/experience sets amongst our last bunch of managers. The only thing they haven’t been - and this will probably be the craving for some - is foreign.

Firstly I don’t think Neil is going to depart anytime soon but secondly I think people who say ‘we re just a bottom half Championship team so haven’t got a chance of getting X,Y or Z’ are getting it wrong. We are in fact a club who can back its ambitions with financial stability and , above all, can pay any potential manager a huge salary (PL level) ....... both these things are VERY rare in this league.

What a lovely video. He grew up in my part of the world and occasionally gets a bit of coverage in the local paper - let’s hope this has just been the start of something special.

Last night changed nothing - all about the ref. He should be given the rest of this season to establish some sort of forward momentum and consistency. Re-assess then.

Some managers are better when they have limited budgets and small squads. I fear Neil is showing himself to be one of those - too many theories / too many options swirling around in his mind. Sometimes it’s works , a lot of the time it doesn’t and in those games it can be a very dispiriting spectacle. Having said that I think there is little chance of him departing this season barring any outright disasters.

I’ve paid no attention to boxing since the days of Harry Carpenter on Sportsnight but I have to admit I’ve been hooked again watching this lads contests - I just hope now that he gets the big title chance he deserves and equally importantly the massive pay day that will set him for life.

Perfectly sensible arrangement. Experienced and competent keeper who will no doubt be providing back up to a younger bloke in the not too distant future.

Get a defensive system that works and employ some reasonably competent players who get that their primary task is to stop the opposition scoring and you have the basis of a promotion winning team. Our attacking options are as good as they have been for a long time but we do lack that Stein / Sheron type player who is going through the golden period of their career and find it easier to score than miss.. All in all I’m more than happy with the way things are shaping if this defensive improvement continues.

Its abysmal - takes all the natural flow and momentum from a game. Football is a simple game not suited to microscopically analysed scrutiny of events (it’s bad enough listening to the post match guff from supposed experts without having the same sort of nonsense influencing the results of games). Goal line technology is fine - quick easy and non debatable - the rest should be binned pronto.

Overall consistency of performance is something we have lacked from too many players for too long. Fingers crossed he is (along with a few others) beginning to show that.

Do we have to go through this I told you so bollocks at the end of every game? You shouldn't have to apologise for having a fluid opinion of a manager who before this week had an absolute dog shit record. The saddest part is that after a win, their first thought is to hop onto here and have a dig at fellow supporters rather than enjoying the win. Sad, juvenile and just plain thick unfortunately. No the saddest part is that we will probably go through the same scenario again next week. No recognition by some that that the manager knows his own players better than them and can make informed decisions.

Go against your natural instincts and just try giving the bloke a bit of support - it’s the best for all concerned in the circumstances 👍 He deserves no support. He gets backed , plays well , Stoke benefit. Basic thinking on my part I agree but it’s got to be the aim hasn’t it ?? Or are you in this for some sort of masochistic pleasure I’m (thankfully) not aware of ?

Go against your natural instincts and just try giving the bloke a bit of support - it’s the best for all concerned in the circumstances 👍 He loves giving out online abuse at people without realising he’s doing it Yet on threads discussing it he speaks out against it Fuckin confuses me Me too - anyone has a right to a view on a player but the incessant derogatory stuff about players who are currently plying their trade for the club we all hope wins of a Sat afternoon leaves me cold and a bit disappointed. I hasten to add it’s not just Bayern.

Not particularly no. Nothing spectacularly good but not drastically poor either. Like I said I’ve seen plenty of keepers prone to many more drastic clangers than Bonham has ever dropped. We’d be better off with a fan in goal. At least it’s funny unlike that clown. Go against your natural instincts and just try giving the bloke a bit of support - it’s the best for all concerned in the circumstances 👍

To reply might imply I think Bonham is a bad keeper which I don’t but just for 3 goal keeping mares off the top of the head try the likes of Pressman, Marshall and Siddal . I’m sure there will be more. People are transferring all our previous defensive woes very unfairly onto Bonham’s shoulders. You don’t think Bonham is a bad keeper? What? Not particularly no. Nothing spectacularly good but not drastically poor either. Like I said I’ve seen plenty of keepers prone to many more drastic clangers than Bonham has ever dropped.

Genuinely, who are the worse keepers than Bonham we've had in the last 20 years? Just for the record I’ve seen far worse keepers than Jack Bonham playing for this club. The responses here border on the hysterical.

It’s an interesting point - what exactly should we give AN any credit for ? Surely there must be something he’s done / is doing well ? No manager with a half decent record such as his suddenly becomes a complete blithering idiot.

I’m a bit tired of hearing about his ever changing tactics and I’m a bit tired of hearing about the good things that are happening despite the fact we never stop losing football matches. I think Mr Neil needs to stop theorising and start doing whatever it takes to win games. I really thought he had more about him than this.
