We were better this day than we were in the 6-1 vs Liverpool, best ive ever seen us What set it apart was the complete control. ManC (top of the table) couldn’t get near us the whole game, we totally dictated it from start to finish. In the Liverpool game, if we’re brutally impartial, they were atrocious. Also it felt there was a slight element of fortune in that everything we hit went in.

I’ve always got the feeling that he absolutely despises our club so regardless of whether we’d want him I’m absolutely certain he would never come here. We're a fairly big club in the league with benign local owners who have a history of treating managers incredibly - not to say excessively - well. He'd be here before you could say Rio de Trent if JC did give him a call.

He comes across as yet another British manager on the trudge circuit of British managers. Jobbing around a good few league clubs without too much stand-out success. Our next manager I'm hoping is a bit of new broom. Or a completely new broom. I can live in hope. Yeah. We need a manager who'll enthuse and it's not him Even if he is probably unfairly maligned by our fans after our run ins with him. He's a bit of an idealist who plays good football and there are worse things. Miserable sod though I'd take him over Neil if I could click my fingers tonight , but that's a low bar I really struggle to think of a manager I wouldn’t take over AN now, if only to freshen up the face I’m moaning at every week

Well they do say things come in three’s… So here’s hoping another team beginning with S sack their manager tonight following Swansea and Sunderland’s lead…Sheff Utd are set to! So that's two teams that play in red and white and one called SCFC... and we're still not one of em

Brentford, Bournemouth, Fulham, Burnley, Wolves, Forest, Ipswich, Sunderland to name a few. I must have missed the 10 years they have all spent in the Prem. You want to risk the very existence of our club just to be like one of those. In life, the only 2 certainties are death and taxes. A 3rd near certainty is the continued existence of SCFC so long as the Coates family own us. And to think Arnie suggested we weren’t ambitious, tsk

Well who else is it March And don’t say the fans It’s the owners that get the incompetent managers The appointment of Rowett was widely welcomed on here. The appointment of Jones was pretty much universally welcomed on here. The appointment of MON was largely welcomed on here. In AN, we have appointed an upcoming young manager who has plenty of experience already, has earned 3 promotions and turned around a bigger club than Stoke who were in a worse position. Criticism of the Coates family is completely ridiculous. It’s almost like it’s not the managerial appointments themselves that are the problem isn’t it

Its a good job nobody in the Coates family logs onto The Oatcake to listen to all these experts.Ironic comment about JC thinks he knows something about football - who says that? Think 95% of the moaners on here need to take a long hard look at themselves and ask themselves what do they know and of course they feel they could do a better job. Yeh - give us a break and just shut up. Just took a long hard look at myself but John Coates still seems to know piss all about running a modern football club and I’ll continue to moan about it cheers

We are regressing at an alarming rate of knots. I never saw it coming but we are definitely more likely to be relegated than challenging for a play off place. These last few games I've looked to the dug out to try and gain some reassurance that AN is in control and will make tactical adjustments or tactical thought out subs but all I see is is a little bald fella with his hands thrust deep into his tracksuit trouser pockets with a bewildered expression on his face. We're in deep shit as long as this cretin remains the manager. We’re in deep shit whether it’s this cretin or the next cretin or the cretin after him. Our next move out of this division is downwards.

Quick question.....would they run bet365 like they've run us? I mean they don’t run bet365 do they. Seems patently clear that’s why it’s so successful

If we are in a bad way because of the family, especially JC,there is a simple way out, just employ professionals to run the club for them,or are they just too stubborn? I actually feel like they did take a step towards this last time out - the contracting of tricky and Jared was a progressive move on the face of it, and no one can say our recruitment model didn’t drastically change. The problem is they still entrusted the overall management to an old-school figurehead British manager. They bodged it and did it arse about face and now they’re up shit street because it hasn’t worked out.

We are a bottom half Championship club that for the last five seasons has been far closer to relegation than promotion. The realistic list of candidates will be the likes of Chris Wilder, Dean Smith, and John Eustace. We need to accept that we are where we are as a club - Potter, Bielsa, Cooper, and some of the other names recently banded about on this board are just pie in the sky. Bielsa has Uruguay sitting 2nd in World Cup qualifying and his last two results are wins against Argentina and Brazil 😅 so I’m fairly sure he won’t be tempted by a move to the Potteries right now

After nearly 4 days of intense negotiations, the landlord's agreed to buy a mattress topper for the bed which he's delivered this morning. I shall see how that works later tonight Make sure you leave him a good review!

What reminded me about this was my son sent me a text earlier saying that he'd just found out that Belle and Sebastian were named after a French novel Oh Lord. Dont tell him about Arab Strap! Which itself was actually "inspired by" - some might say ripped off - the name of a fellow Scottish band, rather than the device itself

Has anyone got any guidance on the sizing of the kids' shirts? The guide on the store page only shows adults' sizes...
The options are JR Small, Medium, Large and XLarge, any ideas what would be best for an eight- and ten-year-old?

Had two absolutely world-class poached eggs with mashed avocado on toast about an hour ago. Prepared by marlady, perfectly gooey yolks, salt and a couple of twists of black pepper, chilli oil and coriander to garnish. God damn. Love an eggy-weg. I didn't have you down as part of the metropolitan Liberal elite fella. Please tell me it wasn't sourdough bread? Reminds me of a few years ago when my then 6 year old son had a massive strop about the fact that his smoked salmon, smashed avocado and poached egg toasted sandwich was taking too long to come in some trendy little cafe we'd stumbled across. My 6 year old self eating fried egg and chips in Tunstall Market flashed in front of my eyes and I had to chuckle to myself........... I grew up on battered sausage and gravy from Moby Dix in Hanford, I've earned my refined tastes mate

What's Mrs Log's secret for a great poached egg. I've tried a number of methods and never get it right I really don't know mate, I've watched her carefully and she doesn't seem to do anything special but I can't replicate it to save me life. She just carefully cracks them into gently simmering water (quite shallow). But whereas hers come out plump and rounded and soft, mine look like something you might see at the end of a urinal in a pub in Trent Vale. That said, I can do a mean version of an egg which is sort of semi-fried, semi-poached - heat quite a lot of olive oil in a saucepan so it's very hot, then lower the heat and tip the pan so it pools at one end, put your eggs in (easier if already cracked into little bowls) and spoon the oil over the eggs while at the same time gently gathering the white in and over the yolk so it makes a little compact package. You don't need to cook them for long at all. I've found it a great alternative if your poaching game is wanting.

Have you not been dealing with landlord directly through the site? Yes. i have been having direct contact with him but he's not interested in doing anything which is why I have gone direct to Air BnB Yeah without wishing to sound blunt, if everything else is in order you're not gonna get far with a complaint that you don't like the mattresses. You could leave a bad review about the owner not listening if you want but it won't solve anything for you now, and you'll probably get a bad review back from him.. Best to find a way to make do if you can. Extra blankets etc as suggested above.

I can’t have egg next to beans on a full English, I have to build a sausage dam to stop them colliding I might want to mix them but I want that to be *my* decision. Use a sausage as a breakwater

It's not the same with something like Twitter though, which has become, for good or bad, a de facto virtual public square. Technically it's a private company who can do what they want, yes, but in the context of their position in the modern world of information exchange, I think they have a responsibility to uphold free speech, impartiality, and an equal opportunity for airing of views. It's a vastly different thing from traditional media who have a legal responsibility for content published (which is accordingly selected, vetted, and sub-edited) through their channels. Anyway this is taking the thread way off topic It is not a “de facto virtual public square”. It is not taxpayer funded and ran by the government. Its got nothing to do with the constitution. Thus, it should hold the same protections as sending in your article to other platforms. I couldn’t go to Trump Tower and stand there shouting “Trump is scum” at the top of my voice and expect not to be escorted out. I could do that in a park though, as long as I wasn’t endangering anyone. Key word mate - "de facto" It simply can't be subject to the same conditions as other publishers because of its very nature - unless we want Twitter to be in some way legally responsible for every tweet published, which would effectively kill it completely (I know you think this would be a good thing, I'm on the fence myself) If you don't uphold a principle of free speech with something like that, you run the risk of people fighting controversial fights against injustice being further marginalised and silenced (as mentioned by Paul above), all at the whim of whoever happens to be in charge. I don't want a corporation to be in the position of deciding who can and can't speak.

The World would be such a better place if Twitter just crashed and burned, and wasn’t replaced. It’s done far more harm than good. Also, the Constitution regards protections for free speech from the State not private businesses. His stupid little war on something that isn’t real has only served to allow people like Choudhary and Robinson a platform to spew even more bile. Businesses don’t guarantee free speech, the State does. If you write an opinion piece for Fox, they don’t have to publish it and it’s not a suppression of your rights. It's not the same with something like Twitter though, which has become, for good or bad, a de facto virtual public square. Didnt we try this with Nathan Jones? Weve tried proven managers (Rowett and Neil) and an up an comer in Jones There is something else wrong behind the scenes These managers have done well at previous clubs and Rowett and Jones did a fair job at Millwall and Luton Undoubtedly so, the club stinks but we shouldn't let the fact that Jones was a disaster dissuade us from trying again. The bloke is batshit crazy. Also it’s not an example of us “doing some hard work” to find an up-and-coming manager. We quite literally happened upon him in a pub.

I did a similar bit of analysis recently, I did a five-year rolling average of our overall finishing position at the end of every season since the war, counting all the leagues (so for example our current position is 37, counting the Prem and the Champ).
As I recall the last five years are about our sixth- or seventh-worst period out of 75 such periods since the war.
All of this should completely put to bed any apologism about knowing our place and where we are being the natural order of things. How we are currently performing is not far off as bad as it generally gets for us. It can get worse, of course, and I’m more and more convinced that it probably will, tragically.
*edit- not quite as bad as I remembered, it's 15th-worst of 73. The period '91-'06 basically covers all the top positions.
Our best-ever five-year average was the last season of TP and the first four of LMH.
