Stoke City Manager Alex Neil has left his position with the Club. Chairman John Coates said: “Alex is a man of absolute integrity who has given his all for Stoke City, and we would like to thank him for his hard work during his time with the Club. “We are grateful for the building blocks he has helped put in place in bringing together a group of players in whom we have a huge amount of faith regarding their ability to turn things around this season, and who can help us achieve longer-term success. “However, with the way the results have been so far, we have made the difficult decision to seek a new direction for the team at this time. “Nothing matters to me more than the success of our club and we are now working towards the appointment of Alex’s successor.” Technical Director Ricky Martin added: “The recruitment process is now underway and we will explore all avenues to secure the best person for the job. “The role represents a fantastic opportunity and I anticipate that it will attract a number of high-calibre candidates. “With Martin Canning having also left the Club with our sincere thanks for his hard work as Alex’s Assistant, Paul Gallagher has been installed as Caretaker Manager ahead of the forthcoming home fixture against Swansea City. “Paul will be assisted by Alex Morris, Ryan Shawcross and Jonathan Gould. We wish them all well for Tuesday evening’s game.” A man of absolute integrity? Bull. Shit. The man was in the stands at Blackburn when his current employers had a game against Norwich at home. He’s an absolute snake. Still, though. Good news for you lot that he’s gone. I remember this leaving a slightly bitter taste at the time tbh.

Apparently some Spanish bloke is visiting on Tuesday. God, can you imagine. The board went for “fan favourite” and managerial virgin Marc Muniesa. Turns out to be the second coming and we thunderc@nt it up the league, promoted and then on into Europe. Bound to be back in for QSF

I'm worried now who we bring in. Got get this right This little periodic frisson of excitement/fear when we sack the most recent failure of a manager is pretty much all I live for as a Stoke fan at the moment 😅

For anyone born after 1970 his team was the best footballing Stoke side we’ve ever seen, and maybe will ever see (certainly feels like that now). However badly it ended that’s something to cherish and remember.
LMH is quite a self-deprecating soul but I’d find it quite sad if he really thought we didn’t remember him fondly for that

Just two days, and a decade, ago… Some of the players in that Chelsea team, jeez. Incredible to think we were a match for a team like that And pushing for the win right to the end as well. Now we play to hold on for the point against bottom of the 2nd div

I’m not saying there are no examples of unwarranted/unfair criticism. But are we any worse than other clubs? I think most clubs have a section of the fanbase that get vocal after a run of shit performances. It’s not for me, but I get it. Arsenal fans have jeered plenty of players and managers over the last decade, as have Man Utd fans. Villa fans have openly revolted under several managers - but they’re doing pretty well under a coach who can actually coach. Are their fans a problem too? You are of course correct, but our reputation for fickleness has followed us for decades. It’s a Potteries thing to think we are unworthy and everyone else is better than us. You won’t allow for even mild criticism of the billionaires in charge of our club for 35 years, preferring to hold ordinary fans accountable for our demise. Have you just honestly typed that last sentence with a straight face?

Even the normally completely anodyne Sohail on the wireless was tearing his hair out about the lack of urgency in the goal kicks. That’s quite clearly instruction and it’s unpardonable, how we haven’t announced it already I don’t know

I think it’s the narrowness of our stripes that would possibly make the names & numbers even more difficult to make out. Either way it’s something we decided to do rather than any rule or regulation

Further, what is the point of Blondy?? He must be about 26 now Awful goalkeeper! It is strange that Fielding doesn't even make the bench in this situation. But imagine the uproar if he started. Got an injury as well supposedly

Perhaps the options to give people a choice in relation to commentary using the red button 1- all male commentary 2- Mixed commentary 3- Female commentary Then you could please everyone. The figures would be very interesting and because your choice would be anonymous it would give sky / bbc a good idea of what the majority want. You’re missing the “I don’t give a shit as long as they are competent” option, which I suspect would win by a landslide

Something which troubles or at least confuses me is this. We keep hearing of, for example, 'fierce fighting' and 'house to house battles' but is there actually any real fighting going on at all? In Ukraine we see exactly that, fierce fighting, troops in trenches shelling one another across a battle line. I don't think I have seen any footage at all of what you might term 'fighting' in the Gaza strip. All we see is footage of Israeli bombs and missiles systematically reducing the townships to rubble, shelling them in to the dark ages along with anyone inside. But is there any actual fighting? Where are the Hamas fighters? Are they just holed out in a tunnel with a shotgun and a couple of sling shots waiting to be blown to smithereens? What are the Hamas tactics? Just vanish as far as possible in to the population and wait for the destruction to end? It's all mystifying to me. Has there ever been a more one-sided war? I am not even sure you can call it a war. None of this forgives what Hamas did, nothing could, but it looks to me like a military state armed to the teeth with the latest US weaponry against a few peasants. And that, candidly, is why I don't find myself cheering them on quite as loudly as I might. I'm very much in the camp of violently eradicating Hamas and all Islamic extremist groups within the Palestinian Territories. They are disgusting and need to be taken out. But your post is well written and hard to disagree with. Hamas will be cheering on the Israeli hostility in Gaza. At what point do Israel call it a day? I don't see much value in their continued occupation unless they know something we all don't. Without wishing to be glib, or even necessarily disagree - there is probably quite a lot of something they know that we all don’t
