Including Premiership relegation Reads ( league games only)
P 287 W 86 D 82 L 119 P 340
an average of:
P 44 W 13 D 13 L 18 P 52
Or 6.4 seasons of relegation form, that is beyond depressing and they are so lucky that 20k still turn up week in, week out, myself included.
By comparison the worst 7 seasons in my life time 84 - 91 which included 2 relegations our record was:
P 308 W 86 D 89 L 132 P 347 at an average of 49 points per season.
We really are in a run that is up there with the worst of times in living memory, that cycle has to be broken and repeating it with same model similar manager clearly isn’t working. I fully appreciate what the Coates have done for us, but that recent record needs to be hammered to the board room door with a message stating it’s not the fans and a mirror!!

Our fans are anything but fickle we’re still turning out in very good numbers to witness this shit. The Coates will not appoint a progressive coach it’s not in their nature. Any idea of them trying anything different is prohibited by the ghost of Nathan Jones.

If clubs who have no money, suddenly ended up the owners who have the kind of money the Coates have,I get they would be more successful than we have been, even with all that money we still haven't won a single bean.
We came close twice,FA Cup Final,League Cup Semi, yet after all these years under the Family,we have mainly failed.

Blimey, we really have become a basket case of a club. Pound for pound and given our wealth we must be down there with the worst of the worst in the entire league structure. Appalling stats they are. This needs sending to JC asking him what the hell the plan is to correct it. Neil has to go. For whatever reason its just not going to happen for him here. He's had a year and a half nearly and I actually think we've got worse. No signs anywhere of things getting any better. The odd unbeaten run and then back to despair. Time to go.

The support of this club is incredible. To turn out such big numbers home and away week in week out in spite of some of the most disgusting performances you'll see from a Stoke side - it deserves immense praise.

That really is horrific.
We are so lucky to avoid relegation with that record over time. Just shows the under achiever mindset at the club from the very top. We seem to dig in only to avoid disaster, but never to actually push on to improve.
Ambition? Don't make me laugh.

Mark my words, the malaise hasn’t bottomed out yet. We are going to have to repair ourselves in League 1.

P 286 W 86 D 82 L 118 P 340 Just me or does it feel like we’ve actually been much worse than that? Probably due the expectations we had certainly in the first two Championship seasons and the fact that the only really good run of form in that period where we got nearly 90 points in 12 months was largely watched from home rather than the ground because of Covid.

It is even worse than you say. Take MONs. 122 points in 2 seasons away and what is the average then.

It might be me being thick mate, but 18 losses from 286 games played ain't bad going... What’s that meant to be how many home games we lost last season? Stigger: it’s not the number of losses but the number of wins and draws that is important. Over the past 6 seasons we have thrown away way too many points from winning positions. yesterday was a prime example. We should seen that out because QPR are a bad team - in fact we were doing fine until the substitutions, which were necessary because they were knackered. But he should have brought on anyone but Hoever who can’t defend. Better to bring on Rose and play five across the back and three in front.

I did a similar bit of analysis recently, I did a five-year rolling average of our overall finishing position at the end of every season since the war, counting all the leagues (so for example our current position is 37, counting the Prem and the Champ).
As I recall the last five years are about our sixth- or seventh-worst period out of 75 such periods since the war.
All of this should completely put to bed any apologism about knowing our place and where we are being the natural order of things. How we are currently performing is not far off as bad as it generally gets for us. It can get worse, of course, and I’m more and more convinced that it probably will, tragically.
*edit- not quite as bad as I remembered, it's 15th-worst of 73. The period '91-'06 basically covers all the top positions.
Our best-ever five-year average was the last season of TP and the first four of LMH.

When I first started watching Stoke in the 70's a home defeat was a rarity. Now we seemingly can't even put a side together to win half their home games.
This is by far the worst run in my time as a supporter.

The likes of Sunderland and Ipswich going to league one and coming up and going straight past us like we're not even there is utterly depressing.
They're also living, breathing proof that there could be life after the Coates which a lot on here struggle to believe and automatically think any other owners would just strip the club down.
