I had thought a few times over the years why it was named thus and finally a DJ said there's the theme tune from the film Unchained I didn't know that either. I have always subconsciously assumed it was titled that because the melody wanders all over the place with large intervals between the notes, an unrestrained (hence unchained) melody. It's a really great song though, the Righteous Brothers version in my opinion being amongst the greatest records in popular music history.

What reminded me about this was my son sent me a text earlier saying that he'd just found out that Belle and Sebastian were named after a French novel

Elvis' favourite song was Unchained Melody by Roy Hamilton ..... As explained by Bill Medley

I had thought a few times over the years why it was named thus and finally a DJ said there's the theme tune from the film Unchained Weird as I was watching the episode of Cheers earlier, binge watching from the start , where Sam found out that it was the song that made Rebecca Howe give in to anyone. Norm wanders into to her office after he's played it and she smooches him

Which itself was actually "inspired by" - some might say ripped off - the name of a fellow Scottish band, rather than the device itself

I'm sure Unchained Melody holds the record for being the song which has reached #1 the most times by different artists.

I think he was lined up to produce the first Smiths album (but it was canned, and released under a different producer instead).

Rinse aids in commercial dishwashers often contain alcohol ethoxylate. This substance damages the intestinal epithelium, which can lead to chronic diseases

Hadn't realised until hearing something on tele that Argentina is fucking massive!
If you laid it on a map of Europe it stretches from the top of Norway to the toe of the boot of Italy. Tipped on its side it pretty much covers mainland Europe apart from Scandinavia and a few of the eastern European countries.
I always just assumed it was about the size of France so was miles off!

A mathematician was on the radio yesterday plugging his new book. He asked how many people need to be in a room together for the probability of two of them sharing a birthday to be greater than 50%..... apparently it's a low as 23
