A couple of questions on this absolute tragic case www.theguardian.com/uk-news/2024/may/01/father-of-girl-died-channel-family-feared-deported-iraqIf crossing by boat is deemed an illegal way to enter Britain and gain asylum, why didn't the family ( and other similar families) enter by a " legitimate " means?( And I am not talking about the rights and wrongs of the UK making it 'easier' for people to apply for asylum eg having a processing point (s) on the continent I am asking about the methods by which people arrive here. Secondly if they have already lived in 4 EU countries and had their asylum request turned down 14 times, why would coming to the UK offer more hope....I'd imagine that for whatever reasons the other 14 applications were rejected, the UK would probably reject them for similar reasons There are no legal ways of entering the UK unless you come from a few specific countries which have a deal with the UK

Feel free to share them then. The "measuurable metrics" please if you will. Khan is an abject failure. And his mismanagement of crossrail has directly impacted us in the North badly. The bailouts he had to receive were taken straight out of the northern budget and stopped the electrification of the Manchester to Sheffield line. The cut in that funding was announced the same day that crossrail was granted additional funding. And it was his decision to hamstring crossrail by freezing London transport fares. And the terms of his bailout has meant he has had to expand the ridiculous ULEZ scheme. He's also had to increase council tax by more than any other authority in the country at 9.5%. He's a blame passing show pony whose only real interest is in being prime minister. Only real issue is there is nobody better putting themselves forward for the job. As ever we are reduced to incompetent fuckwits in high office. 😔 Quite a lot of this is completely untrue, and no Im not going to pick it to death even though I could.

We,the 99% and that is basically everyone on this board really dont have anyone at all to represent us.They are either left wing loonies right wing loonies or just loonies, and not in a nice way either. But people themselves are a reflection of governments .We have become a selfish nation where everyone looks after number one and the loser in that mentality is society itself. My father was a miner then Shelton Bar and then self employed, a staunch Labour man from a staunch Labour family. He has now become selfish, votes tory, and dislikes many foreigners which he never did before. He sees all the city collapsing around him but he thinks its all good because he has a few bob,and hes like the king of his tiny castle.Pathetic. Its actually a depressing time around the world at the moment. Still like to think of myself as a bit of an anarchist and the more the capitalist system devours itself the more anti government I become. You are right to despair at our politics and politicians, but this country is still great despite them. The UK is the second most influential country in the world with a tremendous heritage and huge amount of talent. People are generally kind and generous. You need cheering up:- reaction.life/letters-returning-from-abroad-helped-me-see-the-great-in-britain/Cheers buddy but just because someone is telling me something is great isnt enough reason for me to believe them.

With respect Paul I think that’s quite an arrogant answer. Does that mean that people aren’t allowed to have a valid opinion around Israel or the Ukraine because they’ve never lived there. With the www. it opens the whole world up to people, plus people can talk to people who do live there and base their opinion from their experiences. I think if we’re honest this isn’t around people who live there being experts and those who don’t knowing anything it’s about politics. The majority of those defending London (from looking at the likes and posts) are on the whole more left leaning so will defend Khan because of his politics and not because they live or have lived there (So have I). I’m sure if it was a Tory mayor with the same record the views would be very reversed and people on the left would be scrambling to say how useless a Tory mayor would be. It’s the same with the recent defending of the Met Police re the Israeli gentleman crossing the road that was no different than the guy with the piano at the station. Both were trying to antagonise a situation but the response was very different even though the behaviour of the men and the officers wasn’t. The argument isn’t truely about what’s right or wrong / for or against it’s about people nailing their political flag to incidents to try and score browning points. In relation to yesterdays incident. It was truely tragic because some poor lads lost his life and some poor family a son that’s the tragedy here and I’m sure we’ll hear more over the forthcoming days about the murderers history and the failings / missed opportunities of agencies. Right now whether it’s London, Birmingham or any big city things need to change around so many things to get the country back on track. There’s so many reasons why this countries in a mess at the moment. Like it or not London as its capital is its flagship so it gets the attention. As I’ve said there I’ve lived and worked there and am still a frequent visitor. The square mile is truely beautiful however from my experience leave there and you enter a whole different and more dangerous land. You can’t compare Greenwich, Richmond and Kingston to Barking, Croydon and Hackney they may as well be different parts of the country but they’re all London (this is what often dilutes the stats great wealthy areas mixed with areas of great poverty). You talk about arrogance and then you have the audacity to tell people that if we're ('being honest about it') the real reason that they are defending London from the constant criticism on here, isn't because they believe that they are justified in doing so but rather because they have some political affiliation to Sadiq Kkan - christ alive, listen to yourself, telling people why they (in your opinion) *really* believe something is the very height of arrogance and is actually pretty insulting too. If London is such a terrible place, why has the population (as a whole) as well as the payrolled population, exponentially grown for the last 50 years? Why do house prices continue to grow year on year, it's all a bit weird, if people don't want to live there. I purposefully DIDN'T compare Croydon to Greenwich, Kingston and Richmond but rather I compared it to the demonised version of it that is regularly portrayed on this thread. You've said that London is some sort of 'flagship' (or words to that effect) and that is why it's justifiable that it gets the attention it does before but this simply isn't true. The media base their reporting on the severity (and the size) of the CRIME not on the postcode in the country where it is committed. Nearly a fifth of the entire population of England live in London, so it is perfectly logical, that more violent crime is reported in this city/town than anywhere else but that doesn't then mean it's some sort of lawless no go area, for ordinary people on the street. Oh and as for your attempt to compare the police reaction to an agent provocateur of the Israeli state with a guy (legally) playing the piano on a train station concourse in London ... really, seiously mate? We stopped in croydon for three days last summer and yes it has an undercurrent to it but we had a right blast.Maybe we just fitted in.

The Tory candidate looks like she struggles to walk and chew gum at the same time so if it's not Khan let's hope it's Captain Binface at least....... And Khan has proved to be a roaring success. Perhaps looking like you can walk and chew gum at the same time doesn't work... Knife crime is nothing to do with Khan, Labour or the tories. No one individual or group can be held accountable its a composite of numerous ingredients.

So Mickleover have today been docked 12 points for playing an unregistered gk for seven games. Fair enough you might think, they broke the rules. But they did send the paperwork to the FA who failed to pass it on to the relevant authorities. Apparently it is a club's responsibility to check the registration has gone through before they play him so their appeal failed. Meanwhile in the fantasy world of the Premier League you can break the rules by overspending by millions, not pay what you owe to other clubs and businesses, not pay players wages on time and you end up with a 2 point deduction My friend is a Telford fan and because Mickleover have had a 12 point deduction they play them tomorrow night. He says the winners will go up as Leamington and Redditch are just not as good.

So what would be your plan? I'm sure it must be a fairly straightforward thing to solve. More Police powers, stop rank and file officers being afraid of repercussions of searching people for knives. Thats that sorted then.Next problem.

Living down here near Plymouth I can give you some off the beaten track destinations. Looe, Fowey, Padstow and St Ives are great places outside holiday times will be rammed bank holiday. Portreath is good and there are old tin mining trails well marked for dog walking. Bodmin shouldn’t be dismissed as it’s the start of the Camel Trail and the Borough Arms at Dunmere just outside Bodmin on the Camel trail offers ample free parking and decent food. From here it’s a 5 mile walk to Wadebridge which is a decent destination. I was in Bodmin last year dreadful ran down town with many bordered up shops etc.It has the jail/hotel etc but I would not go there tbh ,its a shame what has happened to Bodmin. We actually stopped in Wadebridge and would recommend to start the camel trail there.

All the help for mental illnesses have been taken away in the 14 years of government austerity.People need to take a good hard look at thmeselves, take a step back and just think about the cosequences of their decisions/voting in politics, because as much as people think it doesnt matter ,it most certainly does. All to save the bankers, all those years ago. Yet it was a labour govt of 10 plus years that was incumbent when the 2008 financial crash happened. And it was Gordon Brown who saved the bankers arses. Not going into who was to blame for the banks but I know who is to blame for shutting/closing down all the help.

Thinking of going for a week in Cornwall and taking my dog. Looking at Looe, Fowey, Padstow and St Ives. Want a few dog friendly restaurants and pubs, also good walks and surrounding places to visit. Any ideas, which places to go?? There are numerous pubs/bars/restaurants in Cornwall what allow dogs.Everywhere is good for walking in Cornwall and as for places to go ,it all depends on what you like/want. Whatever you choose Cornwall is ace.Enjoy.

Strange isn't it Hundreds partied at Brighton after relegation and some getting upset over the players applauding the fans for their brilliant support . You don't have to stay. If they walked off at the final whistle and didn't acknowledge the fans we'd have some getting all worked up A local trait is moaning for moans sake.

Very valuable member of next seasons squad given his versatility and experience and attitude , will also allow us to go to the wire in the window in some positions if necessary . He isnt good enough though.Yes all running and energy but I dont see his calibre of player getting us promotion.

trigger warning for the two ronnies. apparently, this memorable musical sketch of theirs is one of david lammy’s guilty pleasures. Do we have any other people on here apart from white born British? Just saying because I know its a joke but people do and in some cases have a good case, and may find the above offensive.

Get rid at the end of the season. He has not improved the results or performances to a degree that he can take us forward to challenge for a play off place. SJW appears and then things started improving perhaps we are starting to sort the top of the club out but feel we need a manager with more tactical acumen than what we have. Even if we finish in 17th position its been another woeful underachieving season. nothing to celebrate here, beating Plymouth and getting to 50 points should be a bare minimum, much work to be done. Get in the sea.Pathetic post imo.

Does anyone know any decent wild camping spots like staffs/Cheshire way…we are looking for more woody areas if possible, there will be 3 of us but all in our mid to late 40’s so very responsible and tidy with no fires planned or anything like that. It’s given pretty bad weather at the weekend so a sheltered woody area would be ideal really after a walk Take it you’re aware it’s illegal? Just a note its actually legal in Scotland. But just ask and 99% of the time its ok.Manifold Valley ,Dovedale ,Roaches Ive camped around them all, even Biddulph Moor.

No one gives a shit really .The whole Flag country Dragon scene ,and as for the patron saint he isnt doing a very good job is he. All outtdaed religious, catholic ,make belief tripe. Go and tell the Irish that. They celebrate a man who drove all the snakes from a country where their were no snakes to start with. There are differences mate.Patrick was a real person who really lived in Ireland, and did help spread christianity to the people. Whereas George may well never even existed. Plus the Celtic history keeps it alive and well.Add to that the English have always thought that they were better than everyone else and so we became the pomopus big brother everyone hated and loves to beat. That breeds the pathetic stiff upper lip what stops us having fun, like the rest of europe does.

I've never known anyone celebrate St George's Day. I worked in pubs for a number of years and it was never a thing. There used to be people out for St Patrick's day dressed in their leprechaun Guinness hat's and more people would drink Guinness on that day other than that nothing. A few pubs do but overall no one gives a monkeys.
