This is comical. WE NEED A STRIKER GARY Diouf, Crouch, Afobe, Campbell, Berahino Even if we play 2 strikers we still have far too many Problem is even at this early stage it seems that Rowett only rates 2 of those strikers (Crouch and Afobe) and the others if we can’t shift them out will bide their time between the bench and nowhere near the match day squad each week.

I will go first ...
federici for me
I just think he is the better keeper Based on what? His 2 competitive appearances since 2016??? Butland all day long (even though admittedly he hasn’t been great) Once the window closes and he’s still here I’ll bet he’ll improve massively without all the speculation and be a top keeper for us again. (At least until January 😜)

Gayle with the assist. He's done more in 20 mins than Afobe did all game Did you forget Afobe actually scored on Sunday?

Maybe but doesn’t alter my original argument that having a bloke in goal for the next 4 games who has played only 2 competitive matches in 2 years isn’t a good idea. It's not. But I don't think having Butland is ideal tbh. If Grant was still here, he'd be in for me. He was an ideal and obviously cheap replacement if Butland went. Still can’t understand why we let a decent number 2 go so easily. Surely he thought he had a chance at being our number 1 if Jack left. I know he’s at a big club at The Shit but he’s a number 3 keeper now and never going to play.

Err yes. He made a mistake that cost us a goal on Sunday but he also made 2 great saves to keep us in the game. He hasn’t had the best of years but I’m not surprised with the injury he suffered and the car crash of a season we had. Butland is a top goalkeeper and the fact that a club like Chelsea are chasing him tells you all you need to know about his qualities. Federici was brought in as a number 2 and I’d worry if we had to rely on a bloke that’s made 2 appearances in competitive football since 2016. Great saves? The were regulation saves that any pro keeper makes. Just like the second goal should have been. Maybe but doesn’t alter my original argument that having a bloke in goal for the next 4 games who has played only 2 competitive matches in 2 years isn’t a good idea.

And have Federici in goal for 4 games. No thanks, it needs sorting before that with a proper number 1. Why? Do you think he is any more error prone or any less commanding in his box than Butland is at the moment? Err yes. He made a mistake that cost us a goal on Sunday but he also made 2 great saves to keep us in the game. He hasn’t had the best of years but I’m not surprised with the injury he suffered and the car crash of a season we had. And have Federici in goal for 4 games. No thanks, it needs sorting before that with a proper number 1. Well, obviously the hope is it'd be done ASAP, but it's not as if the world ends if we don't get a keeper in by Thursday afternoon, which is what the Sentinel article makes out. I can understand there being no massive rush for outfield players but I think the goalkeeper position is a massive priority if Butland goes. Anyhow I’m sure we won’t let him go by Thursday unless we have a new number 1 to replace him.

I can't really understand why everyone's pretending the timing of this Thursday deadline is a factor in anything for us. For the Premier League teams it is, but not us surely? We could theoretically let Butland go on Thursday, then have a further 3 weeks to find a replacement keeper. And have Federici in goal for 4 games. No thanks, it needs sorting before that with a proper number 1.

Not sure why this is a problem with the deadline effectively being 31st August? From Butland's point of view, if he was to miss this amazing chance to become Chelsea's No.1, surely he'd be pretty resentful? It may not come around again. www.stokesentinel.co.uk/sport/football/jack-butland-stoke-city-chelsea-1869115It is understood there have been talks at Stoke over Chelsea’s approach, but sources close to the player believe three days is not long enough to agree a deal and for the Potters to bring in an adequate replacement.
Whoever wrote this rubbish clearly doesn't understand modern day football. The simple fact of the matter is if Chelsea lose Courtois to Real Madrid and decide that they want Butland as a replacement, he will go whether it`s today, tomorrow, Thursday or by the end of August on loan with a view to buy in January. Stoke`s predicament is irrelevant to Chelsea and Butland and whilst we may think we`re in the driving seat contractually, it`s well reported that footballer`s contracts these days aren't worth the paper theyre written on. Hopefully this will drive his price up a bit more than the £20m + add ons that is rumoured.

With how desperate they’ll be, I don’t think we should be accepting 20 rising to 30. Fully agree! Let's see how the chuckle brothers can fcuk this one up too That’s not funny. The Chuckle Brothers are no more. RIP.

Anyone else enjoyed watching Glen Whelan barking instructions at his teammates, getting them organised, always being available to receive a pass thus creating space for other players to receive the ball and quite comfortably managing to pass the ball to a teammate in a manner that enables them to actually do something with the ball? Must admit watching him do the job he’s there for ie break up the play and keep things simple reminds me it would be nice if we could have a midfielder that could do that!

Fully agree! Let's see how the chuckle brothers can fcuk this one up too We will end up with some useless wanker on a season long loan to sweeten the deal ala MVG on loan to placate the natives. MVG can certainly arrow them in!

Butland will go for 30 million I bet the blue bastards in Brum are hoping so, their crafty transfer team negotiated a 20% sell on clause, maybe our crack transfer team should take note Is that a typo? Didn’t you mean to say crap transfer team 😂

I'm actually beginning to wonder for the first time if he's actually a bit shit? He’s only had one good season for us imo. To be fair if we get the mooted £20m+ with I hope some add ons, then even with Brums cut we should have a fair amount to reinvest in the squad via 1 or 2 permanent deals (obviously 1 of those a decent goalkeeper) before the window closes and some loans up to the end of August. Bye Jack

If we somehow get £10m for him, we desperately need to be spending that money. If we don't, you have my permission to string up Tony and co by the bollocks. More than likely it’ll go in the clubs coffers and we’ll get a loan as a replacement. Seems the club has never had a forward thinking strategy by the looks of it.

Fee agreed, just debating how the payments are made, Stoke wants more upront.. fee around 10 mil. Will be going now and will hopefully be done before Thursday.. medical possibly tomorrow afternoon at the earliest. Who are we looking to replace him with? Someone on loan who’s probably 33+

Yep and the first name that met all the criteria was Claudio Yacob. 31, Baggies - fits the bill. When does he sign or do we have to chase him for a few more windows until he's 33? Yeah 31 is far too young 😂

Why he’s been shit for 3 yrs 🙄 And was the only positive (apart from Mclean) that came out of the game yesterday. He has been passed from pillar to post since his recovery from injury. Give the guy a break, put an arm round him, give him some confidence and we still have one hell of a player on our hands To be fair most of our players have been shit for 3 years, that’s why we’re in the mess we’re in!

Until we get a target man in, he's indispensable. I think we’re basing it all on him not going anywhere and we haven’t got any interest in acquiring another target man. If he goes last minute we’ll be in even more do-do!

Serious question.
Showing all the glimpses of them when they got double relegated.
Not a clue from top to bottom, and judging the signings, the pre season matches and yesterday, its not looking good.
For anyone that slates me for asking this, I'm sure Sunderland fans said exactly the same about them at the start of the year saying there was no chance of relegation again.
Something needs to change and fast. Something needed to change fast from last May. All we did was change our manager. Not going to happen in 4 days is it?

Left this till today. Didnt expect that yesterday, especially after seeing the team sheet apart from Douglas that was the side that was near the bottom of the form table for all of 2018, so very surprised. 1st half was exceptional, we could have scored 4 or 5, some of the passing was fantastic, so slick, lovely 1 touch passing. The interchanging of positions made life difficult for you, the movement of the front 4, your defence seemed lost. 2nd half wasnt quite so comfortable but bar the penalty (which im not sure was one) until you made some changes you didnt look like scoring. Crouch came on, Flether to and Bojan, you seemed to have found a decent shape, 4-2-3-1 i think. Saiz no longer had the room to do his thing, the long balls forward had a proper target and there was a link between midfield and attack. All in all it was as close to perfect for us as you could get, could and maybe should have scored more.Bielsa did what he needed, tactical masterclass from him. Some thing about you guys that i thought well watching 1) Your defence was to inflexible and slow, Roofe pulled them all over the place and gaps opened up, especially first half. 2) Afobe was so isolated, the midfield 3 never got close enough. 3) Midfield failed to track the runners beyond them, Saiz and others kept finding space between defence and midfield. 4) For reasons i dont understand, one tactic seemed to be long balls to James McClean, who is hardly a giant human being, didnt get that. 5) Subs made a difference, Crouch won all the headers, Fletcher helped nulify the players running beyond midfield, Bojan was the link between forward and midfield that was lacking first half, credit to Rowett for that. 6) Its only 1 game, wouldnt worry about it to much. One thing Bielsa does need to work on is his bloody interviews. That was car crash tv at its worst. So excruciating to watch 😖
