Crikey moses!
Not quite up there with 'Grant to Manchester United' in the surprise stakes but not far off.
You could make a case that while he may be as old as the hills he is still the only bloke we have on the books who knows where the back of the net is!

Agree. Ridiculously low transfer fee even for a bloke his age. Would easily score them 8-10 goals in a season. Would rather keep him.

500k is very low you’d think we might get 2m. At least we should get his wages freed up to spend on a young striker.

Like I said keep him then. £500k is useless to us whereby Crouch coming off the bench over a 46 game season would no doubt be a lot more beneficial.

If the player wants to go it might not be as straightforward as that.

I don't know where we currently stand with financial fair play rules but if selling Crouch to Burnley means that it enables us to free up a wage, so we can stay within the rules and we can then bring in somebody like (say) Gayle, then it makes sense to me.

Yes understand that he’d find it hard to turn down playing, perhaps what may be his last season in the PL again but I wonder if he’ll realise he’ll possibly get more game time with us than them. Here’s hoping anyway. Like I said if he goes for that amount we’d be the big loser in that deal.

To be honest even for us he should be eminently replaceable at this stage. He’s third choice striker.

You have to think that of Crouch has the opportunity to finish his career in the Premier League he will take it. In the words of Neil Young, famously quoted by Kurt Kobain in his suicide note, 'It's better to burn out than to fade away'

Find me some examples of a 38 year old outfield player who's signed for more than a million quid. In the real world, 2-4m is laughable for a striker his age. It doesn't happen. The world record fee for a 37-year-old is £2.13m. For a 38 year old it's £765,000. Both were for goalkeepers.

Crouch has said that he wants to stay and he is a great addition to our squad, especially in this league. If another club wants him, fair enough but they need to be offering more than half a mil. He scores goals and goal scoreres cost money, if their club wants him to stay, which we do.

Think the story is rubbish but getting half a mil for him at this stage is actually a good deal. Do I want him to go? Hmmmm. Not really but that's for sentimental reasons and the fact he's actually a top bloke. I'm not sure football can afford the sentimentality though.
