ince, volkes and mclean cost a lot more than bojan, arnoutivic and shaqiri The only manager we’ve had that was in the slightest bit interested in shopping abroad was Hughes. No doubt that’s where best value is but it’s been a real blind spot for Coates and every manager he’s ever employed bar Hughes. BM The days of overseas players have gone and I don't think the Coates was ever a great fan. Our overseas scouting has been absolutely awful and you wonder who co-ordinates this. You would expect MON to have next to zero knowledge of overseas club football and seems fixated on Scotland (which he knows) or NI players he has worked with. His recruitment is going to be interesting and will be the difference as to whether we can progress. I have never understood considering the riches we have as a club why we didn't have the best scouting and recruitment team in place across the whole of Europe. Coates is very old school with his insistence on giving the manager total responsibility for scouting and recruitment. It is what has got us into this mess. And as a perfect example of the clubs commitment to having a recruitment team and process that befits a top hals premier league club we recruit just Mark Cartwright!! We all know his cv but what didn't appear on it was that he was JC's beer monitor who always bought the drinks. I know this from someone who was part of their drinking club at The White Lion Barthomley. Until the Coates family break up their cosy Cabal of PC JC and TS and allow someone with serious footballing knowledge and credibility to spearhead recruitment and be part of the board we are likely to continue to bumble along.

Some decent managers and hard to beat teams coming down into championship next season - it’s going to be tough tough tough, without some good characters with the right winning positive attitudes we could struggle and MON will really need to prove he’s the man Those clubs will just be replacing the likes of Leeds west Brom Fulham and maybe Brentford, all with decent managers and hard to beat. So it will be no more or in deed less difficult next season than this season. MON has done a remarkable job with an unbalanced squad who were under performing. His record suggests even with no changes in playing personnel he will deliver enough points for a top half finish. The real issue here is how good is he in the transfer market and can he make 4/5 signings that will turn us into a team pushing to be in the promotion shake up. His recruitment to date has been a mixed bag and his success at scfc will hinge on his signings. His obsession with Scotland is a little worrying. Of course we have to stay up first and we are still only a couple of defeats away from a corporal Jones moment

Zip.... many of the players are clearly unfit, disinterested and ill prepared for the return. Let's not forget the decent form we were in pre lockdown. For them to become such a complete rabble reflects on the manager, which is a worry, what the hell was he and the coaching staff doing with them and monitoring them during lockdown? Answer seemingly fuck all

Is Ward out of contract or will it be extended for another season. I seem to remember when he was signed there was a clause for an extension if he played a certain number of games. Maybe it's a bit premature to wish him bon voyage.

Since the season restarted. Most expected home advantage to be reduced but that stat is a bit of a shock.

7 strange starting lineup but it's likely he would have been influenced with fitness stats more than usual. Subs were good and a streaky point from the first game back. Can only improve

wow i had to double check that the Championship was restarting today. Hardly any mention on news sites or radio. I guess everyone is still 'partying' because of the restart of the Prem. The media did tell us that it would give errr the whole nation a boost! I am an exile so don't know but was there dancing in the streets, or perhaps the media were doing the usual overhyping of the importance of football. My interest in football was waning even before Covid, I managed to watch half an hour of live premier league this week before turning off.I even tried BBC radio 5 but christ that was worse. But I am hoping that my beloved Potters will re-energise me with some big wins before the end of the season starting today.

It would be a lazy signing and a poor one. Another ageing pro on a last payday, we have already seen what a disaster Fletcher was and we already have Ward who is probably set to get an extension to his contract based on appearances he has made and to a lesser extent Sam Vokes. The manager knows him but hasn't played for NI for 3 yrs, he played 1 game for WBA last season was he injured or just seen as not good enough for a team with promotion ambitions? People say it's low risk but he will take up a squad place and the manager has said he wants a slimmed down squad, a decent salary and with FFP we need to be caution on expenditure and he will possibly stop a younger player from breaking through. As I said it's a lazy choice but many managers do this. Come on MON you have done an amazing job so far but your recruitment will probably define your success here. Get your NI/Scotland blinkers off and find some gems like other clubs seem to do have you heard of that place called Europe?

I don't think there are many if any who don't think he is the right man for the job. His record to date has been unexpected and stunning in equal measures. Two major pluses for me has been:
Goals scored...after years of austerity in the goals for column he has turned this round with some very iffy (campbell apart) forwards. His philosophy of wanting attacking football is absolutely right and gives you the best chance to get promoted. Man management...It's fairly obvious that he has significant skill in this area. Most of the players have improved under him mainly because they buy into what he has to say. It must have come as a welcome relief after suffering Jones's amateur psychobabble and seemingly sticking their fingers in their ears to Jones's messages. However the crowning glory for MON since he has been here was to persuade Campbell to rebuff Rangers and Celtic and remain with us. That was some result.
My big hope is that MON can pull off some miracles in the transfer market in the summer. It's an obvious statement to make but only a stellar window where he brings in 3/4 players who significantly improve our first xi will get us in the promotion shake up. The fans forum was very enlightening and fair play to the panel for answering most of the questions but the one on recruitment continues to worry me. The process and the recruitment team/ scouting network needs major surgery. My take from the fudged answer is that we are going to continue with the manager shouldering the majority of the burden. I am not convinced he has the contacts and the reach to find the gems we need, he knows Scotland but that's about it. We need more reach and MON needs help. Summer will be fascinating.

Well the bookies on average have us at 16/1... that's pretty long odds in betting terms. The nearest to us is Huddersfield at 8/1. Of course the odds will change but currently few fancy us to go down.

Rowett is clearly an ok manager at this level but I would be surprised if he ever got a team promoted from the champs. I thought that at the time we appointed him. It seemed a safe but uninspiring option and his pathetic attempt at the playoffs to draw his way to the final should have raised a red flag. But its clear we do as little due diligence over choosing a manager as we do over recruiting players. That Forest v Millwall is a game between potential playoff candidates only irks me even more that we have bumbled our way through 2 seasons at this level. Any decently organised team with a reasonably astute manager can get to the playoffs in this league and this is typified by Preston always being there or thereabouts under Neil. WBA leeds and Fulham have been the standout teams with Brentford also impressing....the rest are absolutely bang average or poor and I include ourselves in this category. It will be the same next season with a couple of the relegated teams near the top the rest will be ordinary again. Exceptional summer recruitment will be needed by MON to raise ourselves above the dross, has he got the contacts and do we have the scouting network able to find players beyond NI squad players or Scottish Prem players...I have serious doubts.

Forest are wank. Really wank. Quite how they are in the top few is stranger than a vale fan taking a shower Couldn't agree more have watched them a few times on tv and I remain baffled at how they are in the playoffs

Some bizarre statements here Bayern....totally inadequate in the league? Maybe you should seek the opinions of Liverpool fans who watched him week in week out and was their player of the season. His goals record of 1 in 4 from midfield isn't eclipsed by many. Also check out his wiki page and see the list of accolades he's achieved. 'Woefully inadequate in the league' is a view that's not shred by many and you can understand why accusations of agenda get suggested. I hope ex players like Gerrard and Lampard get to the very top in Management, in good to see english coaches succeed. Also massive budget in Scotland? Last summer he probably spent 10m on transfers!Once again court the opinion of Rangers fans to see how many think he is a failure. I meant trophy wise. Ie fuck all. It's a massive budget in Scotland true he never managed to win the league and only a couple of domestic cups to show for his time there so fair point...but woefully inadequate? Rangers have to compete with Celtic who spent 9m on just one player and have a much bigger budget in fairness to Gerrard he has closed what was a huge gap in a relatively short space of time.If he stays I think he will get them very close Maybe you have one thing right as he is fairing better than Celtic in Europe but not domestically

A trifle harsh, Bayern. He was an excellent player and I'm not sure Pep could do anything meaningful with what he has to work with. I agree with Rob's assessment tbh. And his budget in Scotland is massive. He's a complete failure up there. Some bizarre statements here Bayern....totally inadequate in the league? Maybe you should seek the opinions of Liverpool fans who watched him week in week out and is a genuine legend. His goals record of 1 in 4 from midfield isn't eclipsed by many. A lot will hinge on if and when Nuno departs, they have a fantastic recruitment advantage over other clubs with Mendes' contacts. There's absolutely no way any other club signs Ruben Neves in the second tier. They have very ambitious and committed owners, a growing brand worldwide and a very good side. They could really benefit from the fracturing of the traditional top 6 in the years to come. They're not plucky up and comers and that's why it's very possible this is more than just a flash in the pan. I personally don't think it's a bubble at all, it's a lot of hard work and intelligence coming to fruition. They've achieved everything West Ham et al. have been trying to do for the past 10 years in 2 seasons. 100% agree with this and even though I have no affection for Wolves it's been an impressive rise. It's been based on a strategy that our conservative stodgy board would never recognise let alone implement. If, and it's a big if, they can keep the manager and recruitment structure in place for a few more years they could well emulate Leicester, not winning the Prem, but being recognised as one of the best of the rest with regular Euro forays....lucky them

What a daft opening post Its exactly one year since Liverpool failed to score at home. they also turned around a 3-0 deficit against Barca last season so it will be a breeze.

I hadn't realised he was 'a darling' of Belsa's. Maybe if Leeds are awash with money if they get promoted, then Bielsa might be tempted to rekindle his past love affair fingers crossed

They sent on Viera to shore things up. We sent Pugh on to save the day. And that says it all. That particular point underlines the size of the achievement of TP to get that squad of players that far in a national cup, the cup that all want to win too, the f.a cup It also helped that we got extremely lucky with the draw all the way through the competition...Cardiff Wolves Brighton West ham hardly tough and of course Bolton when we could have drawn the shit or ManCity in the semi. Not complaining though all but the best need a bit of luck with the draw. It was a major contributing factor to getting there.

After appeal as in many sporting bans the punishment will get reduced. UEFA doubled the ban to 2 years based on Man City perceived lack of co-operation. That charge will be impossible to uphold. The fudge will be a one season ban at most. It will be more interesting to see how the Premier League react with a possible points reduction. My cynical view us that they will be lenient and impose just a fine. It's one of the so called big 6 remember🤔
