He is a class act there's no doubt about it. Bizarre that he has his critics. His goal was a perfect example of how good he is, anticipated a second faster than two defenders around him to nip in between them and bury the chance.

I don't get the hatred by some fans against Hughes. He definitely gave us some of the best nogger since the 70's. It wasn't all good but there were some amazing times while he was here. Maybe we might have been relegated had he not been sacked, but I doubt it. Personally I think we might have scraped enough points with him to have avoided relegation. He should have been sacked at the end of the season but the main reason we went down is because we made the wrong appointment after Hughes was sacked. OS. Nicely put OS and my view to a tee. Hughes also gets little praise for the speed in which he changed the side he inherited playing Pulisball, and turned them into an attacking side who at times played stunning football not seen since the Waddo years. I will be forever grateful for such good times and so he gets my respect.

Weird how the higher placed finishes post-Pulis seem to have dropped under the radar..... Yep. "...they tried to get clever, they tried to get fancy, and they ended up getting relegated." It seemed to me the drop in form started when Hughes bottled it and STOPPED trying to get clever and fancy. But also the board believing in the fantasy that you can be self sufficient in the PL and survive. Here's a great idea 'lets sell our best player (Arnie) and replace him with a loan and a freebie' all in the name of self sufficiency. Crazy!!

Arguably the most technically gifted footballer on our books. Our best form in years has been with him at no 10. Clever player and, despite what the idiot who sits behind me thinks, is not a lazy player. Yes he can drift in and out a game but so can others in his position. Long may his form continue! To answer the OP 's question this is the reason why he will always divide opinion and will be a favourite with some and a frustration to others. Just like Arnie and Shaq did when they were here. Even more surprisingly Huddy divided opinion also. All gifted individuals who could do things other players couldn't. On a personal note I loved Arnie Shaq and Huddy, they all had flaws but boy could they play and its for this reason that Powell is by some distance the player my eyes are always drawn to when I am watching the Potters.

Fantastic news and I am surprised I thought he would jump ship. Seems like the manager has played a blinder here. Just hoping our CEO hasn't included some daft clause as is his wont.

Should be a no-brainer for Campbell really. He probably isn't good enough to be a regular premier league striker so his options are Stick with Stoke and spend his prime years knocking around mid-table championship or Play under Gerrard with regular european games and high profile derbies v Celtic and win some medals? Easy choice surely. And before someone comes on and says yeah but for every Celtic match there are away trips to Ross County.... there is every possibility of a Wycombe v Stoke fixture next year

My predictions are usually on the negative side but my prediction outcome was Stoke 13th 53pts! relegated Huddersfield Wigan Luton Lets hope so

if it pushed Ince further down the pecking order I am all for that. Verlindenand Ngoy have good cameos but they were just cameos so it's hard to know if they will repeat it on a regular basis. I am convinced to ensure safety we need an improvement to our starting xi

It's great to see so many posters changing their minds about Powell. Lots of comments were made about him being lazy not wanting to be here and even feigning injury so as not to play....all absolutely bizarre and only on a message board The reality is that he has always been a very talented footballer and its not hard to see why so many people who know more than us rate him. I think his 'sick note' label is unfair and actually inaccurate. At Wigan he managed 39 and 32 games over the last two seasons before he joined us. He can get injured but clearly he takes a bit of punishment during games but the secret must be for the physios and medics to manage him correctly like they clearly did at Wigan.

Seriously no more aging ex prem players we have been there before. We are not short of experience in the squad get some young hungry and ambitious players in with something to prove.

I think we have a lot of players who need competitive games to develop. They can't all play in the Championship every week Tend to agree with you spit and I never understand this ok to lose mentality. It has no benefit. The liklihood is we would only play one maybe two more cup games if we had won today, it's hardly going to threaten the players stamina. And as you say there are quite a number of fringe players who can get match sharp and mon can assess them in a competitive game. Now neither of those things can happen.

The loan strategy from Jones was a complete disaster and totally wrong. what works best in the Champs is finding young ambition premier league fringe players eager to make a mark. Jones strategy was to loan players that had already achieved promotion from the Champ. He stated often that this player or that player knew how to win promotion. What he didn't grasp was that such players after a hard slog in the Championship were looking forward to a season in the prem. Can't be very motivating to be dumped back into the drudgery that is the Championship. No wonder Hogan and Duffy seemingly just sat back and couldn't be arsed, they were never going to bust a gut for the team. So I hope the lessons have been learnt with the next foray into the loan market.....but not holding my breath

9 just drops a point for the choice of CBs but I guess without Ryan he doesn't have too many options. I was delighted when I saw the team and hoped that arguably 2 of our most talented players in Campbell and Powell rose to the occasion, and boy did they!!! Big calls from what looks increasingly like a seriously smart manager

It is clearly why seperate sections should be brought back for those wanting to sit and those wanting to stand. But such is the mentality of footie fans people will still stand even if they are in a 'seating' area thats the way sadly. All you need is someone to stand in the first row and refuse to sit and then its like a reverse domino effect where everyone has to stand. I am in a minority I know but I don't really get the preference for standing.

His stats this season is proof that we need much better if the manager sticks with his favoured 'front three'......one goal and one assist!!! Christ on a bike for a regular key attacking option that is simply awful.

The championship continues to mystify. I mean how the hell have they managed to win eleven games and are in play off contention. There was nothing good about them, lacked an edge up front no creativity and 26 fouls underline their style of play. And they got lucky with their two goals. Sadly it just increases the frustration that we haven't been able to put together even a half decent team that could perform consistently.
