Being a keen dangler myself, I was hoping that those who also enjoy this noblest of sports, may like to subscribe to this thread by offering any useful snippets of information on all matters angling. This can be fish reports, club information, fishing holidays, fishing abroad, tackle shop info, etc....
So here goes....
As usual I'll start..
For any Barbel fanatics out there who fancy combining a weeks fishing with a family holiday abroad then my advice would be to try the River Dordogne in south west France. The area is one of the most picturesque regions of France and the fishing is absolutely excellent. The licences cost 18 Euros and you can fish in the whole of the South of France for a fortnight.
Good clubs round this area I would recommend are Stoke Angling Association, Derby Railwaymen, Northwich Angling Association. My largest Barbel to date is a 12lb fish caught in Jan 2004 on the river Dove.
Get the idea...?

If you ever fish the mere in Alsager, use mature cheddar cheese on a size 10 hook with 2 lb breaking strain line with a quill float and not much shot.. The roach and bream fucking love it!

I've fished Rudyard many times although it was many years ago. It's a stoney bottom and is deeply shelving towards the Dam end. It's what you might call a mixed coarse lake with a decent head of fish which can be approached by either the Feeder method or by Waggler. There is a good head of bream with red maggot/worm being the obvious preferred baits and using a groundbait feeder. There is also pike in there up to 30 lbs and the odd carp or two, but I can't speak with much experience on the Carp front as I haven't fished it for a number of years.Infact the last time I fished it I had hair and teeth and could also see my feet without having to lean over..

at last a fishing thread!!
My new years resolution was to do more Carp fishing this year, haven't been yet due to the frost but looking to get going in the next month or so, Last summer i spent a lot of time at baden Hall in Eccleshall fishing on the top with dog biscuits, not much under 10lbs there and its a good buzz to see a big carp come up and take the bait!
Any Stafford stokies out there fished Cannock chase? theres supposed to be some big carp in one of the pools there and im going with a mate of me old mans who fished it a bit, anyone tried here?
Speaking of carp fishing, i watched the Passion For Angling special on tv about Redmire last week, god that place looked amazing!! Wish i could justify spending £300 for a week there!!

How much are the tickets..>? not fished it for a while, a syndicate of fishing clubs have got the rights to the lake so it depends which club you buy a permit from. biddulph anglers was about £26 last year. don't think you can have a day ticket though.

A good club to join is " The Red house" Fishing club. 4 or 5 ponds with loads of carp in them, three stretches of rivers with good chub and barbel in them and I think they have got some canal too. Its only about 35 pounds for year

Anyone done much fishing on the trent or Severn.?
I used to go for Barbel at Buildwas, just above Ironbridge on a Telford and district Anglers day card.
I caught one or two in the 4-7 lb bracket, although there are double figure fish in the stretch...

There are two lots of railings one near the chippy and one over the far side for public access We used to fish it when we were kids.
I used to do plenty of Barbel fishing on the Severn and the Dane. Used hair rigged luncheon meat, with hemp and casters in a feeder. Worked a treat.

THE DANE around Middlewich has produced some double figure Barbel in the past, but there was a major pollution incident about 3 or 4 years ago which resulted in many fish deaths and it is taking time to recover. That said luncheon meat is a fantastic bait both for the Barbel and Chub.I've caught chub upto 5lb on the Rudheath stretch which is run by Northwich anglers and they also have some some excellent Carp waters at both big and little Billinge. Northwich also have several miles of the river Weaver for the mixed coarse fraternity and also have open matches on Saturdays which are always well subscribed. For anyone wanting further details regarding their club there is also a web-site you can look at.
On a different note,..for those new to the sport, or even those of us who are keen to learn more about Carp fishing and its more complex techniques then I would strongly recommend a series on Sky Sports called "Thinking Tackle", which is a great programme to watch if you want to observe the experts divulge the latest tips and baits to try. It's main focus is on the different tactics to employ depending on the venue and goes into great detail about the set-up of different terminal tackle and rigs.It is without doubt the most authoritative and meticulous fishing programme I've seen for this fishing purist,..An excellent programme.

I fished it many years ago but I can't remember whether I caught or not. With a lot of these big Cheshire Meres the best tips is to get as much local knowledge as you can, and try the most worn pegs first.Pre-baiting a spot with particle baits or Halibut pellets normally works quite well with a pop-up boilie on the terminal tackle.
Some guys like to put a handfull of maggots over the area you are fishing too.My preference is to use pva mesh bags full of pellets and a hair rigged tutti fruiti pop-up boilie
