14 August 2010 was the first time Ryan Shawcross wore the permanent captain's armband.
We might have lost that day to Wolves, but what a five year spell we've had under him.
Well done Ryan, and hope to see you back soon.

Think we've wore red & white at Spurs every season apart from the 3-1 defeat on a Tuesday night. That horrible yellow top, red shorts & blue socks combination. And guess who wrote about that match earlier today...

Yep, that sounds about right baystokie. Dad remembers a picture of Dennis Herod in The Sentinel from the 50's, but probably couldn't tell you who scored in the 6-1 against Liverpool! I think he really enjoyed recounting his early Stoke supporting days! We'll be waiting quite a while, I think...

And here we have it (for the four or so people who care!!), the final part of Post-War Potters. "As the dismal season progressed, survival was down to the last game." Is this something you'd like to see more of? Is anybody interested...?!

Here's a look at the match through the eyes of four Stokies. Three of them predict a draw, one thinks we'll lose.

He's going to score a hat-trick at Kenilworth Road.
His signing is an astute one. It puts Diouf under real pressure to perform early on in the season. Looking forward to him getting some minutes on the pitch, although I think Diouf will start the next two matches (barring a nightmare performance at WHL/injury/suspension).

Part two of the series is now online. "A huge crop of local youngsters joined Stoke at the start of the war and it was largely these that made up the team that missed out on the league Championship in 1947 by losing the last game at Sheffield United, manager Bob McGrory having sold Stanley Matthews to Blackpool the previous month– that is how a manager can lose a club trophies." Thanks for a trip down memory lane. I started watching in February 1947 - and that season still hurts. One fact, however, that still gets repeated but shouldn't is that FRANK Mountford was NOT born in Stoke-on-Trent but near Doncaster. Strangely enough, the other Mountford, George, was also a foreigner, from Kidderminster. Thanks for that information, although he did move to Stoke-on-Trent as a kiddie. I'll give Dad a slap round the face next time I see him! Good to see you saw them back then too...been a few rollercoasters since!

They're extremely fortunate that they've just had a load of cash from the Raheem Sterling deal.

Is it better to rely on one player to score the goals (who is one bad tackle away from being out for the season) or a myriad of players chipping in?
I know what I prefer and it's exactly where Stoke's squad sits at the moment.
We've got five or six players who could get double figures (I stress could!)

To be honest man, first game of the season is practically a warm up. Look at Arsenal getting taken apart by West Ham. The season really starts now. Players will be getting fitter and the games will start coming. For me, it's important we give Spurs a good game. I would like 3 points, but considering they've improved significantly since last year, I'd take a point. That was my point in the article. "A season is a marathon, not a sprint, and nothing is ever won on the opening day.
Look at Chelsea. Last year’s title winners made a defensive substitution to hold on to a point at home to Swansea City on Saturday.
Stoke have managed just fine in the Premier League era, and have gone on to finish ninth having lost 1-0 to Liverpool and Aston Villa in the last two campaigns."No doom and gloom here! Great stuff, Davef. Love that! I'll be putting an article on my site later that looks at our opening away days in the Premier League...

I'm not ashamed to say that I was so excited about his signing that I raced down to the Mich to see his first training session. He had the skills, but wasn't what our team required at the time. He would be far more suited to the current day Stoke City.
Looking forward to seeing him and Simmo on telly later this year!

We've now lost 1-0 on the opening day three times in a row. On the last two occasions we've gone on to finish ninth. If Stoke were to finish in the top half again it would be the first time we've managed it consecutively since the 1930's.
