It's farcical that people think they have a right to know exactly what is going on with a terrorist investigation at any given point - not that anyone here has said that, but it's rife on X. The investigation into the Manchester Airport incident is still ongoing and no doubt will involve security services both in the UK and overseas. We know that four men remain on police bail as the Major Incident Team continues to investigate the alleged criminal offenses. The complexity of the case means that the police are taking their time to ensure a thorough investigation. The Crown Prosecution Service (CPS) is also involved, carefully reviewing all of the evidence before deciding precisely what they can and cannot be charged with.

Couldn’t find the original thread, so thought I’d start a new one Why on earth are we still awaiting an outcome to these attacks? I read this morning that Mr Farage is mounting a private prosecution. The whole saga just strikes me as very odd, nearly 4 months on and it’s like it never happened

Carefully reviewing evidence🤔 and complex issues🤷🏼♂️ For me an attack on an airport is as serious as it gets, and a message needs to be sent out that this is completely unacceptable There must be cctv everywhere in that airport so what more evidence are they collecting?

With any luck, they have been chained up in Fritzl's cellar along with their lawyer since the 2nd video was released.

Absolutely disgusting that this hasn't concluded. Its absurd how some of the very same posters who were on the whole "they need to be sent a message so should be thrown behind bars immediately" vibe when it came to white "rioters" protesting/tweeting, are very much in the camp of "let the police do their job as the case is clearly very complex" when it comes to two young Pakistani men caught on video in front of the world kicking the fuck out of female (and male) police officers at Manchester Airport.
The double standards are not even subtle anymore. Then again, these are the same characters who criticised the Tories daily for exactly the same shit that they are quick to defend the current government for.

The original posts were on the “Met police” thread. I’ve just had a read through, it’s quite interesting to read back through it tbh Still don’t understand why this case is still going on, and the usual reply’s on here don’t really answer the question, just waffle

I can see where it may take some time but not this long it’s getting ridiculous now. As you say there’s a lot of hypocrisy and double standards. Because of its impact on the press and communities you’d have thought it’d be rushed through if anything.

I agree with your overall assessment of why the CPS are being cautious, have the IOPC even completed both investigations into the Brothers and the role of the Police. As the latter are likely to be witnesses against the former if charges are brought, if not all ducks are in a row it could turn into a circus. The Harehills situation was quite different and fueled by false Social Media rumours, 4 involved have now been gaoled for between 3 and 6 years.

After replying to Ian I decided to check The average length of time between IOPC commencing an investigation and a charging decision being made is 9 months and 15% taking more than a year I agree with Ian's point (if I haven't misrepresented) if it goes to Court and there is a fuck up there could be massive repercussions, in fact no matter the verdict. www.gov.uk/government/publications/independent-office-for-police-conduct-public-body-review-2024/independent-review-of-the-independent-office-for-police-conduct-iopc-accessible-version

Average length of cases dealt with by Crown courts in the Greater Manchester Police area was 83 weeks. www.police.uk/pu/your-area/greater-manchester-police/performance/case-length/So had they dealt with it already, it would have been exceptionally fast. Let everyone involved do their job. This isn’t America where convicted criminals get off free depending on their wealth or power. Those complaining about these men not yet being dealt with are generally supportive of Trump. Hypocrisy.

And they then need to deal with the criminal case against the accused. That on average takes 83 weeks in greater manchester.

Fair point. They could still however - remand them till the hearing. I’d say there’s enough evidence to do that. - prioritise the investigation. I think the argument is the inconstancy around some investigations being completed in a lot less time than others or the way the media put slants on stories. Consistency is key.

Yep, and on average this should take 83weeks in the Crown Court, and that’s when there isn’t a police complaint. Which directly comparable cases have been dealt with faster or in a different way?

Has the IOPC investigation not delayed proceedings? Concluding quickly should never supersede making sure justice is served either despite the temptation. I can’t comment on the hypocrisy accusation as I was critical of some of the sentences dished out to people rioting/protesting despite me fundamentally disagreeing with a lot of their actions……

I think the argument is the inconstancy around some investigations being completed in a lot less time than others or the way the media put slants on stories. Consistency is key. Surely you know you can't be remanded in custody without being charged, which is the whole issue and then it would be for a judge to decide. Id be very surprised if the investigation isn't being given very high priority There are Two Policemen under Criminal Investigation one before arrest and one after. I'm not aware that IOPC have completed those investigations never mind CPS made a charging decision. At least one if not both could be prosecution witnesses. It's complicated and there is a big responsibility on IOPC and CPS to get it right. There is a hell of a difference between people being charged, pleading guilty and being sent to Gaol. No-one in this case has put there hand up, far from it. A recent case discussed on here, it was just over a year before Martyn Blake was charged with Murder of Chris Kaba and a further 13 months befit came to trial. Therefore I see no inconstancy, the Criminal Justice System grinds slowly. You well know depending on which Media you read you can predict the slant of the story, this is hardly new.

As an absolute minimum they should be behind bars as we speak shouldn't they while they await their sentencing? In well over 90% of countries around the world, the scum bags involved would have been shot dead within a couple of seconds so they can count themselves incredibly fortunate to be alive. If this attack had happened in the location of their flight departure, it would have been a different story for them. Re the obvious hypocrisy, you were not someone who came to mind given your criticism of both previous and current governments along with critique around the whole tweeting sentencing madness.
