I’ve always thought this, but the rot within the club started with the Coates family and can be traced right back to our demise from the prem. there was absolutely no reason a stable club as we once were to fall as far as we have done without the ownership being at the core of it.
They have done great, but they are now the problem and things will only get worse until they either sell entirely, or John Coates gets out of the club and gets someone to run it for him.
People need to realise the common denominator here

They’ll never understand just how bad it is and how far they’ve pushed people until people finally decide to make a point at games by either not going at all and them look at a empty abyss of a stadium or get down to the CW or bet365 and make a point because today for me, and by the looks of it and listening to us poor fuckers who are coming back from the northern cesspit slum, is the final straw. JC has proven time and time and time again he hasn’t got what it takes to be in charge of Stoke and he’s not going to just leave on his own accord so here’s hoping Golem gets a nice push out the door

He's no doubt a fan, he no doubt cares. There's also no doubt he is THE one constant presiding over all of this. Yet his local status seems to keep him immune from criticism from certain sections of the fan base.
Free coach travel is great, a fanzone is great, a nice sports bar is great, safe standing is great. However I couldn't give two fucks about any of this if the direction of the actual club is continually regressing. No one can argue that the club has not gone backwards since 2018 when he took more control.
He might have loads of cash. He might have spent lots of cash but much of his spending has been to mop up the mistakes that he keeps making. How is it acceptable to come down from the Premier League 6 years ago and not finish in the top half of the table once, nevermind get anywhere near the play offs.
A less wealthy owner but with a real head for business and able to bring a successful long term defined structure and plan would not need to have spent as much money as JC has.
Clearly I'm just a punter so I'm not connected in football circles so I don't know who else is out there who would buy the club but by Christ, it's not hard to spot where the problem is.

He dosn't need to sell just get somone in who knows how to run a football club .Not some chancers who want to get their nose in his cash,He loves the club and so do his kids and on paper is the perfect owner.

The club is in a perfect state of symbiosis wherein Coates’ money means that we’re too flush to absolutely fail as we pretty much deserve to after nearly 10 years of bad decisions but also nothing will ever change whilst the clown is in charge of the place.
This thread has been played out on here for years which probably tells you a lot.

Ultimately if he didn't bare the Coates name, he wouldn't be near the footballing business in any role simple as. His legacy was already defined by allowing a £50m war chest to be blown by Rowett that set us back years.

We managed to be a mid table Division 1 side under the Icelandics with no money and there are plenty of clubs in this division who are outperforming us year after year with far fewer resources. We’ve spent hundreds of millions to go from being a stable Premier League team into annual relegation contenders in the Championship. That takes a crazy level of incompetence and the idea that only someone with the same amount of money could do better isn’t borne out by reality. |
