Who decided on his return has he any connection with the new head coach They were at Huddersfield together There wasn't a crossover at Huddersfield He left in 2019. Pelach arrived with Corberan in the summer of '20. He seems to suggest they know each other somehow, and his keeper coach, Clements, was with him at Huddersfield, so has probably given him a good reference. It's possible it's a Pelach pick, but seems feasible it was Walters. Don't suppose we'll ever know Pelach said: "I’m very happy that Dean Whitehead is here, he’s a good coach. He has experience as a footballer, he’s a great human being and he’s willing to do everything for the football club. He’s a great addition. he was asked how his path had crossed with Whitehead, who joins Stoke from Barnsley after previous coaching spells at Shrewsbury, Cardiff, Watford, Besiktas and, whisper it, Port Vale, where he won promotion to League One alongside Darrell Clarke, now at Barnsley. Pelach said: "I worked at Huddersfield where he had been as a player and he was well respected. People and players always talked about him very well. Then he was at Cardiff and Watford and as coaches we were always seeing each other then one day we got to know each other and here we are. We will get to know each other even more now."

Just read that Fuller, it does look, despite what Palach says, Walters recruited him and Pelach must have been happy to work with him, like it or not🤔

His coaching career is very patchy to say the least

It's probably a joint decision between Pelach, Walters and potentially Coates (depending how involved he gets). Similar to most other decisions including transfers etc.
Although a lot of people want to pin club decisions on a singular person, they are joint decisions 99% of the time.

Not a chance in hell he’s the manager pick,
It’s a Walters pick and he’s gone along with it.

It's possible Pelach didn't have anyone else in mind as a first team coach in his circle who ticked the boxes. Clements seems to be his most trusted lieutenant, who's likely to have a bigger remit here than GK coach - and he seems to get on well with Whitehead. He's got his pro licence and has certainly had a varied career in a short space of time. He impressed Ismael enough to take him to Besiktas and Watford and the ex Vale manager has been back for him too at Barnsley, and I haven't seen anyone say a bad word about him. And Hudson took him to Cardiff after working with him at Huddersfield www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/634933825"I've worked with him before. He's just been at Besiktas which shows his top qualities and he's a good coach and a good human being." "He's got a lot to add to our coaching unit."

Its a Walters pick.
Assume he'll also pick the team tonight.
And if Pelach doesn't win his first 10 games in charge, he'll be in line for the chop.
I think that's how it works now.

His credentials are as good as most.
Pèlach has a link to him through his assistant Clement.
Walters and Coates know him and can vouch for his character.
I don’t see the problem here. There seems to be an element on this board who are immediately anti anything to do with Pulis. So in turn Walters and Whitehead are the enemy. It’s weird. We are clearly trying to change the structure away from spending fortunes poaching other clubs managers who then want to bring in all of their own coaching staff and sign a number of their ex players which rarely work out. If we can create a new structure where we avoid all that and don’t continue spanking millions of pounds on it I am all for it.
Any new head coaches that come in look like they will be expected to work with the players we have and play a system that suits them. No doubt they will be able to bring in 1 or 2 key assistants but otherwise we will have a core structure of staff and coaches in place that will provide continuation. It looks like progress to me and a clear move away from the old structure that has been failing.

I think that's how it works now. that's probably a bit flippant however I do think it's fair to be concerned at whether Walters has or will be crossing the line if the DoF insists on certain players playing then the Head Coach has no chance If that's not the case then fine however are we going to be sacking Head Coaches if they lose a few games? if so we will end up making Watford look loyal I think its more probable that Walters has selected Whitehead for the simple reason that we know that Walters knows him having played in the same team as him

Too many people are looking for conspiracy theories to suit their agendas IMO. I think its more probable that Walters has selected Whitehead for the simple reason that we know that Walters knows him having played in the same team as him So its nothing to do with his coaching credentials then? Supposedly well thought of in the game and as a character is someone that Walters knows.

It looks like progress to me and a clear move away from the old structure that has been failing. It’s all going a big mental. I get the concern at Schumacher being booted. I get the concern at the new man’s lack of experience. But this stuff about some kind of Walters driven plot to infiltrate the club from top to bottom with the ex Pulis boys is batshit bonkers. Literally every club does it and particularly with players who were actually successful (don’t forget the like of Shawcross, Whitehead, Fuller were involved in our best years since the 70s). Now having said that I have heard a rumour that Danny Pugh has got a gig on one of the Boothen turnstiles and Carl Dickinson has been touted as a potential burger flipper in the new fanzone. If this turns out to be true then I’m falling in with the conspiracy theorists and donning my tin foil hat.

He is his pick unlike Schumacher. I'm pretty sure that the decision on Whitehead was made jointly by Walters and Pelach with probably a bit of feedback from Clement. It's worth saying that as Pelach has not had a Head Coach position before, he doesn't have an existng team to bring with him.

Supposedly well thought of in the game and as a character is someone that Walters knows. would suggest both Whitehead reputation warrants him getting a coaching job but no more than many other coaches, therefore he's got the job (rather than any one of the many other coaches out there) because Walters wants someone in who he knows to help Chico don't really have a an issue with this by the way just stating what it looks like

Walters will need friends at the club in the coming months. The honeymoon period is over for him now. That sounds threatening ? Would you and other fans be as disturbed if it had been Pelach introduces Bojan and Muni, it would fit the Walters conspiracy theories, they are both ex-players and friends it would be a crowd pleaser and make Walters a Saint for the time being. But he hasn’t done that, he’s had the balls either to back the coaches decision or helped in the process of picking Dean Whitehead, a often maligned player under TP but though he might have lacked the skill he more than made up for in determination, grit and fitness. Now I am not 100% certain but I thought most of the ex-Stoke players involved in the club’s coaching team were originally on a voluntary basis but are now working for the club on a full time basis and I believe many before Jon Walters even returned to the club ? I think they all have the correct qualifications, badges and experience and I believe they all love the club and fans that deeply that they have succumbed to the same addiction that we the fans have, they don’t need to be here they could easily knocking a golf ball around or checking the latest stock market figures, they are here because they want to give something back

Im not against whitehead per se, but I’m a bit concerned about so many ex Stoke players being coaches here. It could become a bit of a clique and a single voice that the HC is outside of.
I’d prefer more diversity and and I think dissenting voices/ different view points are usually key in a coaching set up.
There are some advantages in everyone pushing in the same direction as long is that direction is the right one, let’s hope it is. It’s all a bit one dimensional for me and certainly adding to the risk factor.

I dont believe for 1 minute they will sit like nodding dogs and offer no input at all. But at the end of the day its the head coach who had the final say on team matters.. different viewpoints yes but not dissenting voices that is not what any team in any walk of life needs
