I have nothing against Deano and of course wish him all the best.
My only concern is they haven't worked together in this dynamic before. There have been many "double acts" at clubs over the years, and when a manager moves then he takes his trusted staff along with him. We really are starting from scratch, and I suppose it is a gamble that the personalities all gel together and the whole team works well together.
Let's hope so. WBWY

Worked previously at Besiktas so can’t be terrible. It’s funny reading the comments, I never hear much mention of the other 10-20 coaches and back room staff, that was until now…

Who decided on his return has he any connection with the new head coach Narcis stated at the press conference that Whitehead was his choice and Walters confirmed that

Let’s hope he’s a better coach than he was a player. Dean Whitehead was a much better player than Tony Waddington or Tony Pulis.

Im not against whitehead per se, but I’m a bit concerned about so many ex Stoke players being coaches here. It could become a bit of a clique and a single voice that the HC is outside of. I’d prefer more diversity and and I think dissenting voices/ different view points are usually key in a coaching set up. There are some advantages in everyone pushing in the same direction as long is that direction is the right one, let’s hope it is. It’s all a bit one dimensional for me and certainly adding to the risk factor. Having successful ex-players as part of the coaching set up is sound practice. It underpins club ethos and respect, a desire to bring in a layer of influence who understand what the club is about. It never did Liverpool any harm with its boot room, or Arsenal (Wenger retained the services of Pat Rice and wasn’t Bob Wilson their GK coach alongside his media career?).

I dont believe for 1 minute they will sit like nodding dogs and offer no input at all. But at the end of the day its the head coach who had the final say on team matters.. different viewpoints yes but not dissenting voices that is not what any team in any walk of life needs I think the hint is “it could become” as for dissenting voices, they are crucial in any business when done in a constructive manner.

This was the model people wanted wasn't it?
The staff are hired by the Director of Football/Technical Director...the Head Coach is just one of those staff.

That was probably because he was more successful after leaving us, which meant Bayern could accuse Stoke management of being awful.😜

Whitehead wasn't exactly Pirlo, but he was virtually an ever present in the top flight for both ourselves and Sunderland.

Whitehead was signed for a lot of money for the time and never made the team better despite being given so many chances.

I’m with Bayern on this one, Whitehead was bang average at best, and we spent about £5m on him if I recall correctly, some deal for Sunderland.

I can think of a lot worse we’ve chucked money at. Decent pro in my humble opinion.

Average I can happily go with, and I wouldn't argue that we overpaid either. That's a lot different than being shit though. The bloke ran his bollocks off for us every week. Players like him deserve a bit more credit and respect IMO.

Some players just aren't fancy dan enough for some folk I guess. If he'd had flowing locks and an exotic look he'd've probably been some fans favorite. Good Pro who had a very, very decent stint in the Premier league which shouldn't be knocked but hey?!
