Robyn Cowen is as good as any fellow commentator in what she says but unfortunately has the worst screeching voice that has me wanting to switch off. Surely the BBC know this.

I'm not sexist but I just can't listen to the female commentators and usually turn the sound down during games and just turn it up if there are any goals etc. The male commentators (Clive bloody Tyldesley in particular) are often lousy as well but I can just about tolerate them (all except Clive bloody Tyldesley), but I can't listen to the females.

Eurosport have got a female commentator on their road cycling coverage and she totally ruins it IMO. She seems to know her stuff but she's non-stop and pronounces the Dutch, Belgian and French riders names how they presumably should be pronounced, but her accent and pronunciation makes it almost impossible to understand who's who. I know it sounds odd but she really spoils the coverage.

There is a female commentator on Radio 5 Live. She has to over emphasise every phrase and doesn't really commentate at all, it's just a constant growl.

I switched on to listen to a Euro match the other day and immediately turned off once I heard that she was covering the game.

I swear that if she ever covered a Stoke game I wouldn't listen!

If I watch a game on TV I generally record it.

I'll wait until 20 minutes after the kick off (avoiding any social media and other potential score spoilers) and then watch the recording.

This way I avoid all the punditry and half time clap trap, because at the end of the first half I pause the recording, have a piss, then pour another drink and then fast forward to the start of the second half.

For Portugal v Czech I tried the BBC red button to get the R5L commentary only to find out it was Dion Dublin. So had to watch with the sound down as the screeching woman and Danny Murphy were insufferable. For me the best co-coms so far are Ally Mcoist and Andros Townsend.

I think the ones I’ve really hated so far have been Danny Murphy and Lee Dixon on co-comms.

They both seem to somehow show a lack of understanding of the game and every single time there’s even a basic foul they find themselves backtracking their initial assessment of it when they see a single replay because they were way off.

Ally McCoist is the best co-commentator I’ve seen, he’s really knowledgeable, keeps most of his Scotland bias out of the way and calls things well.

Can’t honestly say I’ve given much notice to the male or female main commentary as being much different except the overexcitement at goals where the female commentators are slightly worse as they seem to be forcing the emotion a little bit more.

I still find Keane entertaining and humerus. Fabregas has been excellent as was Thomas Frank when he came on.
We need to get away from this attitude that just because someone was a top player or played for England they’re going to be a great analyst.

In relation to domestic footy I find on the whole the guys on the Champioship programme far better to listen to

They don’t behave like they’re trying to do standup and having banter and are generally really knowledgable.

I picked up on that to. But it may been poorly worded, I think they meant if his arm was in a different position, his shoulder position would be altered to keep him onside.

I do agree with you though, if he were in that position he could not have had the positional leverage to aim towards goal

Yes Fabregas really knows the game and I like listening to what he has to say but always look at him and think you Arsenal twat 😂 It always seems like Lineker asks him what he thinks and then can't wait to move on though but he does that with everyone.

Townsend has been really good and knowledgeable, really suprised me how good he’s been on co comms. mccoist knows his stuff and also just really enjoys watching the games and would be enthusiastic even if he was watching us.

Sam Matterface is the worst. By a country mile. I dont mind female commentators per se, they are as good/bad as male ones. Agree with middleofboothen, Championship guys seem decent Murray et al. There is a lot more dross though....Aluko, Keown etc etc. The best co-comms is McCoist. FACT

A lot of the current lot of commentators seem to be anticipating a 'Wolstenholme' moment like they've prepared a line to use in the match they're doing.

Tyler's "Aguerooooooo" is the last time something captured the moment that most people remember I reckon.
