According to the Interweb "A turnover is a baked good made from puff pastry that's filled with cooked fruit and is sealed by turning the dough over onto itself. Strudels, on the other hand, have a dough that's stretched wildly thin. A filling is then layered in and the pastry is rolled." I feel enlightened, although maybe we shouold start calling them Apple Transitions instead? Turnovers for the LGBTQ community lol. OK agreed, the LGBTQ+, you forgot the + or did you 🤔😂, don't want anything stretched thin! 😜 Shush, you. I'm trying to keep all the apple transitions for myself

I am absolutely for equality and accept that women will carry out the roles within all sectors of football that once were the reserve of men.
The BBC have made a political decision to recruit women in positions that expose them on TV. In my opinion, the BBC has targeted women for employment. Targeting is illegal. So, with the rush to recruit women, they have chosen inferior commentators and so-called experts. When they talk about tactics and what players should be doing, it is quite obvious they do not have the knowledge their male colleagues have, and sometimes it is embarrassing. I look forward to the day when, I don't notice what sex a commentator is, or I can listen to a studio discussion and the female member of the team is on par with their male colleagues. I honestly do look forward to those days. I haven't heard complaints about female commentators commentating on golf, or tennis, or cricket, or horse racing, or even Formula 1. But it has taken time and effort for these women to reach a good standard, as it has done for men.

State of them 🤣🤣

Oh good! Another thread complaining about female commentators (many of which are indeed not very good) when the vast majority of male commentators are also rubbish. Can we not just have a thread complaining about the quality of the commentary in general instead of singling out the women all the time? There a handful of decent commentators, some male, some female. Same goes for pundits. Also it's pretty subjective - I really enjoy Shearer as a co-commentator but many find him annoying. I also think Alex Scott is a great pundit, but again many find her annoying. Let's stop blaming it on gender like we're still stuck in the 70s eh? Some people don’t like female commentators, end of story. They have a right to their opinion. Why do you have a problem with it?

But it has taken time and effort for these women to reach a good standard, as it has done for men. Targeting has always happened in football. How many former players get put on tv just because they’ve played for a club? Most of the time, they offer nothing but they are there because they attract additional viewers. Edit: www.cnn.com/2024/06/19/sport/tiger-woods-pga-tour-qualification-route-spt-intl/index.html and here is Tiger Woods getting chances to play in tournaments he couldn’t otherwise qualify for because it attracts increased viewership. Businesses make business decisions. They care about “wokeness” if it drives up their revenue. I think it’s odd that people see it in any other light.

This tournament has to go down as having some of the worst pundits in a long time. Martin Keown sounds bored, Lee Dixon offers nothing, Danny Murphy talks over everyone. If they can just give them all to Ally McCoist?

What about mid block and high block? Mate when we were defending for our lives in the prem we were just a negative team and "parking the bus" But nowadays it is perfectly acceptable, or even tactically astute to play a "low block" Which as far as I can see means "parking the bus"?? Maybe bus drivers or possibly buses were offended!!!! Honestly, thanks for this. I had absolutely no idea what low block meant. I just nodded thoughtfully whenever anyone said it.

What's transition? Most of the female commentators and pundits love this word. Where you're wearing a frock but haven't had your cock cut off yet?

Businesses make business decisions. They care about “wokeness” if it drives up their revenue. I think it’s odd that people see it in any other light. Which isn’t right either. The best commentators and analysts historically are those that have no previous history of playing the game or were pretty average at it but have a background in media Jimmy Hill, Barry Davies, Martin Tyler or from the current crop Chappers, Gabby Yorath or Kelly Dalglish. Get the right people in the right roles rather than pigeon holeing them for diversity purposes and you’ll have a far more polished product that people want to watch. I’m all for people being given a chance and there’s some excellent female commentators in cricket and golf but they’re like chalk and cheese in comparison to football with the skills required and the speed of thought. I’m sure there is an element of people being set in there ways and that may well change in time but do it gradually and subtely rather than force feeding it which is what I think is the main reason for putting peoples backs up. You only have to look at the viewing figures for Dr Who and Disney to see that change isn’t always for the better and what the majority want even if for some it maybe morally.

It's like saying it's ok to not to like Black commentators just because they're Black. Not liking female commentators isn’t necessarily sexist. They are not saying they don’t like women in general so the link to black people and racism doesn’t work. Some people don’t like women commentators for men’s sport. It’s ok.

There's a German lady pops up on Sky Sports Bundesliga as a summariser from time to time - quite knowledgeable and an attractive central European tone but when the game gets exciting or a bit technical her English falters and we get a bit "vee haf vays of making you talk"

Then those people should just keep their opinion to themselves. It's fine to have that opinion but why the need to shout about it? Vegans, weed smokers and drunks are the same. Randomly telling people "i'm high" or "i'm bladdered" like anyone cares or asked them 🤷🏻♂️ You might be able tell that is a pet peeve of mine 😂

What is this 'its my opinion so its got to be ok' nonsense.
For example, if it's sexist, it's sexist. Being 'my opinion' doesn't justify it, or make it good and right!
If it happens to be blatently sexist, then why are folk so surprised it wouldn't be challenged?
There seems to be this ludicrous notion that being challenged to justify something equates with being cancelled. It's nonsense.
Where are the threads on all the lousy 'jobs for the boys' male commentators and co-commentators we have had to endure for decades?
To me its pretty clear, the policy is designed to respond to changing audiences for football, which INCLUDES women!....Surprise, Surprise!!!! It's not just a blokes sport anymore.
Liking/Disliking specific commentators is obviously absolutely fine (whatever their gender) but this thread goes beyond that, quite clearly!
