I know not Stoke related at all other than a story of trying to survive in the Championship after a succession of managers! Amway doco is really well done - really recommend watching #nospoilers

Just watched the first 2 episodes a brilliant watch and a club very similar to ours. The CEO comes accross well. Noticed he’s not there anymore.

Watched this to the end. One of the best documentary’s on footy I’ve ever seen. It really shows how hard it is to get out of a rut after relegation. Coleman comes accross really well as does Johnny Williams. Jack Rodwell comes accross very badly. Highly recommended I’d be interested to know Haways thoughts.

Never been a big fan of Sunderland, but after watching this doco it’s changed my opinion. They’re a club similar to us, although I’d say they were slightly bigger, if you go on fan base and history. Hopefully they’ll get themselves out of this mess.

Couldn't believe my ears when a genuine club scout used 'he's wearing gloves and it's not even cold' as a reason against signing a player.
The lower leagues sadly must be full of people like that.

I agree that gloves are irrelevant to a player's ability, mindset, etc. The gloves just reminded me of him which then reminded me of our really good scouting/transfer team..

I’ve just watched 1/2 hour of the 1st episode and have already drawn massive comparisons with us as a city, the benefits of a relatively successful football team and us as a club (a number of mercenaries recruited) for the last two years in the Premiership.
Will watch the rest in anticipation of more comparisons
Up to now it’s an interesting watch for any foodie fan

Simon Grayson comes across as the most boring, unimaginative person alive.
Strange how even Chris Coleman couldn’t keep that side up. Thought he came across well.
Very good documentary.

I've watched the first two episodes. It' sets up a train wreck quite nicely. But you already feel for their fans.
In the 1990's an Australian Football (AFL) Club Footscray did a movie documentary on their year - it was called Year of the Dogs. A compelling view, given they had a similarly shocking season during the documentary.

Just some other superb football documentaries/series If people are interested.
They Think It's All Rovers: Charts Doncaster's demise and eventual fall into the Conference after 70 years of league football, highlights include Danny Bergara citing Churchill in the dressing room and an attempt to confuse Swansea away by switching player numbers only for Bergara to forget who is who.
Orient For Fiver: Similar to Doncaster, only with a lot more cohesion and less chaos than up North. Jon Sitton's halftime "bring your fu*king dinner" rant shines in this one. Sitton would later become a cabbie.
Chester City: An American Dream: Perhaps the most bizarre among this bunch, the story of Chester City's ill fated ownership under former American Footballer Terry Smith leading to them dropping out of the league. Smith comes across as a nice bloke but is every stereotype of an American sportsman....often found quoting "that's an Automatic penalty!" in games.
Big Ron Manager: A complete and utter train wreck from start to finish. Ron Atkinson rolls in Peterborough to "troubleshoot" for young rookie manager Steve Bleasdale who at the start of filming had won 4 out of 5. Atkinson fails to offer anything of any real value and Bleasdale struggles with his young players and Barry Fry's ego, probably best known for producing the infamous "When it's a battle, yo fu*king battle!" Pretty much no one comes out of this in a positive light, and this was actually Ron's second attempt at "troubleshooting" role after failing to record enough material at Swindon before the manager told him to do one.
They certainly put our current plight into some perspective.

What other club would you like to see a documentary of on Netflix? We've had Man City and now Sunderland. It'd have to be a relatively big name, Newcastle and it's chaos but maybe too similar to Sunderland? Liverpool under Klopp perhaps. I'd like to see one about a lower league club such as Burton or Brentford etc.

My personal preference would be Harrogate Town of the Conference if you look at the job Simon Weaver is doing there and taking them toe to toe with Leyton Orient, Salford’s money, Wrexham’s infrastructure. They look well set and could well be a League club in a few years provided he’s not snapped up.

Lower league wise I’d like to see one on Fleetwood Town, solely because you know Joey Barton will make one or two controversial comments!

What are peoples thoughts on Martin Bain in this documentary? He's been absolutely slated on social media. He's the Chief Executive if you don't know the name.

Very good watch
Chris Coleman, Jonny Williams and George Honeyman come across very well
How Rodwell got another high level contract I will never know.
You could tell the chief executive was so frustrated with the owner through the entire series but it is quite hard to sympathise with someone when there watch and car cost the same as my mortgage.
You do feel a lot of the story has not been told though

What are peoples thoughts on Martin Bain in this documentary? He's been absolutely slated on social media. He's the Chief Executive if you don't know the name. I think at the start he's very much carried away with where he thinks the club should be and that promotion should be the aim. He pretty much throws out all of his scouts' reports on lower league players who would actually want a move to a club like Sunderland and focuses on his list of higher profile names (sound familiar) and then complains no one wants to join or they can't afford to. In episodes 1-3 I thought he was quite arrogant and pretty dismissive of problems that fall well within his purview, he should know better than anyone that the club was in no fit state for a promotion push and should have managed the resources that they had better. However, as it progressed and he visibly shows strain (seriously look at his eyes by the final episode) I felt pretty sorry for him, and his reaction to Rodwell's decision just reinforced it, what does a chief exec do in that circumstance? Knowing this guy has potentially cost people he cares about (the chefs, the kitmen, player liaison etc) their jobs. He also goes out on a limb to land Coleman and conducts himself well for the rest of the documentary. I think when you cut through all his cliches, and his initially bad decisions he did have the best interests of the club at heart. But there's no doubting in my mind he's part of the reason they went down again. He simply failed to realise how sick the club was and by the time he did, it was far too late. I think he wings it a bit in truth.

You do feel a lot of the story has not been told though Yes there was something jarring about him just driving off in his Range Rover following the relegation. Though, probs a bit of clever film-making by contrasting that with what it actually meant to the people of Sunderland.

I think it's brilliant series and you can see why even Coleman couldn't keep them up. I think that job would have been too big for the majority of managers. Their squad, when you compare it to ours this season, was rubbish. Losing Grabban seemed to be a huge issue and that seemed to be Coleman's 'fault' as he wasn't happy at getting subbed off when he arrived.
A lot of them actually seemed like decent professionals and human beings, it was never a case of not trying. Rodwell aside (what a monumental penis - I could have kicked the tele when his phone rang and he said "Do you mind, it's a bit personal this" to the camera. Jumped up fucking tosser) they looked a decent bunch.
