Changed my opinion about Coleman, he's clearly a really genuine guy. Not a good football manager mind. Agree, didn’t realised he had 6 kids either. randy bastard.

Watching Rodwell is like seeing how a lottery winner spend is spare time, what a twat!,Grabban isn't someone you would want in the trenches with you but it was strange how Coleman subbed him every game after an hour winning or not?.I'd actually take a punt on Jonny Williams despite being made of fine china but he does bring somwthing different to the party. I like the look of Williams. Also refreshing to see a player on the screen who clearly gives a shit. While watching it I was thinking ‘reckon he could do a job’ came across a really nice genuine guy who struggles with not playing games. Made out of glass though unfortunately.

We binge watched Sunderland Til I Die and I have to say it’s absolutely one of the best, rawest football documentaries I’ve ever seen. If you’re on the fence about watching it, get off this board now and start streaming - you’ll be glad you did!
I didn’t realise until this doc that Coleman is married to Sky Sports presenter Charlotte Jackson. She grassed up Andy Gray for being a dirty old man, resulting in him being fired from Sky.

I enjoyed it, but it gave limited insights because of what was left out. We saw nothing from the dressing room before, at half time or after the matches. Nor did we hear any of the discussions between the managers and their staff about team selection and tactics, the things we talk about a lot on here. Yes, Coleman came over as a nice guy but he didn't improve on the position left by the dour Simon Grayson. We heard about what happened to Grayson, Coleman, Symons and Bain but not about the people who I thought were the real heroes of the series - the chefs, the kit man, the groundsman and so on. Did they keep their jobs or were they sacked by the new lot?

Are we the next club on netflix's pity list of once being a PL club turned into laughing stock?

Never been a big fan of Sunderland, but after watching this doco it’s changed my opinion. They’re a club similar to us, although I’d say they were slightly bigger, if you go on fan base and history. Hopefully they’ll get themselves out of this mess. 46,000 v Bradford average 32,000 in league one after years of gloom. I would say more than slightly bigger

Just finished watching it and I enjoyed it. Would have loved to see more dressing room action. I must say I had to laugh when Sunderland beat Derby 4-1 when they were playing shithouse and hearing the Derby fans booing Rowett...

Just finished Ep. 2. My American ears need some captions at times, but I'm enjoying it. Hoping it's not going to be a preview of things to come given where they now are.

Massive club in terms of catchment area. I'm going to start watching this one tonight after Vikings.

Clubs size has nothing to do with area and everything to do with who owns it, it's not unlike a franchise. In fact I'd go as far as to say that's exactly what it is, the business'are hardly local (in almost every case)

Thoroughly enjoyed watching this. It gives a real good insight into just how tough it is for a club to operate in extremely difficult times.

It is excellent. The thing that struck me most was the mental fragility of the players. I know they're human beings etc but they've been in competitive environments since they were about 6 years of age and most of them looked like they could burst into tears at any moment.

Not with thousands of people and the media and social media constantly watching you. Yes they are paid millions but it must have an effect.

So far on this thread, Coleman has been described as a randy bastard and having shifty eyes.
(I've not watched the programme yet but I do have Netflix).

Been watching this documentary... can't help but think that we share alot of things that were going on with Sunderland. - high expectations - high wages - need to clear out high earning deadwood - helpless manager (been told to use youth) - cost cutting - 3 or 4 Jack Rodwell comparables?
NJ was obviously brought in to do a rebuild(on the cheap) and I think he will but we are gonna have to see quite a few loses before NJ find his 11 and gets us roaring back next season.
We will do it glad we have a fair amount of points on the board because this squad could get us relegated as it is. So there's that saving grace.

I just finished episode 3 I think where a commentator said something about them being so disjointed and not a team and just individuals playing for themselves...it feels like it’s us.
So many parallels particularly a lot of money spent badly in the premier league.
I don’t think we’re going to go down but I think for those first 3 episodes at least you could replace with the video with a video of our season and the voice over (bar people’s actual names obviously) could stay the same!

I was surprised by just how mercenary the Sunderland players were. It was almost all about themselves.
Lewis Grabban went back to Villa because he didn't like being substituted and was then very happy to come back and score against them.
Darron Gibson thought that the new manager was better because he was starting more games.
Jack Rodwell was Jack Rodwell.
All of that was without hearing from the players out on loan.

I watched it over Xmas & New Year and felt the parallels are worryingly similar.
Swap a disinterested board (Short) for an incompetent one (Stoke) and it's not too hard to imagine a common outcome...

The CEO, Bain, has been slaughtered for it but I didn't think he was that bad. All he was doing was working within Shorts perimeters, what else could he do?
Seemed to have more about him than Teflon Tony
Excellent series

I thought the mcgeady interview leaning on the goalposts was interesting, 'I came here thinking we'd be promotion contenders' then on about Coleman 'he's all happy on the Monday and we go again, we played well in parts on saturday..... We've lost 3-0 again, he should be bloody livid, never known manager be like that'..... Or word to that effect. Thought grabban came across far worse than Rodwell.
