His injury is clearly very bad. How many weeks has he been out now? He's still on crutches. Has he had surgery do you know?

Reading were poor - can only deduce that they are /were saving it for the second half .... hope not. Always the worry that they can’t be as bad 2nd half

Thats the best we have played for weeks and weeks Still sloppy with the final ball at times, but decent Jimmy Mac having a bit of a mare, should have scored, crossing is woeful Clarke and Fletch look busy The mid 3 is working fine, Mikels best game for a bit, Clucas busy, Joe probs worst of the 3 Back 4 look solid, Fox has no quality on the ball mind Hope we dont get punished for not taking our chances That would be the story of our season really.

And Collins still can’t get a start at CB, He’s the best option we have at right back unfortunately.

In fairness to Brown he is being played out of position at centre forward. He was highly regarded by the Barnsley fans so what's happened? It's hard to work out what he sees Brown as. But not sure he *doesn't* sees him as a striker. He doesn't see him as a front-line option on the wing at the moment either. I'm sure he's said in a pretty recent interview that he sees him as a striker, at least as much as a wide option. Can't remember the specific interview to get the exact wording, but he may even have said he was merely "doing a job for the team" out wide and he prefers him in the middle? He was excellent against Villa,at right wing back.He has never been selected to play there again which is strange.

Those loanees by my rough estimate cost us approx 73 million in transfer fees. That's without wages. Can't be bothered to look up their actual, so lets take a conservwative estimate of 20'00 per week(1 mill p.a) on an average 4 year deal. That's another £48 mill. £113 mill approx. That's without the likes of Imbula and Berahinho who have departed and Vokes et al who nobody wants. That's in a nutshell why we are currently signing players on loan and short term free transfers. When you put it like that, I'm actually glad we cant spend any money. Even this season the £2m we did spend was on fucking Jacob Brown! In fairness to Brown he is being played out of position at centre forward. He was highly regarded by the Barnsley fans so what's happened?

I thought we were miles behind with more games played. Checked the table earlier on and everyone has played 27 games, and we're 'only' four points away from the playoffs. Form suggests we haven't got a chance and MON's decisions of late have been questionable at best, but we aren't out of it yet... It's true that mathematically we are just about in touch with the final play-off position but the trouble is our trajectory is all wrong. Zero wins in the last 7 matches, zero in the last 9 matches if you count the cups. Our metaphorical roof is shedding a few tiles and looks like it may be about to cave in. I'm genuinely surprised there has not been a single peep from the Board, were there a crowd the mood would be as dark as the slate grey February skies. Are you an English teacher Gods? Your posts at times are poetic.

Recall the lad from Newcastle Town making his debut, looked miles off the standard, if I’m in saying he had a serious injury shortly afterwards and not seen again. That was Sean Wade he came on as a substitute during a night match I recall. As you say he didn't get to a sniff but we never saw enough to really judge him. He was very prolific at Newcastle but I think the injury put paid to his dreams of making it as a professional.

When Dave Goodwin scored those two goals on debut against West Ham, I believe that he lived in Alsager and his father Jack played for Alsager Cricket Club. However, that was nearly 50 years and my memory may be playing tricks with me! Can any Alsager Stokies help me out? Dave was born and bred in Alsager,he used to live in coronation avenue.Played with him at Alsager Town,he runs a taxi business locally. I remember his Dad played bowls but not sure about cricket. He died quite recently I think and was well into his nineties.

The last time a Goodwin made his debut for Stoke he scored twice...went pretty much downhill after that for Dave Goodwin I'm afraid. Hope this lad starts a bit slower, but goes on for many, many successful seasons as a Stokie Are we looking at a rather unfortunate parallel? Dave Goodwin scored 3 goals in 26 appearances for Stoke between 1973 and 1977. He came from Nantwich. Dave Goodwin was from Alsager mate.

Wonder what the plan is for him? U-18s or straight into the U-23s? Then maybe a loan next season to a league club depending on how he does? Just looking at the photos of him and physically he looks the part already. A proper mountain of a lad for 18. I actually know a Chester season ticket holder. Will have to get the lowdown on him later, and also our loanee. A big lad? Maybe he's ready to cast a huge shadow over Vokes, and put Brown in the shade! Christ! He would have to be Whale sized to cast a shadow over our Sam.

Let him go! Will take time to get fit and earns too much for his impact on our games! Certainly hope we can see more players leave today! Wouldn't loan another player unless he was an upgrade to what we have either! Next season will be our season! Not with an end to parachute payments and all the Deadwood still bumming around it won't. God! I could fuckin scream when I think of all the money the club has spunked away on absolute shite,it goes beyond embarrassing, it's pure negligence.

Take your red and white glasses off. If that was on a stoke player you would be up in arms screaming red. On a second viewing I concur! Very rash.

He went to ground, studs up and slid in, both feet, can see why a red was given. Worse though is he didn’t need to do it, reckless. No he didn’t

I said red at the time then said yellow after the replay. But that last replay they showed for me it’s a justified red card. Over the ball out of control. Just silly. Rubbish

Jesus. Powell is a huge loss. Big call on Bursik too. I would have kept faith with him Sensible to rest Bursik imo.He is a young goalkeeper and his form has dipped recently,as it does with young players.Take him out before his confidence is affected.Good management imo.

I didn’t say that though. He won’t be worth £40m next summer, Fact. We get promoted with him at the center of our defence then he'll me valued at £40m Both of those scenarios are very unlikely.

No he won’t. Be realistic. He'll play champions league football in his career 100 %. He has the potential too,but I would be very surprised if it was with Burnley.

It's funny how things stick with you, from memory the allegation was that he called Mark Stein a "short, black, ugly, bean headed, twat" While arguably no one component of it was strictly inaccurate it added up to quite an insult Didn't realise he was so articulate! Can see why he got the Vale job.

Hopefully he gets an infected haemorrhoid and then accidentally sits down, bare arsed, onto a big pile of salt that's there for some reason.

He’s played two senior games of English football. I’m not expecting miracles from the lad but to write him off already is silly. How many times have you seen Verlinden play? What qualities does he have that Rabbi doesn’t? That is a very good question. I’ve regularly watched the U23s over the last few years and Thibaud certainly caught the eye playing for them from age 16/17 onwards. He showed great skill on both wings having pace and tenacity and the ability to beat a player and get a good cross in. He also had an eye for a goal. He has, however, been most unfortunate with injuries having a long term back injury around the time he was with St Pauli. After recovering from that injury and had a very promising loan spell with Bolton in league one for the first part of last season. So much so that the management at Stoke decided to recall him from that loan in January and he went straight into the squad making a number of decent substitute appearances before injuring his cruciate. He is now fit and once again looked impressive in the U23s and eventually got back into the match day squad but strangely (at least to me) his only appearance has been a brief cameo against QPR where as others have already said he looked very lively and provided more crosses in ten minutes than anyone else in the entire match. I just don’t get why the manager isn’t giving him the chances that in my opinion I think he deserves. 👍 Alright there Bayern!

I can only go on what I saw with my own eyes, when he played he looked sharp and a threat, against Preston the only answer for their fullback was to keep hacking at him, unfortunately the ref allowed it again and again he ends up injured and now not even a look in, I mean it’s ok to say he needs to train better but some people don’t train well but turn it on on the pitch we must have some world class trainers who can’t do it when it counts. He was on for 7 minutes and had 3 touches 😆.

As is Ince and he tries to play on the right. Is Ince left footed? I wouldn't have known. Well sort of!

I expect his immediate role will be to fill the Campbell shaped hole on the right. Yeah, but Campbell is left footed and plays on the right. As is Ince and he tries to play on the right.

Seems to me it was either Alfie Doughty or Harry Pickering. You'd imagine (or hope) that if we aren't in for Pickering, it is because we've got Doughty... Which doesn’t make sense. The crisis is now. I’m excited for Doughty, if we get him, but we won’t see him until next year and he won’t play left back for us if he is good enough on the wing. We need an actual left back now. Fox being injured until February is a real problem for us. Both are versatile as well and so it shouldn't be either or,if and when Fox returns.

www.lancashiretelegraph.co.uk/sport/19002829.rovers-lodge-bid-crewe-alexandra-left-back-harry-pickering/Rovers had made a bid for Crewe Alexandra left back Harry Pickering, the Lancashire Telegraph can confirm.
The club have a long-standing interest in the 21-year-old left back who is also attracting the attentions of Stoke City. However, Rovers are the only club to bid for the talented left back and it is understood the clubs aren’t far away in their valuations of the player.
Pickering still has two-and-a-half years left on his contract, but Crewe are realistic as to the fee they could receive for the player
If Blackburn can agree a fee, it'll be very small. Sounds like we're not in for him then doesn't it. If we're not then we really need to be because we're not going to get any better value. Really disappointed if we're not in for him and he will definitely improve the team which is the criteria the manager is following isn't it? The initial fee is a lot lower than it would have been pre Covid and I'm baffled that we haven't even made a bid.

Souttar is an intelligent player and has a delightful body shimmy that buys him time and allows him to pass it out wide or in front. He's had to adapt to playing in a back three and flat back four, but I'd hope next season will see him alongside Collins with a new right back next to him and perhaps Pickering on the left hand side. Being so tall and leggy he needs to avoid being exposed to too much space without Collins or a full back to cover, but in the air and as a relatively calm figure in defence he's a breath of fresh air. A pity he's not two inches shorter For such a big lad he certainly surprised me with how quickly he covers the ground and certainly isn't the sloth some had suggested.

I appreciate I'm in a minority but I think Souttar's form has dipped, not alarmingly, but significantly, since he returned to the team following isolation period. He's still playing OK but he set such high standards for himself initially and I don't think he's quite in the form he was earlier in the season. He's a bit less composed, his distribution has gone a bit AWOL and he's appeared a little sloppy in aspects of his defending that weren't visible at all before. He's a young lad. Dips are in form are to be expected. Hopefully this little break in the hectic schedule will enable him to recover a little, mentally if not physically. Think inconsistency among the younger players is always something that managers have to take into account. He is still at a good level, and if he doesn't dip any lower, then I think the manager will accept this and hope his form will jump up to his previous levels. As you say the break will hopefully be of benefit.
