Gunn Smith Collins Souttar Fox (if fit) / Tymon Cousins Clucas Clarke Powell Matondo Fletcher This. It's balanced, potentially attacking, has players in their correct positions but Smith still makes me feel a bit queasy.

Yeah it's the only downside but it's still the best team we have by a considerable mile. The only other thing is who partners Cousins. At this present time by default I think it should be Clucas.

Whatever it is I hope to god it isn’t 3/5 at the back or 4-3-3 with Mikel in the middle

If Thompson plays, we concede and we struggle to score.

Gunn Smith Collins Souttar Fox (if fit) / Tymon Cousins Clucas Clarke Powell Matondo Fletcher Definitely this. Without Mikel on the bench too. I’d rather the tea lady than that prick.

Yeah it's the only downside but it's still the best team we have by a considerable mile. The only other thing is who partners Cousins. At this present time by default I think it should be Clucas. I'd go Cousins, Mikel in that line up and if Fox isn't fit to play, then it has to be Mclean ahead of Tymon as a temporary left back. I'd also play Collins centre half, but controversially probably, I'd give Souttar a rest for a week. I don't think he's been playing well for a little while and a little break might do him good. Irrespective of what we want, if he opts for a stop gap measure at left back rather than reverting to a back 3, it will be a midfield 3 probably excluding Cousins (which I don't agree with) and will have a front 3 of Fletcher, flanked by Clarke and Powell operating from inside left. In O'Neills preferred 4-3-3, I'd be going Bursik Smith, Collins, Chester, Mclean (assuming Fox isn't fit) Cousins Mikel, Thompson Clarke, Fletcher, Powell

Don’t think Powell will be fit If Powell isn't fit, a clean sheet and nicking a goal courtesy of a set piece is probably the best we can hope for, which makes it even more important that Cousins plays.

I think young Joe should be back in goal then 10 others. Gunn is our best keeper imo. Bursik's done well enough when he's played but he's not quite the level we need atm. His shot stopping is letting him down.

Gunn
Smith Souttar Collins Tymon
Mikel Clucas or Thompson
Clarke Powell McClean
Fletcher
... is the team I think he'd go for if Powell is fit.
I'd play Cousins over Mikel and would probably play Matondo as well.

His shot stopping is letting him down. Gunn gave me kittens the other week and in my humble opinion Joe is the more assured under the high ball and better at kicking. I'm not sure Joe had done anything to warrant being dropped in the first place.

I agree, Gunn made me feel very nervous. I would and still would stick with Bursik. He dominates his whole box way better than Gunn.

Hes looked very good I think but it’s the one area where we actually looked very competently stocked in for a change and I don’t think Gunn is any better or worse so dropping Bursik was premature I think.

Don’t think Powell will be fit The injury was fake, he's going to Newcastle before the window shuts oh hang on...

Bayern rates Gunn as the best keeper, think I might agree.
All 3 are decent, a break won't do Bursik any harm however if that break is the rest of the season then he gets no games but then that's the same for anyone of the three Another reason why actual reserve team football needs to be brought back in addition to U23 football
Reading aren't the quickest at the back, we have LB issue (unless Fox is fit) so Clarke & Matondo on the break might be more effective this time out

Gunn Smith Collins Souttar Fox (if fit) / Tymon Cousins Clucas Clarke Powell Matondo Fletcher There's no way I would play Tymon and Matondo down the left in a 4.3.3. Far too lightweight. think it will be: 4.3.3 Gunn Collins Souttar Chester Fox Mikel Allen Thompson Clarke Fletcher Powell/McClean Or If Fox out 3.4.3 Collins Souttar Chester Smith Mikel Allen McClean Clarke Fletcher Powell I

Proposing Maclean at left back I find quite unbelievable If you really want to play him play 442 so he can do his usual mad scrambling up and down the left wing.Sometimes it comes off. He cannot be picked in either a 433 or 4231 as he does not have the required basic football ability whatever effort he puts in.
Agree with LGH87 side except for Clucas as he doesn’t have the discipline to play the one of two defensive roles for 90 mins. Would have to be Allen I think but his firm needs to step up somewhat on what he has shown since injury.
Really hope we can start to see if Collins and Souttar can make a reliable centre pairing.
