www.transfermarkt.co.uk/charlie-cresswell/leistungsdaten/spieler/597659Just noticed Charlie Cresswell isn't featuring at all at Leeds, despite signing a new deal in the summer. Don't know if he was an Alex Neil target - or a club target though. theathletic.com/5136907/2023/12/21/leeds-united-january-window-2024/Who could be on their way out? Joe Gelhardt and Charlie Cresswell have been told that they will be staying at Leeds, despite their lack of minutes. While a loan deal might appeal to one or both of them, Farke is not willing to lose them at this stage. There is substantial interest in Cresswell, though, so it remains to be seen if that position holds with him routinely failing to make the bench.

Do we think there's any chance Jared's slideshow extends to all 4 of our problem slots? GoalkeeperMark Travers (still on bench for B'mouth) Daniel Iversen (more of a Neil target?) Scott Morris (allegedly on trial from Christchurch United last month, but maybe not starter standard) Left-backNoah Allen (on trial from Inter Miami last month, but maybe not starter standard) Centre-backAny names linked yet? ForwardAli Al-Hamadi (linked, but not strongly) Ben Brereton-Diaz (although mainly plays on left?) Brandon Thomas-Asante (doesn't seem that popular with Baggies fans although lack of options seems to be dictating he's starting every game)

Young English player they signed from Brighton last year

Confirmed in the Cameroon squad for AFCON Bollocks. What's the minimum number of games he will miss for us? No idea if there's some flexibility. But, according to this, they're flying to Saudi on Saturday! So no idea about Ipswich - but probably not the FA Cup game. www.camfoot.com/actualites/can-2023-le-programme-des-lions,443441.html After the publication of the list selected for the final phase, the delegation and the technical staff will fly to Jeddah on December 30, 2023. It is in Saudi Arabia that the Indomitable Lions will refine their strategy. A friendly match is planned for January 9, 2024 against Zambia. And with the group games on 15, 19 and 23 - definitely Rotherham (13th) and Birmingham (20th) Plus at least Sunderland (27th) if they advance.

Frustrating that, presumably, paying off Neil and the compo for Schuey (£3m+?) will really eat into what even a potential moneybags club like Stoke are able to do in January in the FFP era.
We know that we were (fancifully?) still being linked with the likes of Tom Cannon and Ross Stewart on deadline day..and more realistically with £2m+ bids for Thomas-Asante and partial wage contributions for Ben Davies.
But how much we pushed the spending pedal absolutely to the floor, and if we've got much headroom now, is hard to gauge.

Travers still figuring on the bench for Bournemouth, seemingly ahead of the Romanian bloke they've got on loan? So maybe doubtful he'll be available imminently? Iversen maybe less of a contender with Neil's exit. Wonder who we're looking at? Wasn't there rumour of a new Zealand keeper already done, no idea of age or experience tho Yeah, apparently someone called Scott Morris was on trial. 22, and seems to be out of contract this week. Just looking at the level he's been playing at, and it seems to be a very low standard. So doubtful he's one we'd be seeing as a starter - or use a permit exemption on (if he hasn't got a UK passport) But we'll see www.transfermarkt.co.uk/scott-morris/leistungsdaten/spieler/737133

Love how down to earth he is.
Probably the first Stoke manager to say 'defo' in a post-match interview

Cameroon squad for AFCON named tomorrow.
Group games on 15, 19 and 23 Jan.
So minimum 3-4 games missed if he's named.

9. Well done Schuey.
Genuinely think Birmingham should pull the plug on Rooney. Normally I'd think it would be ridiculous after a couple of months, but their fans seem to have no faith in him, and they hardly had any to start with

Wonder if there's any possibility/desire to get a couple of million for Campbell - or just a resignation now that he'll leave for nothing in the summer? Why would anyone offer that now? I think that'd be a pretty par fee for someone with 6 months left, to get half a season of action out of him. Different level of player - but Arsenal paid £12m for Jorginho as he entered his last 6 months this time last year Chicken feed if there was even a flicker of Prem interest - but no idea what the level of interest in him would now be or where he realistically sees himself next season But he's the only player on our books who you'd fancy to have a sniff of 6-7 goals between now and May.

I don't think Mmaee will ever be a success in a 433, certainly as the lone striker.
Whether he could be okay deeper, although I'd much prefer Bae there, who could go on to be special, or whether you rip it up and give him a partner, I don't know.
But he isn't good enough at the ugly or back to goal stuff to play on his own. He's got something (although I'm sure Trousers would disagree) but he looks a bit of a whiny sod who's a bit lost in English football.

Think these are the contract situations. At least we can say goodbye to Gayle in the summer
In terms of building blocks, some but not enough sure things.
GK Fielding, Blondy 2024 Bonham 2025 Simkin 2026
RB Hoever 2024 Gooch 2025 Tchamadeu 2027
LB Stevens 2024
CB McNally, Clark 2024 Rose 2025 Wilmot 2026
MID Thompson 2024 Laurent, Baker, Johnson 2025 Sidibe 2026 Pearson, Burger, Bae 2027
ATT Campbell, Gayle, Wesley, Haksabanovic 2024 Tezgel, Lowe(?) 2025 Mmaee, Vidigal, Leris 2026 Jojic 2027

Sure this has been mentioned before, but the non-Rotherham home league goals paint a depressing picture
19 August Fantastic Vidigal finish v Watford
24 Sep Vidigal consolation goal at 0-3 down v Hull
21 Oct Mmaee v Sunderland. Nice finish McNally header from corner
25 Oct Own Goal v Leeds
12 Dec Penalty v Swansea
So basically 3 goals from open play (and 2 from set-pieces if we're including Wes v Leeds) in the 11 games since the false dawn of Rotherham
And the last non-pen a Stoke player scored in a home game was on October 21st

Midfield definitely looks like a potential bright spot - but the rest of the team looks worrying. It'd help if we started playing our better players. Bae and Tchamadeu have got to start, while Campbell seems the only hope of internally adding a goal threat in the short-term. Hopefully Wilmot will be back some time over Christmas/New Year. New keeper just has to arrive in the first week of Jan, as well as a left-back as an absolute priority. Gooch is very hard not to like and is genuinely a good squad man - but he's not really the best option in any position as a starter, due to his lack of goals and a left foot. Looks like at least a fortnight until we see Campbell or Stevens. Have you got any updates on Tyrese Campbell or Enda Stevens?
Yeah, they won’t be available for upcoming fixtures. Tyrese is probably two weeks away. Enda will be back in training at the back end of next week, just taking a bit of time. It would help if we started with more than 2 attackers though. It’s really not good enough and happened again yesterday. Wilmot being back will change nothing either. He’s garbage and Rose and McNally are sadly the best partnership we have. McNally is the only centre half worth keeping and we don’t own the fucker. If anyone wants to beat the transfer team with a stick it should be the defence and not the attackers imo. Yeah, defence is an absolute car crash. I know you won't have it - but I'd take Wilmot over Rose any day (and the fact Ciaran Clark is worse than the pair of them paints a very nasty picture) We can just be thankful we didn't spend £750k on Rose as we wanted to. I think we can absolve Jared of any blame on that one. Left-back situation was also dereliction of duty.

All of the forwards we signed in the summer are worse than Jacob Brown, he shits all over all of them. It takes a special recruitment team to manage that. Leris and Brown are both very similar. Similar - but Brown's got the edge in every respect, hasn't he? Much quicker and much more of an eye for goal. It'd take Leris about 5 seasons to get the 13 Jacob got in 21/22

I thought he had a good game at Boro, and there was obviously the completely freakish worldie at Bristol City.
But, in general, he's confirming that buying someone with no pace, no trick and no goals record to play wide in the front three was probably a pretty strange idea.

I'd honestly sod him off back to Preston yesterday. He's been a dreadful signing. A total fraud. Pearson will be back at Birmingham with Burger and Laurent more than likely missing through injury Sounds like Burger will be ok - says he just had cramp

We've got to be pretty ruthless in selection now.
I really worry about what Gallagher has been filling his head with if we're still not seeing Tchamadeu and Bae starting - and starts for Leris and Johnson.
It's bizarre when that can be allowed to happen.
Tchamadeu has got to start at RB from now on, as for all his eye-catching enthusiasm and effort, we can't afford to see any more non-goalscorers in the front three.

www.stokesentinel.co.uk/sport/football/football-news/stoke-city-millwall-live-stream-8993313Message from John CoatesChairman John Coates has sent an email message to Stoke supporters this morning. He says: "As I write to you today ahead of Steven Schumacher’s first fixture as our new Head Coach, I do so whilst sharing my warm wishes for the festive period and wishing you and your loved ones a very happy Christmas. "The season so far – and in particular the past couple of weeks – have been befitting of the rollercoaster of emotions that football can be. Results during the early part of the season haven’t matched our ambitions, and that is something we are all striving to put right. "Having now appointed Steven – who I firmly believe to be one of the most exciting young coaches in the country – I am looking forward with optimism to the festive fixture schedule and the remainder of the season. Steven is already realising that he is joining a great club, with a loyal and passionate fanbase, dedicated staff and all the potential to fulfil his ambitions in the game. "In his early days in the role, he has talked at length about bravery, relentless work-rate and a desire to connect with supporters by playing entertaining football. He is determined to make Stoke City a tough team to play against and an intimidating venue to visit. I believe this to be very much in-keeping with the aspirations of every one of us as we strive for success on the field under the leadership of our new Head Coach. "I cannot thank you enough for your loyal and passionate support, and am looking forward to uniting behind Steven and the team at the bet365 Stadium this afternoon. Enjoy the game."
