www.bbc.co.uk/sounds/play/p0hyqznl8:00 Steve Evans confirms that "Stoke are one of a few clubs that have matched the release clause in his contract" and he believes they're in talks with his agents But he doesn't seem to know the latest.

Just been walking the dog at CW and spotted something very interesting. Jared Dublin loading a huge suitcase and some belongings into a taxi. Leaving the club or off somewhere on a dual holiday/scouting mission? FullerMagic Any interesting leagues still operating ? Interesting. Gooo on Jared. Most places still going in Europe this weekend, aren't they? Plus S. America, MLS, Korea and Japan etc. Schuey name-checked him in his video thing yesterday, so doubtful he's on his way out. Although you never know...

Not sure if they'll get anyone better? Yeah, I know Wagner wasn't popular at all, and a lot of their fans have been calling for it and expecting the axe would fall - but that seems very harsh from the outside. Their form from the autumn onwards was very good - I think they were unbeaten at home in their last 16 and they've got one point less than Leicester from November onwards. The Norwich squad wasn't anything special in this league. Most people were putting them down for mid-table, and play-offs would have been at the upper end of predictions. They've kidded themselves into thinking bouncing back instantly, playing great football, was par for them. Just shows how hard it is for a manager to win back the fans once they've made their mind up. There are so many decent-sized clubs in this division now - and there are always going to be about a dozen who think they've badly underachieved.

It'd be interesting to know what the new reality of Champ wages was, especially for non-parachute teams.
There was a massive dip post-Covid, but maybe they've gone up a bit
But in this heavily-policed FFP era, can't imagine they're crazy. Rob Adcock was suggesting he's heard our top whack was Β£16,000-a-week.

The explanation constructed by some Sheff Utd fans is that we're paying him 35-40k-a-week.

Judging by the twitter comments, there are a lot of other Champ fans who thought they had a shot at King Vik, and are a bit salty that we've got him.
Lovely.

Fine from a phone still mate, i've been unable to embed from a laptop for ages now, so i don't even try anymore tbh. I normally do it on my laptop, and that workaround seems to have gone this morning. Phone it is then!

www.yorkshirepost.co.uk/sport/football/rotherham-united-boss-steve-evans-praises-character-and-humility-of-top-class-viktor-johansson-and-makes-a-pledge-4613916"Viktor's been a wonderful goalkeeper for the club. Everyone is aware of the huge interest in him. "I'm getting phone calls from managers who want my opinion on what he's like behind the scenes. They don't ask what he's like between sticks. They see that for themselves. "Fans have bonds with managers and players because they recognise what they do and how hard they fight for their club. Viktor is a top-class talent. "I've sat in the stands and watched him and he's been wonderful. More importantly, he's a really good guy off the pitch. He's really professional. "He's also really humble, which is different to how you sometimes find players in the Championship who have got aspirations.β βToday I met his grandad who is spending time in this country," the Scot said. "I told him: "Forget Viktor's footballing abilities, just be proud you have a grandson who conducts himself so well.β βHe understood when I came in that it was highly probable that he would be going and he also understood that I had to do some homework into Dillon (Phillips). Weβve tried to look after him the last week or so because it could be life changing whatβs might happen to Viktor but if he walks in the building at the end of June Iβll be absolutely delighted. Dillon Phillips is a number one, he just met Johansson who was number one star, star, star"

The national team's Viktor Johansson at Arlanda to fly to England. Expected to sign for Stoke City shortly Johansson travels to sign for StokeDaniel Kristoffersson Here is the national team's goalkeeper Viktor Johansson at Arlanda about to sign for Stoke City. According to Sportbladet's information, the club wins the tug of war for the Swede. There have been serious rumors about the national team's goalkeeper Viktor Johansson recently. He has been linked with a number of clubs in England, with Leeds, Stoke, Southampton and a couple of other clubs in The Championship looking for the Swede. He also had a buyout clause in the contract with Rotherham of SEK 13.5 million according to English media. And according to Sportbladet's information, Stoke now activates that clause and buys him off. The player was at Arlanda on Thursday evening to fly to England to sign for Stoke City. If everything goes as planned, he will be presented as the club's latest signing within the next few days. Maybe already this weekend or next week at the latest.
Johansson made 46 appearances for Rotherham and kept six clean sheets. In total, there were 144 games for the club, which will play in League 1 next year.

Not looking good at left-back I never knew this player existed until I saw a tweet last night but if Southgate wants to play a back 3, Juve have an English wing back/winger who people are raving about. I canβt remember his name but could be an option? www.transfermarkt.co.uk/samuel-iling-junior/leistungsdaten/spieler/581672Yeah, interesting. Although more of a wing-back. So can't see him being chucked into a back 4. Can see him going with Chilwell now he's back in training and on the bench, with the knowledge he's got Trippier as a steady option on his wrong side. You certainly can't take both Shaw and Chilwell with their track record. But got to take another left-footer in the 26. Can only really see Mitchell at Palace or Hall at Newcastle as an outsider.

Preliminary squad named on Tuesday apparently, and will be bigger than 26.
Assuming that these 15 are in if fit, which seems fair given they're all at least 1/9 with the bookies:
Pickford, Ramsdale Walker, TAA, Stones, Maguire, Trippier Bellingham, Rice, Gallagher Foden, Saka, Palmer Kane, Watkins
The other 11 he'll end up going with seems total guesswork, based on finger-in-air injury prognosis of about 5 defenders and a feel for what Southgate normally does.
1 from: Pope (8/15), Henderson (15/8), Butland (11/4), Trafford (7/1)
At least 5 from: Branthwaite (1/5), Gomez (2/7), Guehi (1/2), Chilwell (4/7), Shaw (8/13), Dunk (Evs), Konsa (6/4), Colwill (6/4) James (2/1) , Dier (5/2), Lewis (9/2), Mitchell (9/2), White (5/1), Livramento (8/1), Tomori (9/1), Quansah (16/1)
2, possibly 3 from: Mainoo (2/7), Henderson (2/7), Wharton (11/4), Jones (10/1), Phillips, JWP (10/1)
2, possibly 3 from: Maddison (1/6), Gordon (2/5), Rashford (4/6), Grealish (4/7), Eze (5/6) Bowen (10/11), Elliott (11/4), Sancho (5/1), , Rogers (16), Sterling (20)
Maybe 1 more from: Toney (8/15), Solanke (8/1), Wilson (12/1)
Shaw (chance of being on the bench for Cup Final?) Chilwell (bench yesterday after a couple of months out. Played for a few weeks in the winter, again after a few months out, when he looked poor. So who knows?) James - great player and playing again after 4-5 months out. Normally you'd rush him back and risk him, but any point taking him along with Walker, TAA and Trippier, even in a 26? Guehi - 2 brief sub apperances after 4-5 months out Maguire - possibly back for cup final.
Can't see him risking both Shaw and Chilwell, so does that mean you muddle through with 'do a job' types or take a swing on someone like Tyrick Mitchell who has the advantage of being uninjured and left-footed?
I'd probably take a punt on Shaw, given any fitness encouragement then go with Mitchell as a left-footed fit option, knowing Trippier can play there too
Don't think Maddison or Rashford have shown enough, especially with Eze playing as he is
Midfield is another weak area - it must be if Conor Gallagher is nailed-on for the squad. In the absence of any other options, I'd be tempted to roll the dice on Mainoo and Adam Wharton, someone who actually enjoys playing deeper, as the squad options, and I'd be tempted to start Bellingham a bit deeper too.

Spot on from Wolves. Almost feel like applauding
π¨πΊ OFFICIAL: letter sent to the Premier League regarding scrapping VAR.
"Wolves have formally submitted a resolution to the Premier League to trigger a vote at the league's AGM in June, on the removal of VAR from the start of the 2024/25 season.
The introduction of VAR in 2019/20 was a decision made in good faith and with the best interests of football and the Premier League at its heart. However, it has led to numerous unintended negative consequences that are damaging the relationship between fans and football, and undermining the value of the Premier League brand, which include:
β’ Impact on goal celebrations and the spontaneous passion that makes football special.
β’ Frustration and confusion inside stadiums due to lengthy VAR checks and poor communication.
β’A more hostile atmosphere with protests, booing of the Premier League anthem and chants against VAR.
β’ Overreach of VAR's original purpose to correct clear and obvious mistakes, now overanalysing subjective decisions and compromising the game's fluidity and integrity.
β’ Diminished accountability of on-field officials, due to safety net of VAR, leading to an erosion of authority on the pitch.
β’ Continued errors despite VAR, with supporters unable to accept human error after multiple views and replays, damaging confidence in officiating standards.
β’ Disruption of the Premier League's fast pace with lengthy VAR checks and more added time, causing matches to run excessively long.
β’ Constant discourse about VAR decisions often overshadowing the match itself, and tarnishing the reputation of the league.
β’ Erosion of trust and reputation, with VAR fuelling completely nonsensical allegations of corruption.
The decision to table the resolution has come after careful consideration and with the utmost respect for the Premier League, PGMOL and our fellow competitors.
There is no blame to be placed - we are all just looking for the best possible outcome for football - and all stakeholders have been working hard to try and make the introduction of additional technology a success.
However, after five seasons of VAR in the Premier League it is time for a constructive and critical debate on its future.
Our position is that the price we are paying for a small increase in accuracy is at odds with the spirit of our game, and as a result we should remove it from the 2024/25 season onwards."

twitter.com/KNTFootballKBS SPORTS INTERVIEW WITH BAE JUN-HO π°π·π Bae Jun-ho gave a short interview in Korea ever since arriving home and shared his thoughts about how his season went, how meaningful the awards/his chant song have been to him, and also his future goals to advance into the EPL and play for the senior KNT. Good stuff! π₯ Thoughts on your first season in Europe? π£οΈ "I really think it was a successful first season when I look back. At first it was very hard, but I overcome the difficulties. Because I adapted faster than I expected I showed better performance, I think I can take it to another level next year. I think it was very successful for my first season overseas." You were selected as the Player of the Year, chosen by the fans! π£οΈ "Since it's only my first season, I'm the only Asian player from overseas, and I don't think it would have been easy for such a player since it was an award given by fan votes, it's a very meaningful and personally rewarding award. As I'm learning English and trying to communicate in the language, connecting with the fans through interviews, everything's been getting better and better." Talk about your cheer song. π£οΈ "It's my first cheer song and the reality is not many players have their own songs, but as they've made a song for me it's been so meaningful, and through that song I think my confidence went up alot." Can you sing your cheer for us? π£οΈ "Right now? Uhh...it's a little awkward..." (Bae shyly runs through the cheer for the interviewer.) Do you have any regrets about not being able to join the Olympic team? π£οΈ "I was so sorry. Because the player's heart is to want to be helpful to the team. I wanted to go no matter what but the situation at Stoke wasn't good...I felt sorry to Coach Hwang. He fully trusted in me to the end and he did everything he could to bring me, but I couldn't help." Goals moving forward? π£οΈ "For now, I would like to advance to the EPL and I would like to debut for the senior National team, those are my goal. I am confident that I will grow into a better player than I am now, so watch out for me!"
