I read a stat this morning that since 2007 we’ve only played one home match on Boxing Day at 3pm (what a match it was - the 3-2 win over Sheffield Wednesday in 2019 - little did we know how life was about to change in the coming months!)
We’ve had only 1 Boxing Day home games in the last 8 years! What is going on!?
It doesn’t seem right to me and would indicate to me that the club are requesting an away fixture on Boxing Day but I don’t see any reason why they would!? Surely it’s a game you’d want at home as it’s traditionally the most well attended matchday of the season.
Quite bizarre…Here’s to a home Boxing Day match in 2024 as it’s well overdue!

That ending to the Sheff Wed game was up there with the best mentals ever. I remember a couple from the Premier League days and most notably the Man Utd 2-0 win where we played really well again followed up by Everton away and the 4-3 fantastic game(where did it all go wrong). I also remember the Villa home game being moved to an 8pm kick off on Boxing Day night and the game was absolutely dire ending 0-0 I think

Would have to check to be sure but can't be arsed 😁

The Boxing Day win versus Man Utd was really special despite at the time our team looking more than a match for theirs, we genuinely were one of the best sides in the country during that period! The less said about that Villa game and any future 8pm Boxing Day kick off times should be consigned to the scrap heap!

Even in the disastrous season of 84/85 at least we had some cheer on Boxing Day with the unexpected win against Man Utd😊soon back down to earth 3 days later though with a home defeat to QPR

That's the buzz that keeps you turning up in the hope to witness another. Its a helluva drug 😆

Was that Luton game when their keeper scored an own goal in the last minute? Can you remember the Preston Boxing Day game under Pulis😳Christ that was bad

On your point of substance 7 out of 8 Boxing Day fixtures away feels like too much of a coincidence.
It's like flipping a coin 8 times and it coming up tails on 7 of the occasions.
Are clubs allowed special requests ahead of the announcement of the fixtures? I guess they are if there are policing or travel concerns.

Can you remember the Preston Boxing Day game under Pulis😳Christ that was bad Cant remember to be honest but we scored two late goals to win it. But what made it funny was 2 of my mates had driven down and left early to get to a party back in Stoke and missed the fun. I was staying with a pal in London and went on the lash in a random boozer in Luton then back to London to continue our lash up. Then got talking to an elder American couple on the tube who thought it was hilarious that my mate was rolling a bifta on the tube. Great day, terrible hangover 😆 I'm a big Pulis fan but yeah he did dish up some rudimentary shyte at times. Mostly away from home which did sometimes put you off going away.

Slightly off-topic in the late 40s & early 50s matches were played on Christmas & boxing days . Often these would be "double-headers" and in early 50s we spanked arseholes away on Christmas Day and again at the Vic on Boxing Day.

I was thinking yesterday to make a post to ask if anyone on here had ever been to a football match on Xmas Day?

Remember my uncle getting me my first ticket for Christmas & he'd packaged it in a Christmas Cracker which was orchestrated for me to win 😉🤣! Butler Street seating area, remember it well. Especially the banging your feet on the wooden floor whenever Stoke won a corner, anyone else Remember doing this?! Despite the 0-2 defeat, I was smitten, Stoke City were my team & the Victoria Ground became my new 2nd home.. & with how the season unfolded it was to become a quick-fire life experience & test of character as all my mates were 'followers' of Liverpool, Man United, Everton & Spurs back then 🙄😬

My other favourites are the winner in Split, Fuller's in Istanbul despite the result, Mamas winner first prem home game v Villa, Arnie's at anfield (league cup semi), Lawrence at Cov (promotion season) and Ray Wallace's bullet header at Wrexham which I think was Brian Little season. In no order but just my favourites there.

Celebrate I did not sadly 😆😂

The Assaidi winner against Chelsea was one I forgot to add in as that went bloody mental.

15 years since Phil Brown Day at Man City I heard him and big Sam talking about this on radio 5 the other day (possibly Christmas eve). Well worth a listen if anyone can find it. Edit: It was on Football Daily on radio 5 on Christmas eve
