This will be brilliant. Just need to attract the acts to make it pay now. I'll certainly go my fair share of gigs if the right ones come along.

30 years too late and should have been built down at Etruria with upgraded road and rail connections.
Why is our City so backward looking?

I've said this for such a long time and I've been of this opinion since I was younger - I couldn't agree more about this. It's interesting to think about why we are such a backward looking city, as in my view that can be seen in the people too. You only have to look at comments these days on things like this - always seem to be more negative than positive and I don't understand why. In this case I don't see what anyone can find negative about regenerating this part of Hanley, it's far better than the complete eyesore that's there now.

I was in Hanley for the first time in maybe 15 years just after Xmas and it seriously needs something as you say. Looks like the place hasn't had a facelift in half a century apart from the off new restaurant/ theatre etc. Good that something at last beingdone

Certainly need something like this needed it for years, only problems i can see is you go Manchester arena good night out hotels etc. Same with Birmingham Nottingham etc, who would want to stay in Hanley unless the place is seriously upgraded? Suppose we need the arena first get tha decent gigs on and hopefully the regeneration will start.

Which political party has dominated Stoke-on-Trent for so long? Tricky that, imagine having your grants slashed systematically by central government over the last 40 odd years eh? Which political party has been in power for most of that time?

Nottingham and Sheffield are prime examples of forward thinking cities with similar populations. Arenas, integrated transport systems, we are so far behind.

Nottingham and Sheffield don’t have a population who slaughter everything about their cities and embrace change and rigouresly defend it …..Stoke-On-Trent’s though is a different ball game and I feel this thread is about to confirm that Embrace it ffs

Hopefully this comes off. Nice to see a positive.
Something Phil Taylor championed years ago when discussing Premier league darts . Not sure where it would leave the Viccy Hall but this can only be good news

Good stuff Funding for it? There’s going to be an announcement this afternoon mate including a name for it Great news but surely we have to aim bigger than a 3.5K limit which will in turn attract bigger stars or events?

There’s going to be an announcement this afternoon mate including a name for it Great news but surely we have to aim bigger than a 3.5K limit which will in turn attract bigger stars or events? Have to admit I was surprised by the size predicted for it when I heard the piece on Radio Stoke this morning. 3,500 puts it in the "large theatre/city hall" league - although there are a few similar arena venues around the country - Hull and Cardiff for example. UK VenuesThe thinking is probably that it can offer a more attractive facility for artists, promoters and techies when compared to traditional venues of that size. Modern arena layout and technical features (if they get it right!) combined with the more intimate capacity of a big theatre/hall. In which case, it would be a more attractive option compared say, with the Apollo Manchester, Birmingham O2 Academy, Wolves Civic Hall for example. Incidentally, has the capacity of the Viccy Hall been reduced since it was overhauled? That link says it's 1,467 - I always thought it was just shy of 2,000 - especially if it was a "standing" gig? Anyway, who else thinks it would be a great place to have a commemorative statue of Lemmy in prime place at the entrance? I know - he was born in Burslem, but if the venue was to become the home for many gigs in the future, what better place and person to welcome visiting bands (and tourists ). "No Sleep 'Til Hanley".

Can’t wait for the comments online “Why the fuck do we need that” “That’ll look good in this dump won’t it”
This is why we won’t get anywhere.

From what I heard in the wireless they're looking to cater for e-sports as well as other events, sounds uncharacteristically forward thinking.
Mike Lloyd wasn't keen when interviewed, worried about the effect on the Regent apparently.

I reckon it's a brilliant idea but the biggest drawback to it being there is the Victorian road system we have on that side of Hanley. Barring the A50, everything south of Hanley (Longton way) is so snarled up that it takes half an hour to get to a Wright's Pie Shop.
OS.

Lemmys a corking idea.......along with Slash and the fat Boslem dancer...... jokes aside why not give a nod to people from the area that have made it.....? Good on em I say....

By gig I mean the friends of George Formby get together and swap meet
