Levelling up Where’s the car park? Deep underground, you enter it at the bottom of Limekiln.

It's about time we improved communication links in the city and I love the idea of trams 🚊 let's hope they don't take the piss on pricing and keep it cheap.

Levelling up Where’s the car park? I'm sure they'll sort the parking out. There must be 500ish at John Street that'll sort a third of the attendees out. I've recently attended sold out shows at both the Viccy Hall and the Regent it didn't look like there were any noticeable issues parking or queueing. The fact that they're considering public transport is good as well. I was talking to a lady from Birmingham at one of the concerts and she's arrived by train and needed taxis. She's also arrived several hours earlier to have a look around the city centre and was surprised by the lack of action. She's also ventured down to Hanley Park and was extremely impressed they've made a magnificent job of it. All the new work done in recent years in Hanley has been of a very high standard but the last two years have been nightmarish for city/town centres with Covid restrictions/ lockdowns and the move to online shopping with the reduction in footfall. The problems with the larger retailers going in Hanley hasn't helped. Weirdly since the first lockdown I've discovered places like North and the Quarter and this development will only enhance Hanley and hopefully kickstart the regeneration. I use Stoke town centre on a regular basis and it's noticeable that there's been a gradual improvement there over the years.

Trams will be great. Hopefully they will run more regularly than the buses and run later too. It's a pain getting home after 6pm on a bus these days.

You wait till it’s the new world capital of darts - like Jollies without the bus station next door.
They will make sure darts will be played there won’t they?

Will they pump some money into the Albion, prime spot should this go ahead , a big pub that’s desperate for a bit of investment and the toilets to be cleaned .

Got to keep the revolving doors though I agree Was in there yesterday, watching one of the reasons I suspect people avoid Hanley do his best to get nicked outside the town hall, well known for being a pain in the arse apparently, seems they couldn't charge him with an offence so he was outside Wetherspoons along with a couple of mates with, can of super strength cider in hand, being a pain in the arse again an hour later In the seventies somebody would've probably walked out the pub, given the scrote a right hander and game over, let's get on with our day

Lot of local conversations go something like this ……. “Hanley’s a shithole” “yes but they have ideas to improve it such as a new arena” “it’ll still be a F…..ing shithole, it’ll never work!” I remember saying something similar myself when seeing the log cabin/retail units going up at Trentham approx 15 years ago and look how that turned out, a major success!! Yes, but Trentham isn't infested with dustheads, beggars, violent alcoholics and other such criminal parasites is it? Whereas Hanley is.

It'll make a great homeless shelter eventually 🙄
It's a pipe dream. The same story regarding umpteen versions of the east west precinct has been played out for at least a decade and will probably continue for another 10 years or so too.

If festival park is the new ‘centre’ (retail, offices, entertainment, hotels) AND it’s conveniently in the valley next to road, rail and canal why not put it there and open up Etruria train station on event days - that would be a real legacy to the city from the 1986 garden festival?

Tricky that, imagine having your grants slashed systematically by central government over the last 40 odd years eh? Which political party has been in power for most of that time? One wouldn't invest as it never won a seat there, the other didn't need to invest as it was a safe seats. Finally a change and its now probably seen as marginal seats so there's interest and investment. So the City being a Labour stronghold for all those years meant reduced funding by a Tory government. Who'd have thought that eh? And the £56 million coming in doesn't take away the well over £200 million cut over the last 5 years. £20 million for Tunstall baths and Library to be refurbished and then sold off? How is that right?

Fantastic news. I really hope the Premier League Darts comes home. Hopefully it also helps to rejuvenate Hanley, the shopping centre and the shops around it. Also Festival Park, all we’re getting is B&M, Poundland, Home Bargains crap.
The big problem is how do we get rid of all the druggies, beggars etc? I know there’s the bigger question of how they ended up like that in the first place but that would probably take a very long time to solve.

I don't know where they'd stand legally so it might be a non-starter but the thought of a private security firm funded by the traders and/or donations appeals to me, just like bouncers but for a town centre, the police seemed powerless to remove this dickhead yesterday.

Whats happening with that big piece of land they have cleared across below the new Tesco at the junction towards Clough street I’ve been wondering this myself, it was my impression that for some time Tesco had owned this plot, it was one of a number of sites they had hoovered up when they were ‘land-banking’ to prevent competition.
