how much will stoke charge for someone who loses there card as surely this will happen more with people keeping the cards in their wallets other than storing them at home like they would a booklet? Probably £5 admin fee for a lost card. That's what they charge for a lost Delilah's entry card. In many ways a plastic card is much easier for the club to replace than the ST books. The lost (or stolen?) card is simply deregistered on the computer (to prevent it being used) and the new card takes seconds to register on the computer and pence to supply.

I'm hoping (I have no indication that what I'm suggesting will be the case) that having a swipe card system will make it easier and cheaper to replace a lost season ticket than the current book system. If the system is decent, if you lose your card they should be able to instantly re-issue a new one while cancelling your old one to prevent fraudulent use. In a similar way to how it works when you bank card is lost or stolen.
The problem with the book system is that it would be very easy for someone to pretend they've lost their book to obtain a new one with the intention of selling it on for profit, which means that in the unfortunate situation that you do lose it you have to jump through tons of hoops to prove that you have genuinely lost it and have to pay quite a bit to have a replacement book issued. If they have a system along the lines that I've suggested then fraud is impossible because the original card will be blocked and unable to be used so with the club less fearful of fraud hopefully it'll be much cheaper and easier to get a replacement?

If it means I can carry my ST in my wallet, instead of leaving it in (a) the car, or (b) at home, both of which I have done on numerous occasions, I'm all for it. That is, until the machinery plays up, or you find that it has cracked because it's been sitting in your wallet, which also happens to my debit/credit cards.

With 7 thousand or so empty seats, how are they going to accommodate pay on the day fans?

What was wrong with how things used to be? Things were far from perfect but did we really need change?
Our system was old fashioned, and dated, but it certainly got results. The rest of the league may have moved on and criticised us for our outdated methods but I never minded that. It was us against the world.
Don't get me wrong, it was often slow, tedious and boring. You'd be waiting around just crying out for a bit of entertainment to make the whole process bearable. But in the end we'd get the result and it'd justify the means.
We don't like change round these parts.
This Cartwright blokes got a lot to answer for.
I blame the men in suits.
SwipeCardSystem Out.

I spent most of my time at Newcastle High School (as it then was) arguing that I was best suited to a job as a "lamp lighter" - or I would have been if they still had gas lamps. Most of the teachers tended to agree with me but in the end I had to settle for a career as a Customs Officer. I often think back to how good my working life might have been if it hadn't been for "progress".

I expect each category - adult, child, senior citizen etc. - will flash a different light. Staff will stop anyone who does not match the category of light that flashes when they put their card to the barcode reader.

Sorry Thorney but I disagree a little with the statement 'fair play to the club for all they've done with improving the infrastructure and facilities There's no doubt that certain things have improved (excellent academy for one) some of which you have mentioned, but there's still a lot more 'smaller' things they could do with the ground. 1. Give the ground a bit of a painting. It looks bloody grotty from the outside. 2. More Stoke related flags, pictures, scarfs, banners etc inside and outside of the ground. If you walk past the back of the stands from the outside, there's lots of parts of the ground that could be improved on this front. If you take Liverpool for example, we could learn a lot from what they have done in this area and gives the ground more of a intimidating yet passionate feel 3. Sound system from The Boothern End could still be better and I'm 33. At the last game, hearing announcements of ex players etc wasn't great, and people around were saying the same. 4. Bigger – scoreboard. It's better than what we had but it still could be bigger and again from the Boothern End is visible but could be improved. Or stick another one in the opposite corner that's not filled in. These may only be little things but would add to the match-day experience would it not?[/quote] Point 2 is bob-on. I hate that grotty Perspex. Leicester cover theirs with some ace pics of past heroes. It personalises the ground and also makes it far more pleasant to look at.

Oh and the tannoy is no better in the seddon stand either!

what about upgrading tickets on the day? You should be able to do that on the phone or at the ticket office with no problem. Pay the difference and the computer will be updated for that match. That's assuming that they have got a half decent computer program.
