Well done Ryan. However, it's going to be hard for him to get on the pitch as he's fourth choice.

It depends on how you look at it. The purists will no doubt see him as a thug. Whereas proper football fans would see Shawcross neutralising the main Italian threat in the Euro's... (Good defending to me)

Great news! Would like to think he'll get a good run out against San Marino - but you never know with England. Great for the lad and great for the club. Happy birthdee Ryan! Sort of hope he wouldn't have much to do against San Marino

Great news. Thoroughly deserved.
Shame it'll reopen the whole Ramsey thing for the hard of thinking (and Arsenal fans) which are the same thing.
I don't think 95% of these trolls have watched the tackle.

Great news for Ryan. Credit to himself and Stoke. Hope he gets capped this time. Remember being stood on the terrace at Cardiff and thinking 'who the fuck is Ryan Shawcross'! Then he popped up with the winner.

I wonder if Hodgson asked Coleman if he'd asked Ramsey if he was ok with this?

I wonder if Hodgson asked Coleman if he'd asked Ramsey if he was ok with this? I hope he checked with the Ferdinands and Arsene Wenger, too.

Congratulations Ryan, well deserved with consistent high level of performances over a long period. After Jagielka and Lescott's performances in the last game I won't be surprised to see Cahill and Ryan start the San Marino game.
Oh has anyone checked if this call up is ok with Ramsey? ;D

Congratulations, Ryan... Injury Watch this weekend - Cahill, Lescott, Jagielka... I wouldn't wish injury on any of them, but...I do hope that Cahill and Jagielka get a tiny, insignificant muscle tweak that keeps them out of the two England games and has no future ramifications except on weekends when they play Stoke.

A well deserved call up for Ryan, and hopefully he'll get a chance to play and show his worth, but if Crouch cannot get into the squad ahead of an injured Carroll when he's the top English goalscorer in the Prem then his international career is over once Woy is in charge.

I know he hasnt picked Crouch but can we put the Hodgson-anti Stoke myth to bed now?

I know he hasnt picked Crouch but can we put the Hodgson-anti Stoke myth to bed now? No. I think it's a perfectly valid view to take to be honest. He's not once been to watch Crouch or Shawcross. Crouch is the TOP English striker so far this season and yet he's picked Carrol who's hardly kicked a ball - pathetic.

Stuart Pearce just interviewed on Sky, says that Woy wang him to ask about Shawcross. What exactly would Stuart have to say about him? I thought some no mark Chelsea reserve on loan at Wolves was better than him?! In fairness though he said that Ryan's played a lot of games at the top level and that he deserves his chance and 'good luck to him'

Crouch is the TOP English striker so far this season and yet he's picked Carrol who's hardly kicked a ball - pathetic. so Woy has an anti-Stoke policy still because he's only picked one Stoke player? Crouch not being picked makes sense given that Hodgson has said he's looking to the future and wants more youth in the side, plus the fact that Hodgson said that after the Euros incident he wouldn't pick Crouch unless he saw him as someone going straight into the side. It's not "Pathetic" at all, it's simply football management; Hodgson wants younger players coming through, regardless of lack of goals at the moment the players picked should easily be enough against these two teams (neither are anything close to the standard of Prem games) so it actually makes perfect sense! i honestly think that some on here would still bloody moan and say "Poor ickle Stoke everyone hates us" even if we had 11 players in the England first team and were voted the most popular club to watch on the planet! There's always some bloody excuse for some to be paranoid on here

Mick: I would support him if his intention is to look to younger players and (for me) Gerrard, Lampard and the like would now be thanked and left out of future plans as long as we have young players coming through to play instead of them. However, if Roy wants a 'big man option' for England, how the fuck can he pick a player that has hardly kicked a ball this season when the most 'in-form' English striker has voiced his strong desire to play for England? True Crouch declined to be a 'stand-by' for the Euros. Of course he did since he was again, the most in-form English striker at the time and ignored. He was then asked to discard family holiday plans on the OFF CHANCE that he MIGHT be required as last option. Again Carrol was selected having hardly played for Liverpool and been SHITE when he did.
I rate Carrol and he IS the future but, at this moment, there is absolutely NIL justification for his selection.
