We have no one who can take the game by the scruff of the neck and get us on the front foot. I like both Powell and Clucas but neither will dominate a midfield and when they are not on their game the opposition tends to run the midfield...Allen's return might give both Clucas and Powell a kick up the arse because at the moment they know they are first names on the team sheet and way ahead of the other midfield contenders Oakley-Boothe and Thompson.

Change the whole XI. It’s a meaningless game that we’re probably better off losing anyway. But we can give a game to the other half of the squad and actually it’ll be a great test for them. Butland Edwards Collins Souttar Lindsay Cousins Thompson Oakley-Boothe Ince Afobe Tymon I know you won't change your view about being a meaningless game. But gauging the reaction on here and some stellar performances from the kiddies it was far from meaningless. Better off losing LMFAO

Butland Edwards Collins Souttar Lindsay Cousins Thompson Oakley-Boothe Ince Afobe Tymon I would be interested to understand why we would be better off losing? Surely with such a big squad we really need the fringe players to get some serious match time. Also the likes of brown and Fletcher would benefit from more time on the pitch. I think the above side you have suggested is actually decent...but swap Lindsay for Tymon and Tymon for McClean and most of the squad will have some game time before sunday. if we make the next round the same principles apply.

You think if they actually spent 5 minutes looking at our last games 4 games they would see we have now not conceded for 4 games in succession...Blackpool Leeds Newcastle and Millwall. I know it's early days and 2 friendlies and a div 1 side but considering defence was our biggest problem last season rather than scoring 4 successive clean sheets is actually rather encouraging.

Wow it must have taken the Guardian 'journo' about 10 minutes to put that together so no surprise it's a lazy assessment. Having said that I took a look at the BBC sports website and there isn't a single article regarding the start of the Championship, maybe they will realise that the champ season starts tonight at some time today. In fact there is more coverage of the wonderful women's game. Can anyone point me to a UK online site that concentrates on Championship football rather than Premier league? Ta Interesting that the Guardian have named Tyrese Campbell amongst their 3 players to watch for the season. the BBC article is focussed on EFL www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/54102505Ive been looking myself, most are just quite brief predictions type articles like this www.90min.com/posts/championship-2020-21-season-preview-new-signings-key-players-rising-stars-predictions-moreby contrast they reckon we will be lucky to survive relegation Maybe there is a gap in the market there for a more thorough Championship preview? Thanks spit for info much appreciated. Does seem odd considering the popularity of the championship and the size of many of the clubs that it doesn't get more coverage.

Who the hell invited that idiot along George Andrews🙄 Is that the 2nd interviewer? It really, really annoys me when an interviewer asks a question and doesn't pay any attention to the answer. Its just lack of basic journalism skills MON talks about the blend of experience and new blood in the squad for 2 minutes, and the following question is basically a repetition of the answer he has just been given He's fortunate that MON is so polite. I would have been tempted to ask if he had bothered listen to what had just been said to him. Apologies but I hate crap journalism esp when they stick to a list of question regardless of the answers they are given. The question about watching the opposition on videos is just inane. Angela is very good though! George Andrews could never be referred to as a journalist or even a broadcaster so what is he?

Oh boy , MON is right we need a good start, build that elusive commodity momentum. Out on the 'B' of the Bang of the starters gun , if we're still allowed to quote Linford Christie!? Lets hope so Gods. In the past few seasons the lyrics from Pink Floyd's Time was more appropriate... 'No one told you when to run, you missed the starting gun' Couldn't resist quoting my favourite Floyd track, a poignant ode to a life and opportunity ebbing away.

He sounds promising. But I am more excited that we finally have a player with a genuine colour for a name. No Whites, Greys, Blacks,Greens,or until today Browns the nearest we have had is an 'off green', not sure that's a colour and a misspelt Violet. History in the making !!

At the start of last season I successfully picked the 3 actually promoted teams. You could see they were the stand out teams by some distance along with Brentford...should have had a flutter on them This season and although it's early doors there doesn't really seem to be a stand out team except for Norwich. Norwich cantered this league just over a year ago. At the moment they haven't lost any key players and their manager has been there and done it. It would be a big surprise if they didn't finish in the top 6 if not automatic promotion. The only negative is that they have surprising brought in 10 new players! That could be a selection issue. Other than Norwich you would expect Brentford to be top 6 again. So far they haven't lost any of their star players but you would expect at least one to go. But Ivan Toney 9 (a 1 in 2 striker) looks a very smart bit of recruitment...yet again. The manager seems to be a smart cookie and I expect them to be there or there abouts. Other than Norwich and Brentford, all others look hard to pick, Watford and Bournemouth both have new managers so unknown quantities and out of the rest for me only Swansea impressed last year. As for us I would be very surprised if we didn't finish top half. MON's record over quite a large slice of a season has been consistent suggesting top half at least. Such is the bat shit crazy aspect of this league the play offs at least will involve at least 8 teams vying for the 4 slots. For that reason we have a shout at playoffs.

Thanks for that, Malcolm! You are referring to the day I became known as "Mr MRT incident number 51." It was, in fact the third time I have called out a Mountain Rescue Team but the previous 2 occasions I was making the call on behalf of someone else. So, I suppose after over 55 years of mountain walking it was about my time. As far as age is concerned one of the team members was at least as old as me! And, I have put the hours in myself as I was in an MRT team myself for several years when I lived and worked within sight of Dartmoor. In answer to Questionable's point about insurance. I'd happily pay for an insurance policy but only if it became compulsory for all walkers/climbers. Indeed when I have walked and climbed abroad I've always had rescue insurance. We are amazingly lucky to have free rescue by MRTs in this country and free helicopter rescue when necessary - and, much to my amazement, I was helicoptered down to the car on Tuesday whilst my companion had to make her own way down Stickle Ghyll at the end of a traumatic day with my dog as well as hers - to be honest she was as much a star as the MRT members. Living where I do I see the various MRTs and the Air Ambulance at work pretty well every day - there was a major incident to rescue a climber last month who had taken a very serious fall on Castle Rock of Triermain and the helicopter was visible from my front window as it lifted him to hospital after a 2 hour rescue operation. Like most serious walkers who live in the mountains, I donate to my local MRT EVERY year and I have a standing order to give a modest monthly payment to the Air Ambulance. I will be making a one off donation to the Ambleside MRT once I have spoken to them this week. As to my foot, my GP (like the MRT doctor) thinks it is only a soft tissue injury but wants to speak again tomorrow when he will make the decision as to whether I need an x-ray at the local cottage hospital. It is feeling less painful every day. That just leaves the dog. Luckily I live on a mountain side which she knows like the back of her hand. As it doesn't have sheep on it at the moment I can shove her through the dog gate in the garden wall and she will charge around within sight of the cottage but sometimes up to 500 feet above it and will come back after 15 minutes. If she couldn't do that I would have to find a neighbour to take her for walks. NOW THE IMPORTANT BITI have an app on my phone which gives me a Grid Reference automatically - it is called something like GridReferenceFreeOS. Every serious walker should download the app. The Police control room also asked me if I had a more modern FREE app which works all over the world. It is called what3words and allocates a unique set of three words to every 3 metre square on the surface of the earth. I have it and gave them the 3 words which they used to confirm the grid reference was correct. I would recommend that everyone downloads the what3words app even if they are not serious walkers - it could change/save your life!Hey Forny did you ever have to get the Dartmoor rescue out when you were in Devon? It happened to me when I lived in Tavistock. I was on a run with a friend as part of the Hash House Harriers club and we had a run over Dartmoor at nighttime in the middle of December. We lost the trail and got very very disoriented in terms of the direction we should be going. No mobile phones at that time and no obvious houses or farms. It actually was quite scary, thankfully the Dartmoor Rescue was called out by our other runners, helicopter and land rovers and they found us an hour later. I know your circumstances were different but we had to do a walk of shame when we got to the pub where everyone was back safely and found our adventure highly amusing. Since that incident I have always respected the wild outdoors and ensure I am prepared if I go hiking. Glad all is well.

Burton Park Wanderers' FA Cup debut at home to AFC Sudbury will be broadcast live on the BBC Sport website, iPlayer and Red Button on Tuesday, 1 September. Really pleased to see BBC covering these games. Welcome boost for the clubs concerned. I am a huge critic of the BBC (remotely from the USA ). Old Auntie has declined rapidly over the last few years, even the Radio stations 5 and 4 are now so left wing and woke that I struggle to listen without my BP rising. But credit where its due and their screening/streaming of non league games is to be applauded. I am an avid follower of the NWCL (because of my connection with Whitchurch Alport) and good to see they are also streaming Maine Road v Squires Gate two NWCL clubs. I really hope that while fans are not allowed into top level football they go and check out their local non-league club. I promise you it will be an enjoyable experience.

I wish him well but to be honest he really wasn't much use.People loved him for his effort but his finishing was woeful. I am struggling to think of a striker whose headers would uncannily hit the keeper...a couple of metres out when it seemed easier to score he would head straight at the keeper!! Even his wonder goal at Man City was a scuffed shot that went between Harts legs credit to him for the run that got him there but the finish was somewhat fortunate. Admittedly Gregory's finishing is poor, but his hold up play is superior to Diouf, in fact most of our recent strikers Afobe, Campbell, Vokes are better. Only the absolute arsehole that was Berahino was worse and I would agree that it was a mystery why Saido got so many starts and Diouf didnt. I am hoping that Fletcher proves to be the first natural goalscorer along with Campbell since Crouch. It would be great to have 2 instinctive finishers in the same strting xi

We have never been serious about having a heavyweight Head of recruitment/ Director of Football even though we recruited fat boy Carto! But surely such a role is a fundamental crucial appointment these days. You only have to look around at clubs who have got this right and flourished, Brentford have 2 DOF's one for UK and one for overseas. I must have missed the hype around Millwall's fabulous recruitment success that must have impressed the board. For a club who should have ambitions for a quick return to the Premier League this appointment smacks of a small time cheap option. But lets face it our main recruitment strategy is perusing the out of contract available list and he should be able to do that. I genuinely wish anyone well in a role with SCFC why wouldn't I? But when we are crying out for an experienced DOF with serious contacts with influence and knowledge to bring new ideas to a struggling club this is a totally underwhelming appointment. Also look at the recruitment challenge we will have if we get promoted? 'News at Den'....christ on a bike did he come up with that stunning name!!!

I hope more spectators go and support their local non league clubs. It'a a vital source of income. It baffles me that many of the so call 'passionate about football' fans have never set foot in a non league ground but prefer to sit behind their screens and watch the sport they 'love'. An ideal opportunity arises as quickly as Sept 1st when the FA Cup commences with preliminary rounds and a few local teams are at home these include Hanley Northwich Congleton and Stone. Why not go £5/6 admission, cheap beer and pies and a bit of fresh air?

Why are the footballing authorities pursuing subjective rulings like 'deception' 'not disclosing details' and in the case of Man City 'a failure to co-operate'. I am no lawyer but it seems almost impossible to prove these cases so why bother, change the rules instead. It seems that again the inability to pursue a flimsy charge has seen Sheff Weds avoid the trap door this season to the detriment of Charlton. Who will of course pursue this to no avail. At least it means that unless Sheff Weds have an outrageously good season next season they won't be play off contenders and will struggle to sign new players

I think I heard that Fulhams average age was on the high side and they managed it through extra play off games. Signing of these older players is a bit of a worry. But it seems our only recruitment strategy at the moment is Barb in admin checking the out of contract list. That strategy is going to inevitably take you down the ageing player route.

I have to laugh at the reaction on here to MON signing 3 rather ageing players. Any sign that Mark Hughes was signing a player 30+ was greeted with howls of derision, yet when MON does it they are sensible pragmatic signings Mikel on the face of it seems a smart signings, as a DM you need experience and someone who can read the game and lets face it Glen Whelan at 33 was still doing ok even at International level. Let's hope he doesn't turn out to be another Darren Fletcher Chester is a wasted squad place and an impediment to a couple of talented kiddies who will have their chances limited and the defensive side of our team looks to be a little on the old side. Considering the defence was the biggest problem last season, not sure that the addition of Mikel and fox will significantly improve us. I am baffled at the addition of Fletcher and will reserve judgement after we see which forward leaves. The only other addition we need is a pacy winger, our attack at times has looked pedestrian. Fletcher won't improve that aspect of our game.

The top 6 prem teams will love this and have been gunning for it for years. Very sad for the competition and smaller clubs. Trust me going forward this will be the norm Covid or no Covid. Next tick in the prem requirement box is canning the league cup 😣😣 Made the semi finals one legged only next season in the League cup too Thin end of the wedge for the gradual elimination of the comp....all sacrificed to pander to a handful of teams playing champions league who have the resources and squad to handle volume of games 😣😣

Not sure if this is right but only Farke at Norwich and Warnock of the current managers have got team promoted from the Champs Both are probably the stand out managers in this league. Warnock has an impressive record you can't ignore and Farkes Norwich stormed this league just a season ago. There isn't much else in this league probably Frank although he is helped massively by stellar recruitment from 2 DOFs. The likes of Rowett Harris Neil have not yet shown they have the nouse to get over the line. As for MON his success will be determined by his recruitment. An area where all our past managers apart from Hughes and Pulis have floundered.

It's a signing that underlines our almost complete lack of scouting. We have known we needed a left back since Pieters went. So in all this time all we do is browse out of contract players and rely on a few contacts the manager has. For a crucial aspect of developing a football club of our size our scouting remains laughable. Last season all we could find was an out of contract 35 yr old Ward and now an out of contract Fox. The good news of course is he is free and younger than Ward let's hope he delivers.

Prior to kick-off, less than 20 minutes coverage for the playoff final on BBC Radio 5, and there's no commentary of the match either. Wow! It's arguably one of the most important games of the season and bbc can't be arsed? They have no problem live commentary for meaningless prem games. Truly shocking
