There's one relegation place unless they can win an appeal!

Can see Charlton fighting that, insisting it is imposed this season.
Thought the rules were that if it relegated a club it’s imposed in that season. If not it carries over to next season. -12 this season would relegate them and save Charlton. That’s the EFL rules as I understood?

This is just sick and wrong. Anyone laughing at this take heed - it could be us one day and there will be nobody prepared to stand up and fight for or with us.
The EFL need shaking up. The bloke is investing in his club and area and the rules are doing nothing but stopping it, all because they think it is a way to stop rogue owners destroying clubs once they've faked their way past their 'not fit for purpose' fit and proper persons test.

I agree with the spirit of your comment but the reality is that whatever you think of the rules many clubs, Stoke included, are working hard and making sacrifices to keep within them. Sheffield Wednesday’s owners chose to walk a very risky path in exchange for a better shot at the riches of the Prem. That’s 100% on them although it is a massive shame for their fans.

Why would they be down, 12 points is easily clawed back through a whole season, it certainly dents any promotion ambitions but definitely does not relegate them from the off

Whilst I tend to agree with you, that the letter of the law means that this is not acceptable, I strongly recon that the letter of the law is "not fit for purpose"

They won't attract any players this summer. When the odds are released, I'd be surprised if they aren't odds-on

Clubs should just get transfer bans for 4 or more Windows. What a shit season this will be for Wednesday fans.

4 more wins needed than 3 other teams in a season, not a certainty to be relagated. Be a challenge, but an achievable one.

FFP means that clubs that previously bought their way to success (Man City and Chelsea) can buy future success, but other clubs cannot. It’s designed to prevent irresponsible ownership but it has the unwelcome (or welcome, depending on your perspective), effect of keeping the big clubs big and the smaller clubs in their lane.

The EFL make it up as they go along don't they.
That absolute circus needs a bigger overhaul than our playing squad, and that takes some doing.

Stoke might be working within these rules, or aiming for it, but at last count the Chief Executive, on behalf of the owners and board, was pretty much relaying a story not too dissimilar to mine, in that they thought the EFL and their rules were restricting what is essentially one of the largest leagues in Europe and is dumbing down the competition in a race to the bottom. I agree with them. Owners should be allowed to invest what they want once they own the club and the issues with rogue owners is at the door of the EFL and their test. The irony being that a number of clubs have pretty much gone to the wall (one completely out of existence)with their restrictive rules and non existent fit and proper test in place. Charlton Athletic will be another one, who have just been given roughly 40-50 days to prove who their owners are or the EFL are removing their license and expelling them from the league. How has that happened?

How has that happened? It is a relatively simply change to the rules, by letting idiots with more money than sense "gift" income to a club, rather than the current one size fits all "live within your means"..... yet they signed off on the Wigan take over (?)

The 12 point deduction being applied next season isn't down to the EFL...it even says that in the actual tweet a few posts above! It's an independent panel that have deferred the deduction, not the EFL.

With such a slump in form since Christmas it makes you wonder if most people at the club actually knew what was coming. Weren't they in the top 3 or 4 whe we beat them on boxing day?
