I used to like Ruel Fox a lot at Norwich and then Newcastle as part of that Keegan team. Mick Mills tried to sign him for us. What a good player. That game v Bayern will always remember Norwich for, was it Jeremy Goss? Wasn’t it Louis Donowa on loan from Norwich?

That game is famous for the torquay corner flag being taller than junior bent Also if I recall correctly the late Justin Fashanu was in the Torquay matchday squad. Went to the game without a ticket and managed to blag a seat in the Torquay stand. 28 years eh? - jeez where did that go? I think Fashanu was Torquay’s assistant manager and the first black managerial appointment in the football league.

You're right. Passed back from a good way out with spin on it. Was a fantastic through ball 😄 Foley was about to clear the ball, when a Kevin Pressman yelled ‘mine!’ and Foley passed back instead of clearing his lines. I also remember the junior supporter penalty shoot out before the match. Stoke’s munchkin sized kids versus Torquay’s strapping fifth formers 😁 I remember Justin Fashanu getting some stick as he’d just come out as gay.

Not riding my motorcycle, as well as all of the above. Being able to make stupid bloke plans but not knowing when they can come to fruition.

The old bikers method was to use fairy liquid. There should be plenty of anti fogging products for bikers visors/goggles. Might be worth a try.

I'd be reasonably happy if ITV did some replays of Star Soccer. Thats what Sundays were all about. Around the same period BBC2 used to show a live Sunday League Cricket match, when the 40 over game was the new "big thing". Always an argument in our house for Star Soccer or The High Chaperal 😁

Newcastle must have been at home, for it to be on their local Radio. It’s the 1-0 home defeat in early 1985, as Keith Bertschin is mentioned who I don’t think played at St James earlier that season.

My Dad always used to (still does) rave about Tony Currie’s displays against Stoke. I read that he beat a Stoke player then bowed to the crowd, then beat a second player before bowing to the crowd again. Probably uniquely amongst the 1970s Mavericks, he was a married man and lead a pretty much Non controversial life off the pitch.

Ginola Newcastle in the 90s at the vic. Probably the first opposing player I saw get a standing ovation from Stoke fans( I think). He was brilliant . He got dogs abuse! Ludicrous dive to get Clarkson sent off, utterly classless. He was clearly bemused by the wroth of the Stoke fans for the rest of the game and couldn't wait to get off the pitch. Peter Beardsley on the other hand was a class act, he got applauded by the Stoke fans I remember he got presented with a mountain bike in front of the Boothen End as man of the match. He was greeted with warm applause that turned into a chant of ‘There’s only one ugly Bastard’ 😁😂

Evostik league north played today. So much for no public gatherings. Over 3200 at south shields vs Scarborough. Edit it was against FC United not Scarborough. Most non league played yesterday with some postponements due to Coronavirus. Bradford Park Avenue had nearly 700 fans in attendance, up from their usual 250. I wouldn’t be surprised if other non league clubs had a similar spike in attendance, as they were actively encouraging fans from league clubs to attend. Uttoxeter races had 10,000 plus attending yesterday (so I’m led to believe) as you say, so much for public gatherings. I’d really love to go to some non league next week but the government may well have all mass attendances banned by then. I’m also conscious that it might be a good idea to stay put and not to travel.

The early months of 1985 were absolutely dreadful. The Bradford fire as mentioned. The Birmingham-Leeds riot on the same day resulted in a fatality, if you view the trouble on YouTube the scale is just staggering. We had the Luton-Millwall incident around the same time, followed by Heysel later in the season. Anyone who attended the Victoria Ground could witness fighting on the terracing regularly. It’s hard to believe we resorted to fences, but who do we blame, beleaguered football clubs or hooligans? What has the Bradford fire got to do with "hooligans"? Also, fences were erected to stop pitch invasions, which over 95% of the time were nothing to do with "hooligans". Early 1985

I was reflecting on the atmosphere and events related to football in early 1985 and the feeling that it was a dreadful time for football supporters, and I’m in no way comparing the Bradford fire with hooliganism. Easy to see that if you read the post. If you think fences were erected (wrongly) for reasons unrelated to hooliganism and a flawed vision of crowd control then I can’t agree with you.

BJS already getting wrote off by many, but everytime the lad has stepped up in class he’s delivered. He has all the attributes to make this a nightmare fight for Canelo. I do think Canelo might stop him late on but I certainly wouldn’t be surprised If Billy got a points verdict A clever Boxer who moves in and out intelligently building up points. Very often goes on the back foot in later rounds when he’s in front.

The Scott one was definately against Pompey. Probably the worst miss I've seen live and to cap it off we went on to lose 2-0 Haven't seen the Brooke one...he was fairly bang average though It was at the Stoke End, and the Pompey fans were jumping around like they’d scored after that miss.

An MZ these days looks more quirky than ugly, and like any old bike are appreciating in value. It handles very well and has a surprisingly torquey engine for a two stroke. I had a 750 Harris Bonneville, lovely machine, but I didn’t realise anything on Gods Earth could vibrate so much. My old man used to have a bright Yellow MZ150 back in the 80's it was an absolute tank of a bike! He wasn't the best of riders and came off frequently but the thing was bullet proof! I have had several bike's myself all modern Japanese bikes which cost a fist full of dollars for any tumble. That said I don't think I have spent 15 minutes trying to kick start a bike in the morning as he did! Mine is 41 years old and has never been restored, it just keeps going, so bloody tough.

It does read like a thriller, and you feel bad about enjoying it. It’s a book that’s phone book thick and I read it in three days. Same mate. Felt guilty but raced through it. A really good book and if nothing else, it demonstrates the importance of computerised policing. They were agonisingly close to catching that awful cunt on so many occasions Some of the detective work was brilliant - the £5 note enquiry, the Sunderland detective who worked out the Ripper tapes was a hoax pretty quickly. But there was so much garbage, almost always from the top of the police hierarchy.

‘Wicked beyond Belief’ is a brilliant book about the hunt for the Yorkshire Ripper. It’s in ‘The Works’ book shop for £4. Great read. Read this too yep. Reads like a thriller. Awful to think it's real. But a fantastic book as you say. Really well put together. It does read like a thriller, and you feel bad about enjoying it. Yes mate, two stroke and very interesting. They made some of the most influential Grand Prix motorcycles ever (Barry Sheene’s Suzuki was basically Plagiarised MZ technology). One of the rings on the Audi badge indirectly represents MZ too. Really?! Did NOT know that. Cool fact Big Barry Sheene fan too (who isn't really?! ) One ring represents DKW. After the war DKW made bikes and cars in West Germany. DKW assets in East Germany became state owned and rebranded MZ eventually. It’s worth reading Matt Oxley’s book called ‘Stealing Speed’ about MZ’s Grand Prix motorcycles and how Suzuki ‘acquired’ the technology.

1979 MZ 250/1. My previous bike was a speed triple 1050. The MZ is a hoot to ride and great to own. I’m looking for an air cooled BMW twin to complement it. I bought the MZ because it appealed to me as a well designed bike and I have a sense of humour 😁 Interesting bikes those MZ's - very distinctive looking - two stroke aren't they? I bought the MZ because it appealed to me as a well designed bike and I have a sense of humour 😁 Fair play to you sir Many years ago I used to be a member of the bike club at Stoke Polytech and there was a guy there who had an MZ250... he'd had it ported and and an expansion box fitted but it was still an ugly MZ and was the subject of much piss taking. I used to ride a tuned 750 Bonnie back in them days and we had an assortment of bikes, from CG125's through to bigger stuff like mine, a couple of Jap 750's and a Duke 900. We'd mostly stick together when we were out on a run but once we we got back within 15 mile of so of Stoke, the bigger bikes would normally break away and race home. It was always a source of wonder to me how the MZ managed to cling to our shirt tails, especially on country roads. I used to fix up/restore old GPO rotary dial telephones and trim phones. Got loads of em now, so looking for another indoors old school tech hobby. Got myself an old motorcycle so it’s good to be back on the classic bike scene again. I also collect Double Diamond beer memorabilia though I rarely buy much now. I’ve started to collect memorabilia to do with Bradford Park Avenue FC.

Joking apart its not completely inconceivable that the season will be wound up shortly or completed behind closed doors. There was a Smallpox outbreak in Bradford in 1962, that caused the postponement of football league games involving Bradford City and Bradford Park Avenue. So the situation isn’t without precedent.
