Returns tonight with a 'debate' style format.
Great that the beeb are doing something to try and give footy junkies a fix to feed their habit in the absence of games, but will be interesting to see if the usual roll call of pundits is really going to make this format work?
Perhaps more suited to the observations or journalistic skills of a Barney Ronay or Jonathan Wilson type as opposed to maybe an Ian Wright or Keown?

If I’d have known it was going to be on tele, I wouldn’t have listened to the podcast the other day! Will probably still watch it.

Is this where they're debating best Premier League captain?
I'd say Tony Adams followed by Roy Keane.

Living for the Big Match Revisited and today’s BBC Retro FA Cup show was really good. When football was better...

Brilliant reeling off the names Agreed, get the nostalgia flowing with some epic games from the past as opposed to listening to Wrighty et al mangling the usual clichés. Having said that i'm still not succumbing to the temptation to watch a rerun of our solitary Cup Final appearance to alleviate the lockdown boredom. 😉

As I'll watch the MOTD programme later. A bit of fun out of the list select your top 5 captains from the Premier League era.
Shearer Vidic kompany Vieira Terry Gerrard Adams Keane King Robson P.Neville Henderson Noble Southgate.
Mine. Terry a rock for years for Chelsea one of England's best. Keane that great united team under fergie. Adams a leader for Arsenal and England. Gerrard Mr Liverpool great captain. Kompany a warrior definitely missed by them. That header in Manc Derby one v Leicester. (Vincent selected just ahead of Vieira) Tough as he captained the invincibles.
See how many you get that they get.

Been watching Big Match games today from the 70's. Some great stuff, but boy did they have so much time back then on the ball. Forgot what a weird looking ground Stamford Bridge was then too.

Was watching the MOTD FA Cup quarter finals edition yesterday....makes me feel just a little older when..... a) West Brom v Forest. Regis & Cunnigham, Forest wearing a simple Adidas strip that looked a size too small....Kenny Burns tache b) Arsenal v Watford. The Clock End seemed huge...the offside decision that wasn't given, and Watford went up the other end & scored Linesmen & FA Cup eh Arsenal? c) Pat Partridge, the FIFA badge on his ref shirt the size of a plate.....and no VAR d)Motson/Davies/Gubba.....

I really enjoyed it. It’s on again next Saturday I believe. Several things struck me. The sizes of the crowds packed in and standing. The positioning of the Referees was notably different than today. I forget the match but Pat Partridge( remember him), was right there in the penalty area, or on the goal line in the thick of it. Oh and of course the short shorts.

I'd be reasonably happy if ITV did some replays of Star Soccer. Thats what Sundays were all about. Around the same period BBC2 used to show a live Sunday League Cricket match, when the 40 over game was the new "big thing".

Don't buy into all this when football was football nonsense and how it was so much better back then but do love watching old World Cups on You Tube. 82 without doubt the best, South Africa and 1966 ( sorry) the ones I rarely watch and weren't great games in them in general but never get bored of some of the classic games. W Germany v France and the classic Netherlands v Argentina games the standouts of all time.

A similar package of programmes off The Big Match instead of re runs of Kojak or some 10 min hash loosely under the name of "World Of Sport" would be ideal. ITVs loss is Youtube gain

Always someone on You Tube who pipes up when football was football, I'd like to see today's players do it on those pitches etc. Boring old cliches of course, is great to see again but the whole is so much better thing is a nonsense. Was of it's time and if course the players back then could never keep up today but so what? Not sure why this constant comparison....old stuff always so much better of course in many eyes.

Been watching Big Match games today from the 70's. Some great stuff, but boy did they have so much time back then on the ball. Forgot what a weird looking ground Stamford Bridge was then too. This may lead to someone being able to answer an odd question I have. Didnt Goodison Park used to have semi circle things behind each goal or did I dream it, and, more pertinently why? I know I had forgotten about the blue three wheelers until another poster mentioned them.

Attachment DeletedYes but I don't know why Unless it was for the same reason that the Boothen, the Stretford end etc etc had to have an area cordoned off for a while to help stop goalkeepers getting pelted with missiles
