I'd never seen this before. Mark Chamberlain on the Sooty Show back in 1983, with Matthew Corbett saying he hadn't made it for Stoke City himself because he'd 'had a bad leg that day'. Made me smile in a rubbish week. Any other fictional Stoke players or trialists? Greg Kelly in Coronation Street. Any others?

For a few short weeks Chamberlain was the hottest footballing talent on the planet.
Didn’t last long unfortunately.

If you saw any of the series "It will be Alright on the Night" with Dennis Norden, the filming of this scene became an out take. The actor, Kevin Whateley gets distracted as he says "sorry I lost it there as Newcastle just scored" (unfortunately for both the production crew and us)

Brenda had healthy lungs.

Newcastle must have been at home, for it to be on their local Radio.

Alf Garnett cheered on the hammers v Stoke in an episode of Till death us do part in late 60's. By the way, I enjoyed the remake one off on BBC 4 last week even though it was PC. Hancocks half hour was good too last night and Steptoe and son on next Tuesday.

Newcastle must have been at home, for it to be on their local Radio. It’s the 1-0 home defeat in early 1985, as Keith Bertschin is mentioned who I don’t think played at St James earlier that season.

Beardsley I thought...mentions him setting the goal up and a deflection and ball to the back post. I think is the Dyson own goal at our place.

Steino’s goals against Man U were on in the background for a scene in Coronation Street. I think Kevin Webster was watching. At the time one of the script writers was a Stoke fan.
Nick Hancock played a Stoke fan in An Evening With Gary Lineker
One of the characters in Bostock’s Cup was based on Neil Adams
Mick Mills was on Question of Sport the night before the 1987 FA Cup final
Anneka Rice had 24 hours to compile a group of football legends for a charity match on an episode of Challenge Anneka, and she recruited Alan Ball who was Stoke manager at the time
Tony “Zico” Kelly was in Bread and Goodnight Sweetheart

Jenny Powell trained with the Stoke team on BBC2 show No Limits. I thought was Mick Mills on Challenge Anneka but you could be right.

I couldn’t remember whether it was Mills or Ball and thought the law of averages pointed to Ball because of Mills’ appearance on Question of Sport. Now I can remember my mixed emotions. Excited to see the Stoke manager appear on a tv show out of context, despondent that Mid-table Mick had infiltrated my Friday night tv fun with his sad moustache and gloomy demeanour. Strange the things you remember. I was doing a jigsaw puzzle at the time.

I was trying to remember the show but you've mentioned it, was 'No Limits' with Jenny Powell. Remember back in the day being amazed that my team Stoke City were actually featuring on a TV show as we weren't renowned for our TV appearances in this era! Remember watching it & seeing George Berry play acting around as Jenny trained with the players on the training pitch behind the Vic!

It never fails to amaze me the amount of facts and trivia we as fans have knowledge of. It really makes the club/fan connection a unique experience that people that don't follow football will never have.

Thought this was in reference to a game away at Luton , when a supporter took a glove puppet Sooty to the game ..
Even though he famously couldn’t speak , Sooty ( not the bloke who took him , you understand ) led all the Stoke chants by actions , or whispering into it’s owners ear what songs to start
Pure comedy gold and pure Stoke

I have a couple of Sooty and Sweep glove puppets. I stuck a Stoke top on one of them (the Stoke top was actually one of them strips you used to hang in the back of your car). I took(take) them with me when I travel and take photos of them in tourist places. It's not a fetish.... I often forget to take them. I took them with me to Medinah in 2012 for the Ryder Cup and they were noticed from afar by one of the Euro golfers caddie. He was obviously a Brit because he pointed them out to the other caddy who fell apart laughing at Sooty and Sweep perched on some random blokes shoulders watching the golf.

Used to go away games together and had a spell where Sooty was a regular

I used to watch it avidly and oddly on the Stoke episode an old flame of mine at the time who sadly left us very young was randomly interviewed in Newcastle Town centre so videod it. Was set in a different town every week, was Jenny Powell and some West Ham fan.

Michael Owen (pre his brief sojourn at SCFC) had a kids "soccer school" programme on TV, which was filmed at The Brit Nick Hancock also appeared as a teacher in a BBC sitcom (think he wrote it too) and said teacher had a Stoke scarf on his bedroom door In the film version of An Audience with Gary Lineker, Bob Desbackos, played by Martin Clunes, is a travel writer who is a Stoke fanatic and bemoans about how to find out the latest result for Stoke City whilst in a train station in some obscure African country...there are numerous Stoke mentions throughout the piece Stokies here...Stokies there...Stokies every ******* where
