I love the 100 club, actually reminds me of The Wheatsheaf. This will be only my second ever visit. The only other time I went was back in 2019 to watch Sleeper Saw Sleeper at the Wheatsheaf 😁

I went Macclesfield Tuesday in their play off semi final v Worksop Town. Macc play some lovely fast moving football on their plastic pitch and deserved the 3-1 victory that came their way. Moss Rose has changed a bit since I saw Stoke play Chester there a couple of times in the early 90s and is a great venue. I sat in the main stand with a slightly obscured view for £17, quite pricey for the Northern Premier League. Easy to park up outside on the street, and the club staff were very friendly and helpful. I’ll be coming back again, I’ve no doubt they’ll overcome Marine in the NPL play off final at Macc, so they’ll be in the National League North.

Didn't we have Hans Segers on loan for a bit? One game in February 1987 away at West Brom, 1-4 loss to bring our winter run crashing down in flames.

I went Burton tonight and they were garbage, Cheltenham deserved the win no question. Burton have now lost their last eight home league games and only away form is keeping them in it. Pato’s kick and rush style is dragging them down as it’s simply not working. Direct football is fine but they need to play some football in the final third too. The Burton faithful have had enough of Pato already, maybe he’ll be let go in the summer whatever happens?

Fancy something different from the usual Indian, Chinese, Greek, Kebab, fish n chips, Pizza for tea - anyone know any decent alternative take always? I noticed a new Vietnamese place at the bottom of Piccadilly the other day, don't know if they.do takeaway, might be worth asking. Was just thinking about this place. Much as I welcome its presence, I do miss the old greasy spoon that was there for many, many years. Good greasy spoons are an endangered species now.

Does'nt Edinburgh have 3 teams? Hibs Hearts Edinburgh City ( Bottom of Scottish League 1) as we speak. I think City are the latest version of what used to be Meadowbank Thistle. You can also add The Spartans in League 2 to the list. Meadowbank Thistle were invited to move to Livingston by the council into a purpose built stadium, and changed their name to Livingston unsurprisingly. So Livingston is a Scottish equivalent of MK Dons. Edinburgh City play in Meadowbank’s old stadium which is probably the most wank football stadium in the UK.

I thought it was the opposite: Labour - economic policy left Reform UK - economic policy right At least that's how they're presented here in Svea Rike. Up to the 1990s the British Labour Party did have a left leaning economic policy - pro state ownership, sceptical of the free market and many members described themselves as socialist. However in practice when in power the Labour Party never really fully embraced socialism. The party's economic policy changed under Tony Blair - it ditched the party's commitment to state ownership and embraced the free market. Economic policy moved to the left under Corbyn but is now pretty much back where it was under Blair. Labours economic policy is more interventionist than the Tories but it is nowhere near being "left wing" in the original sense. Reform UK are right wing in terms of being socially conservative but their economic policy is way more interventionist than the Labour Party and they are commited to taking a number of industries back into public ownership - it is closer to the Labour Party's economic position from the 70s. The point I'm making is that right and left has more than one meaning. The Labour Party is left wing (progressive) in terms of it's social attitudes but right wing (committed to the free market) in terms of it's economic policy. Reform UK is right wing in terms of it's social attitudes (socially conservative) but more left wing (interventionist) in terms of it's economic policy. A lot of people who support Reform UK are working class, socially conservative ex Labour supporters who became alienated by Labours adoption of progressive social attitudes. Many voted Tory last time round having been conned into thinking that Brexit was a rejection of globalisation (it wasn't - the Tories behind Brexit are uber globalists) and the levelling up agenda would improve their lot (unsurprisingly it never happened). For over a hundred years British politics was defined in terms of left (Labour) and right (Tories) the situation is way more complicated now and the left/right two party system no longer represents where the electorate is at. Excellent summary. The first time I looked at what reform were about, I thought they resembled the Callaghan government and therefore by extension the early days of the SDP. I myself fit your description of socially conservative but left leaning political interventionism. I feel at home in the old right wing of the Labour Party which died with John Smith.

I use my old boots issued to me in Commando Helicopter Force. Brown leather made by Altberg and I was lucky to get the super light special force versions. Look like they’ll last forever, only real snag is I think they lack a bit of grip here and there, otherwise brill for nowt.

I went Curzon Ashton v Banbury yesterday, national league north. Only £8 to get in if you have a £10 membership (which they sent me for nothing for some reason). Nice new(ish) build ground, which you can park next to for nothing. Good game in poor weather and Curzon played some nice stuff and scored three good goals in a 4-1 win. Might return again soon if they’re involved in the play offs.

Big game for the Vale today away to a Burton team ahead of them by 6 points but win today and Vale will be 3 points behind with a game in hand and it will feel like 'lift off' for the Darren Moore era. Let's hope Burton can get something here 🙏 Burton’s recent home form has been poor to say the least. I wouldn’t be surprised if Vale win 1-0 but hope that the lager men can get the win too.

When I read Band of Brothers by Stephen E Ambrose, he quotes extensively from the letters and writings of the eloquent David Kenyon Webster. I subsequently read Websters Parachute Infantry book because of this (it’s excellent). I’d love to read his out of print book about Sharks, which I believe was an influence on the film Jaws. Very pricey to buy online (or anywhere).

1874 Northwich 0 - 1 Hednesford after 6 minutes, 1874 down to 10 men after 4 minutes keeper sent off, player manager goes in goal.😆 Hednesford fan,was at the game an you wouldn't have known the lad wasn't a keeper or that 1874 were down to 10 men.terrible game an you can see why, unless as it stands hednesford do get the reprieve, that both teams are going down. Hednesford were terrible, again, and Paul Moore has done very little so far to win over the Hednesford fans.might be a trip back up to northwich next season to face the vics.massive game at home to vauxhall tomorrow night for us. What league might Hednesford be in next season?

Timothy Spall was my favourite character from AWP.,Probably the most successful of the bunch after the series finished. Saw him very recently in Wicked Little Letters Always intrigues me how Barry is boring and a bit conservative, but owns a very cool 1970 Triumph Bonneville motorcycle.

“I couldn’t give a monkeys chuff who you are.” There’s so many great moments but this one has to be my number one. What a sad loss Gary Holton was to British acting. I do wonder if there’d have been a series 3 if he’d not passed away so suddenly. Him and Richard Beckinsale were the 2 for me that could have been huge still now if they were still alive. I believe series 3 was planned with the lads working at the British Embassy in Russia. If I remember correctly this story was included in one of the later series. I think Gary Holton was lined up to be Nick Cotton in Eastenders but that never happened for obvious reasons.

Badfinger. One of the saddest stories in rock. Did some great tunes but were exploited by an awful manager. A couple of one album wonders thar disappeared / split The LAs Milltown Brothers Ride (some success but could have been bigger). Managed initially by Lewis Collins dad.

Auf weidersehen pet series 1 was filmed in 1982, so it hard to believe where the years went. It has to be said he was absolutely brilliant in it (as they all were). He got a reputation as a ‘diva’ during series 2. but His objections to the inclusion of the female characters in the series 2 Spanish sequences did dilute what the programme was about. Blink and you’ll miss it, but he’s also an extra in Get Carter. Happy birthday Oz.

Interesting comment from Schumacher just🤔 Exactly what I thought. A right royal Freudian slip that one. He sounds like a naughty school boy who’s making excuses for bad behaviour. I don’t think he’s the stout character needed for our predicament.
