Im hoping he wont be playing much more for Stoke.
Hes so awful to watch ruin any of our play with negative backwards passing.
The inevitable yellow card just makes it worse.
We have so many other players in midfield positions waiting to get a game - Sidibe, Seko, Lawal to come
I just dont see anything that Thompson does well as a central defensive midfielder

That was it. Oh and he think he went forward once when he got the ball in their half. |

Hopefully confined to the subs bench once lawal and Seko are up to speed.

He was fine? Gave away a free kick at the end but made a vital interception that stopped their wide player in his tracks following the long kick from their goalkeeper, which would have resulted in a clear run at goal potentially. He's a squad player at most but Thompson is the least of my worries right now.

Thought he did well off the ball
Given the role Burger and then Thompson were playing that's the point,to stop them coming through the middle,protect the CBs
Swansea hurt us wide first half but nothing through the middle all game so job done for Burger and then Thompson
If you want all 10 outfield players to be attackers get Keegan in

Thought he did ok. A few important tackles, 1 important foul, won the header for that dangerous ball into the box at the end to get the point. Burger was on a yellow and the ref told him he’d be off if he made another foul with 30 mins to play, was the correct decision and it paid off

Idiotic card and he needs too much time to think if you want him to do anything other than pass it back 4 yards.
He's a backup player, I'd prefer Sidibé. Or a look at Seko.

Idiotic card and he needs too much time to think if you want him to do anything other than pass it back 4 yards. He's a backup player, I'd prefer Sidibé. Or a look at Seko. Don't think Seko would do that job, more of a passer I didn't see him yet. Can he block passes and put a tackle in? If he can do that plus pass forwards then that'd be handy. |

I personally think that Thompson is not a player that will be part of any progress we are all hoping for. IMHO He was in the right place at the right time to get a 12 month contract extension.
Having said that it should be remembered that he came to us on a free from Blackpool when we were severely restricted under FFP.
His next club……League 1?

I just feel that Thompson is totally anathema to any football team that wants to play progressive football.
He shirts any responsibility of being creative and starting attacks and always plays it backwards.

He's not in the team to create anything much. He's a spoiler...a pain in the neck for the other team. We need that sometimes, quite often in fact, as some/most of our players are known to let concentration slip in the final minutes.

He gets picked because he's the only one who can offer any form of protection to the back line. Until Lawal is fit he will continue to play and is why consecutive managers select him because we have failed to find a suitable upgrade. For the record I don't mind him as a squad player, that doesn't mean I want 11 arrrd working grafters with limited footballing IQ playing for us all the time. |
