I’m certainly not going overboard with his performance today, was absolutely shocked by his “forward” passing. Still need to progressively improve and move him on next summer Think you need a trip to Specsavers. Of the 16 passes Thommo made, 13 were towards goal. And almost half of those forward passes were towards the final third. The game showcased that Thommo has always had a great eye for a pass, which of course he demonstrated by his pass to Enda that led to the cross for our goal.

If he isn’t playing first team football for us he needs to go out on loan as soon as possible and at a higher level than Lowe is at. fully agree He's unlikely to get a loan to league 1 in January where he will be a regular. Much more likely to get game time in league 2 which will be more beneficial.

He also had a far higher pass completion percentage than Burger, at roundabout 92% if I remember correctly. In a Pelach team where keeping the ball is a vital part that is an important quality.

Your first sentence reflects a sound observation that I wouldn’t argue with. Perhaps a visit to spec savers may be needed by yourself as I did state “was absolutely shocked by his “forward” passing. At 27 he’s been here 3 nearly 4 years and his progressive forward passing in 1 game has “showcased that he has always had a great eye for a pass”………whoosh!! I stick with my opinion that he is not to the standard required if we are to really progress as club. Another 1 year extension come July, possibly, as no more than he is currently, a squad player. If and when he leaves it will be with good wishes and thanks for the effort

If and when he leaves it will be with good wishes and thanks for the effort I didn't pick up on the very subtle irony in your original comment but yes... great to see him passing the ball forward more. Considering front-foot passing is something Schuey expounded, it's a shame this wasn't encouraged more from Thommo. Saying that, both Schuey and Neil deployed him as a jack-of-all-trades last season as the DM slot was taken by Burger. DM is the one position that Thommo can do reasonably well in, and maybe better if his passing can be utilized more effectively in that role. I agree there are better players than both Thommo and probably even Burger as the deep-lying playmaker in the DM double-pivot, but Thommo does a decent enough job there and as a squad player you won't find better. If he could turn in his performance from the weekend more consistently, he'd be right up there as one of the top ten in this league.

I don't get all the Thommo bashing. He's a good pro who always 'does a job' for the team, as demonstrated on Saturday. His main weakness is his seeming desire to collect more yellow cards than Pearson...at his current rate that won't take too long.

It’s quite obvious that this manager is introducing him to a bit of a different approach, especially with thinking more creatively and progressively. A big issue with him had always been his preference to play safe meaning it’s added to our lack of creativity or momentum in attacking play. He’s always had an eye for a good ball and the skills to implement it. It needs to be practiced and developed though as well as encouraged.

Christ, I’d have a passing percentage of 92% if I only chose to pass to the fucker stood 5 yards behind me.

Tommo is decent enough from what I see. He does have a bad habit at getting sent off

Can we please put this one to bed now?
Thompson isn’t good enough to play ahead of anyone let alone burger.
He’s absolutely fucking useless

The invisible man in midfield today. Never heard his name mentioned until the booking.
Awful.

He literally jogs around in a circle and then when we have the ball he stands amongst their midfield calling for the ball. Dog shit.

Left his customary yellow card unusually late. I thought he wasn’t even going to make it at one point.

It’s short sighted to blame Thompson for that performance, he was being totally overrun and that’s on the tactics. I don’t think he’s very good but it would have been the same with Burger. We’re not good enough to play with two midfielders, one of which is a playmaker and two wide players that can’t work back.

Some of you lot watch different games to me.
The poor lad had to do the work of 2 in there tonight, got on the ball more than anyone and was left completely exposed by the traffic cone from Brighton.

Harsh on Moran but agree on the rest. It’s naive to think those two can control a midfield on their own

He’s absolutely fucking useless I can't believe it's needed almost 150 games for us to come to this conclusion. For a DM, his positional sense is poor, he tackles like Paul Scholes, his range of passing is average-to-poor at best... I honestly don't know what he offers.

Just have to look at his pre Stoke career stats. He’d be lucky to be playing for Hanley Town and that’s why we are where we are
